Stacking the Shelves #7 – Another Great Mail Week

September 29, 2013 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Weekly Memes

I had another great mail week with a combination of review copies and books I bought. This meme is hosted by Tynga’sΒ Reviews to show off our book hauls every week. Here’s what I’m adding to my shelves this week…

Review copies

Forever Too Far by Abba Glines – I haven’t read the rest of this series yet but have read good reviews for different ones in the series. Simon and Schuster Australia sent me this copy, along with Dangerous Girls and Severed Heads, Broken Hearts πŸ™‚ Thank you!

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas – Ever since I read a review this on What Danielle Did Next, I’ve wanted to pick this up. I’ve heard its up the alley of Gone Girl which I also haven’t read yet and picked up this week too.

Severed Heads, Broken Hearts by Robyn Schneider – They changed the name of this to The Beginning of Everything which is also the same book. Not sure why because I love the cover and title of this one! I’m glad I got this contemporary as I’ve only heard good things.

The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White – I loved Kiersten White’s Paranormalcy series and Egypt, so I was attracted to this one immediately. I’ve heard early reviews aren’t really glowing at the moment so will have to see what it’s like myself.

The Elites by Natasha Ngan – Fantasy YA seems to be really successful at the moment and I’ve heard this one offers a great world and many twists and turns. Can’t wait to pick this one up. Thanks to Five Mile Press/Hot Key Books for sending me this copy, along with The Rig.

The Rig by Joe Ducie – I am reading this at the moment for a blog tour next week and at the moment it’s quite unique and captivating. It’s kind of like Prison Break (which I loved) but in a juvenile prison in an oil rig. It’s going to be interesting seeing how it all pans out, stay tuned for my review next Sunday!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – How can I not pick this up after everyone’s glowing reviews for this one and Siege and Storm? No doubt this will be awesome.

Wake by Amanda Hocking – Picked this up on clearance for $4. I can’t resist clearance books.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – Everywhere I go this one is on the bestseller list. It’s about time I picked it up and find out what all the raves are about.

By the way, my internet went down after a terrifying thunder storm here so I’ll probably be a bit slower at replying than usual. Hopefully the internet gets fixed soon!
Don’t know what I would be doing now without my trusty Nexus 7.

What did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. Whew! A lot of these books are really new to me except for Shadow and Bone. I just finished reading it and to be honest, it didn't work out for me. It was okay but I expected more since everyone was fangirling about it. But please don't let my opinion deter you from enjoying the book like everyone had.

Thanks for stopping by Thoughts and Pens, Jeann!

  2. Oooh awesome haul! Shadow and Bone is awesome and I'm not even a fantasy fan at all. I also loved Gone Girl that story was incredibly frustrating and so compelling! Very weird opinion, i know, but you'll get it once you finish it πŸ˜‰ I've heard amazing things about Dangerous Girls too! Great haul, Jeann! πŸ™‚

  3. I wasn't a big fan of Chaos of Stars, but since you liked White's other series, you may actually enjoy this one. Don't go into it thinking it's focused on mythology though. It's more of a contemporary. And I've heard so many good things about Severed Heads, Broken Hearts (and I agree, I like that title much better than The Beginning of Everything)

  5. Oooh, great haul!

You should give The Chaos of Stars a try, I really liked it despite the not so glowing reviews! I still think people go into the book expecting something different than what it is.

Happy reading, Jeann & I hope the internet gets fixed super soon!

    • Thanks Pili, I did a lot of reading on the weekend while it was down…although it took me nearly the whole day to do this blog post on my tablet o.O anyways, will definitely adjust my expectations of The Chaos of the Stars now!

  6. DANGEROUS GIRLS!!!! *runs around screaming* Such a mind f*ck! can't wait for your thoughts. Dying to read Severed Heads, it's supposed to be fab! Dying to read all the rest of them! Such a freaking amazing haul!! Enjoy

  7. I also got the 'Severed Heads, Broken Hearts' copy! Not sure why they changed it either, but I'm glad I got the copy I did, because I like it a lot more πŸ™‚ The actual book is really awesome to btw – just finished it recently and LOVED it. The main character, Ezra, was fantastic. If you like John Green books, you should love Severed Heads (as the style of writing is quite similar)
