Stacking the Shelves #9 – The Week I Discovered Edelweiss…

October 19, 2013 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Weekly Memes

So after Looking for Panacea talked about their massive Edelweiss e-ARC last week, I decided to check it out and was like a kid in a candy store! I may have gone overboard but I am so impressed with the number of titles on there, especially when compared to Netgalley. Here’s my haul this week, which consists of the following physical books:

Review copies – physical books

I’m really lucky to get physical review books and book mail is something I look forward to every week. I love the cover to Waterfell and I’m really excited about Last Girl and Crown of Midnight! Thank you to Scholastic Press, Allen & Unwin, Harlequin Australia, Bloomsbury Australia for sending me these review copies.

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas – All of the blogosphere has been raving about it and I finally gave in. I haven’t read Throne of Glass yet but this means I’ll be able to read them both back to back!

Waterfell by Amalie Howard – The cover really attracted me to this on Netgalley, plus I need to buy into the whole ocean/mermaid theme of things.

Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa – I’ve mentioned before that I haven’t read the Iron Fey series yet, but I recently purchased The Lost Prince which I will be reading soon too, before this one.

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater – I loved the author’s Wolves of Mercy Falls series with the beautiful, poetic writing and this is a series I’ve been looking out for! Just ordered The Raven Boys on Bookdepository too, so you’ll see that in a future STS.

The Last Girl by Michael Adams – This one is a dystopian that I’m really keen to read! Check out the awesome trailer to the book!

The Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher – This book sounds really dark and thrilling, you know how much I love those sorts of books.

Review copies – eBooks

Thank you to HarperCollins, Sherry Soule, J Washburn, Spencer Hill Press, Dutton, Egmont USA and Penguin Press for the e-ARCs!

Most of the books above are from HarperCollins on Edelweiss, they are incredibly generous with their eARCs! I literally jumped for joy when I saw they had accepted my requests. I am doing a blog tour of Beautifully Broken by Sherry Soule after loving her Immortal Eclipse eBook. I also received Fireblood from Netgalley which I haven’t neglected.

  1. I know, I think I'm overloaded though haha. I loved Iron Traitor, and I'm really glad I got warned about the cliffhanger. I've heard negative reviews about Waterfell too. Thanks Steph!

  2. You got a ton of great looking books. I got some from Harper Collins of Edelweiss to – in fact when I looked at the Harper Collins books and Egmont, I could download any I want. If you haven't looked already, check it out, you may be the same. It was weird, because NetGalley lets you know if you've been pre-approved by a publisher, but I didn't hear anything at all from Edelweiss.

  3. *throws confetti at Jeann* Aside from the confetti, I am also giving you a round of applause. I just love Harper Collins. After I discovered that I got whitelisted for their YA titles, I had a hard time processing the thought because I am still a new blogger.

I also have the same haul as you two weeks ago. Good lord, how are you going to conquer your TBR pile, Jeann? I could use some tips right now. I love a lot of the HC titles but I stopped myself from downloading all of them because I am swamped. Bwahahaha.

Hey, The Crane Wife is really arousing my interest because it's Patrick Ness. I think I'm gonna go to EW and request it.

Congratz to the physical books BTW. I wish I could also convince publishers to send me some. <3

    • Oh wow, congrats for being auto approved for their YA titles, that is amazing! I don't know to be honest, I'm blasting through them at the moment but I'm set for good books hey. I think the Aussie book blogger market is a lot smaller than the US or UK ones so I'm lucky. I hope you get accepted for the Crane Wife!

  4. WOW – that is one amazing haul!

I hope you enjoy Throne of Glass/Crown of Midnight and The Raven Boys/The Dream Thieves – I like both of these series, and I felt that the sequels were just as good as the original (which is rare).

    Enjoy 🙂

  5. Oh wow that's a lot of awesome books you got 🙂 Hmm for The Dream Thieves I didn't really like it b/c it was very confusing, but I know lot of people loved it. I also got some books from Harper Collins but I forgot them to include in my haul.

  6. I find requesting books really easy on Netgalley but have struggled with Edelweiss, not sure why! When I requested my first book I was quickly accepted but when I went to download it I couldn't find it at all, probably me being stupid!

Some really great and impressive books this week and so many that I want to read myself: The Killing Woods, Waterfell and Panic to name just a few.

Enjoy all your reads. My STS

    • I know, Edelweiss asks you for a reason every single time you request. I guess you need to think about it more. I've had trouble finding download links too, I had to google how to do it. Thanks for commenting.

  7. holy guacamole batman! That's alot of books! I won't deny.. i'm jealous haha. But in a … i'm happy for you way! If you don't like waterfell ( i've heard some mixed reviews ) don't give up on mermaids! I am a huge fan and would have plenty of recs for you 😉 I haven't heard of the last girl! But it's dystopian … so now I have to go check it out! I got sea of shadows and white space too! I rarely request from edelwiess… cause I have a fear of rejection lol. SO YAY! haha. gosh you have a great haul 😀 Happy reading!

    • I know, I hope I get through most of them in the near future lol. You have to let me know what good mermaid books you've enjoyed? I'm posting my review up for Of Poseidon, I'm scared now lol. Thank you Michelle for commenting!

  8. I am so jealous of Iron Traitor and Waterfell. I read Waterfell from NG and I loved it. I have Iron traitor on there, so I will get to it at least! Great haul!

  9. Oh my goodness! I'm so SO jealous of your haul on Edelweiss! I still haven't got any proper approval from there, all have been rejections!

Congrats on the awesome haul, Jeann! Happy reading!

  10. OHMYGOD THE DREAM THIEVES. I really need this book! Like now, right now. And I have so many books by Julie Kagawa but haven't started any of them yet. Everything just keeps getting in my way! Ugh I own a physical copy of The Crane Wife but I want to read the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness first. Hope you will like it! So many great books you got there 😀

    • Oooh I didn't even know copies of Crane Wife were out yet! I want to read the Chaos Walking though, but I have More Than This to read by Patrick Ness first. You must read The Immortal Rules series by Julie Kagawa.

  11. i'm a HUGE fan of Edelweiss too. i actually like it better than netgalley now ever since netgalley has that feedback approval ration because my percentage sucks. you got a lot of great books this week! happy reading 🙂

hope you can stop by my StS/Sunday Post.

  12. Wow so many books! So jealous you get to read Into the Dark. I'm looking forward to that one =D Can't wait to hear what you think of it! I've heard really positive things about Killing Woods and The Dream Thieves. Beware of the Iron Traitor book. Sam@Realm of Fiction said it had a bad cliffhanger. Not sure about Waterfell. It's receive quite a few negative reviews. Hope you have a chance to read all of these =)

  13. Woah! That is one impressive book haul, Jeann!

I already read Waterfell and it was rather disappointing. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Yay for all those Harper Teen books! They have some impressive books on EW and I couldn't help myself either.

    Enjoy, Jeann!

    • Thank you Nick, I had a rather amazing bookish week! So sad to hear about Waterfell. I've read a few scary reviews which sort of puts it at the back of my review pile. Thanks Nick!

  14. I need to check out all these awesome publishers! They're all nice yeah? Some publicists kind of scare me haha. Hope you enjoy all your newest books! I'm trying to stay away from going onto Edelweiss too much since I know I'd just go crazy but I hope you have more fun with it in the future. 😀
