Stacking the Shelves #13 – More TBD Buys & Champion arrives

November 16, 2013 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Weekly Memes

Remember that amazing TBD sale I was talking about a few weeks back? The books I got last week weren’t the only books I bought, the rest of my books came in this week. All the books I received this week are below, which are a combination of review and purchased copies.

I got Mark of Athena, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Dust by Hugh Howey. I LOVED the WOOL trilogy and haven’t read Shift yet, but Dust came out pretty quickly so thought I’d pick it up to complete the collection. And how pretty is that Fangirl hardcover? It’s a hardback and the perfect size and that aqua colour is even better in person.

Thank you to Harlequin Australia, Penguin Australia and Pan Macmillan for sending me these books to review!

Got a great review pile in the mail too, too bad I didn’t know I was getting This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales otherwise I wouldn’t have already bought it from TBD. I’ll have to add this one to a giveaway some time. I couldn’t wait and already finished reading Pawn by Aimee Carter which I loved and will be reviewing in a few days, and then picking up Champion by Marie Lu tomorrow! I’ve heard the conclusion to this one is awesome and way better than Allegiant, so I’m really looking forward to it. You can’t see in the photo but the book is silver foil. It’s so freaking pretty.

Heard mixed reviews about The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, but I’m keen for something a bit different and to find out about the profiling, and Crash Into You by Katie McGarry will be read when I pick up the other 2 in the trilogy (which are on my shelf).

Thank you to Netgalley and the associated publishers and YA Bound Book Tours for these ARCs.

Bookish News

New Divergent trailer – You all know how much I despised Allegiant, but luckily it hasn’t wiped out my excitement for the movie at all. The new trailer has some new scenes with even more Tris & Four action and it is HOT! I will just pretend Allegiant never happened and go watch the movie without Four whining in my head.

10 Things to Look Forward to in Catching Fire – I wrote another guest post on ibrary about the things I’m looking forward to in the Catching Fire movie! I can’t wait for it and it’s not long to go now! Check out my post here.

How do I get free physical books? I’ve gotten this question a lot since my STS posts, and to be honest, it kind of annoys me. The books are not free, they are sent to me from publishers after requesting them in exchange for reading and reviewing them on my blog. Book blogging is a lot of work, and the reasoning behind starting a book blog is not to get free books. It’s to share your honest opinions with like minded people, and I hope people understand that. If you are a book blogger wondering how to request review copies from publishers, Melanie at YA Midnight Reads wrote a great post about ARCs here

What did you add to your shelves today?

  1. Oh my goodness, you got such great books!

I LOVED This Song Will Save Your Life and Pawn. Crash Into You is pretty good too.

I've heard great things on both Fangirl and Champion – I hope you'll enjoy them both!

Happy reading & thanks for stopping by my STS & sorry for taking so long to reply back!

    • Great to hear Stephanie, I'm reading it at the moment and honestly a bit bored but I'm expecting a majorly awesome ending to round out all the positive reviews. Yay someone else who loved WOOL!

  2. Ahh, you always have the best hauls every week! I just got approved for Pawn so I'm super SUPER excited to get stuck into that after my exams. I can't wait to read your review on it – but might wait till I finish it so we can discuss 😛

Yayayay Divergent and Catching Fire! I'm so keen for CF, but I won't be able to see it till the weekend. Can't wait!!

  3. What a great assortment of books. I've read The Naturals, Crash Into You, This Song Will Save Your Life, and Pawn. Pawn was my least favorite because I thought it was the least original. I am looking forward to the Divergent movie too. Maybe I will actually get a chance to read my copies of Insurgent and Allegiant before it comes out.

Come see what I got at Inside of a Dog and Ms. Martin Teaches Media if you get a chance. Happy reading!

  4. Glad I wasn't the only one who hated Allegiant, still very excited for the film though, hopefully if they make it to the last movie they will make some changes! I am so excited to read Champion, glad to hear it has a more satisfying conclusion than Allegiant did! I hope you enjoy all your reads! My STS.

  5. Great haul of books! I really need to start Pawn soon, looking forward to seeing what you thought of it. I loved Wool but I still haven't picked up a copy of Shift or Dust, will have to splurge a bit and buy them along with Champion and Fangirl which is the only Rainbow Rowell book I haven't read.

Enjoy all of your new books and happy reading 🙂

  7. Awesome haul Jeann. You've been a happy little TBD shopper, have you tried Booktopia? It's Aussie based and you can find free shipping codes online as well. Can't wait to see what you think of Champion, I'm reading it next month. Fingers crossed that it isn't a let down.

    • I have checked out Booktopia but the things I saw were mostly cheaper on TBD, so I haven't visited it much. Can't wait for Champion!!! I am super excited about it. And luckily, I have heard good things too.

  8. So jealous. Pawn, Naturals, and Fangirls are some of my most anticipated reads of the year and I can not wait to read them. Enjoy!

  9. Yeah I requested it a few months ago to make sure I got in lol. Soo excited about it, picking it up right after the book I'm reading. Maybe you'll get a copy! Thank you Laura 🙂 There's a lot I haven't read yet.

  10. Ooooh, nice haul!

I'm reading Pawn right now (32%) and I'm quite liking it so far. It might just be me, but didn't the mentions of the Hart family make you think of the Queen of Hearts and Alice in Wonderland?

Now that Champion is out I need to get me the three books and binge read them all, back to back!

    Happy reading!

    • It's amazing Pili, I think I would rate it a 4.5. Totally worth all the hype at the moment! Oh wow, I didn't actually think of that but now that you mention it, it does. YES that would be awesome for the Legend series! You too, Pili.

    • I'm really happy seeing the Heroes of Olympus series on my shelf now! Plus my nephew would appreciate it too hehe. Yeah, thanks for that helpful post hun, I'll be referring anyone else who asks to that one too.

  11. I've seen Fangirl on our local bookstore, but I've opted to buy it for later. I haven't started reading Wool, but I will because you guys seem to love it.

The Divergent movie is something to be excited about! I didn't even realize until later that Caleb and Tris' characters are both on the TFIOS movie!

  12. Ooooohhhhh you got Champion!! Omg so lucky! I requested it but they probably ran out. That's okay though, I'll get it soon! I've been putting back because I've got so many arcs to read! I really hope you like it though. I can't wait to see what you think of it! Hope you enjoy all the other books you have and havent read yet too!

  13. I've read Pawn! It was really good. 🙂 Definitely looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of This Song Will Save Your Life and Fangirl. Must. read. them… ! 🙂 And ohmygosh…that trailer. My sister and I are still fangirling over it (which includes random shrieks and throwing sticky tape at each other).
