Stacking the Shelves #18 – Kindle Paperwhite

February 1, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

Despite popular opinion, I do have fairly quiet STS weeks and this one was one of them. I got some totally gorgeous books though so I’ll share it with you guys.

Review copies – physical

Thank you to Murdoch Books and Walker Books for sending me these review copies.

I quite enjoyed flicking through 1001 Video Games you must play before you die because of all the retro games that are in there – it follows the gaming era from the 1970’s to now. It brought back a lot of memories of my childhood and old pixelated games hehe.

Nymph (The Love Oracles #1) and The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender look absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to pick them up.

Bookish Birthday Presents

I got this for my birthday from the boyfriend (I requested it) and I’m super happy to receive it! I was using the Kindle 4 and it always took a while to type out anything or highlight parts of the text. I love the fact that this is touch screen, readable in the dark and the 8 week battery life! No doubt I’ll be enjoying lots of eBooks with the Kindle Paperwhite.

The lovely Kelly from Diva Book Nerd sent me an Amazon Gift Card for my birthday! Thank you so much hun, I’ll definitely put it to good use.

Kurt Hugo Schneider tweeted me on my birthday! He’s one of my favourite Youtube musicians that I’ve followed and this was a pleasant surprise.

Bookish News

The Fault in Our Stars Trailer – is officially out! The FEELS from watching the trailer, I just know I’m going to cry during the movie! Shailene Woodley is perfect as Hazel Grace I think.

Jodi Meadows Q&A -Feb 10-13th – The Author of the Newsoul Series will be visiting the David Estes Goodreads Group on Feb 10-13th. Check it out here!

Rysa Walker Q&A – Feb 17-20th – I’m really excited about this one because I’ve heard so many good things about Timebound, come and ask Rysa Walker a question here!

International Book Giving Day – It is the month of love and we love books! Allen & Unwin will be hosting an International Book Giving Day on Valentines Day, so Happy Indulgence will have an international giveaway on Feb 14th. I’ll also be donating some books back to the Lifeline Bookfest. Click here to participate!

  1. 1001 video game before you die!! WHAT! I NEED THIS BOOK. I am a huge gamer (I always post reviews) and just want to play great games. I am going to look around for this book. Looks like it's an ARC so it's probably not out yet. Happy Birthday!!!!

  2. Woot woot! Happy birthday, Charlotte! Hope you had a fabulous day. 🙂 The Kindle Paperwhite looks super awesome. I really hate my Nook (I have the oldest one) and when it officially dies (it died one day but came back to life lol) I'll be totally getting either a Kobo or a Kindle. I just watched TFIOS trailer like 2 days ago (?) and omg I seriously adore it! I heard they did a lot of changes though?

  3. That Kindle is gorgeous and I want one, I definitely need to upgrade to a new one soon! TFIOS trailer is amazing and I can tell I will be a sobbing wreck at the cinema. I hope you enjoy all of your books 🙂 My STS.

  4. I got a Kindle Paperwhite about a month ago and love it! My last kindle was the keyboard version and I stopped using it because there was no backlight. Paper white is perfect and it doesn't hurt my eyes not like when I'm reading of NY iPad.

Have fun with your ebooks Jeann and happy birthday!

    • Ah yes, I had the Kindle 4 and would have liked a keyboard or touch screen. Glad to hear that it's perfect for you, I have a tablet as well but this one will be solely for reading.

  5. Yay for the new kindle! I love my Paperwhite, so I hope you enjoy yours too! I'm really curious to see what games are in the 1001 book, I'll have to see if I can find a copy. I love the cover with the gold feather, so pretty.

  6. WOW! Awesome birthday pressie. How are you enjoying the new Kindle? I had an old Kindle 4 too, but I missed it when I upgraded to the Fire HD. Can you add folders and organise your books on the Paperwhite like you could on the 4? Hubby would love the 1001 games edition, being the massive gamer that he is. Although since we bought GTA5, I've been getting back into it myself too. Nice haul Jeann.

    • I just charged it and put some books on it but yes I love how easy to use and everything it is! Yup, you can definitely add folders, it's so much easier to with the touch screen to. Thanks Kelly, I recommend the book for gamers, it's gaming gold!

  7. Thank you Aimee! I know, he does really well hehe. I really do recommend an eReader, I love my physical books but it's handy carrying a huge library of books everywhere you go.

  8. I think Shailene Woodley will be pretty great looking at that trailer! I just have no idea how she ended up in Faults and Divergent… what are obviously going to be 2 of the hottest book related teen movies of the year. I guess she must like to read. 🙂 Anyway, yey!

  9. Belated happy birthday Jeann! Aww, you're boyfriend's such a sweetheart. My dad's been offering to buy me an eReader for a while, but I'm trying to save up for more physical books. Anyway, I can still read on my phone. 🙂 Great haul this week — so jealous!

  10. Ooh The Strange and Beautiful Life of Ava Lavender looks so cool and I love that cover! Oh my gosh, I'm so excited for The Fault in Our Stars movie, too! I love Shailene Woodley as Hazel, it's perfect.

    • Thanks Cait, so excited! I know, I am always giddy when I get tweets from authors and stuff, never thought I would get one from Kurt! Glad you got those 2 books too, we can compare and see what each other thought.

  11. Yay for the new Kindle! I upgraded from a Kindle 4 to a Kindle Fire last year, and it was the best decision. I love being able to highlight things easily now, and making notes is so much faster. Plus, I don't have to get out of bed to turn the light off when I'm done reading! Or on, if I suddenly get the urge when I'm curled up in bed.

  12. Yay for the tweet! I'm always so excited when a favorite of mine tweets me, especially authors. Youtube has some sick talent with musicians. Btw, KINDLE!!!!! I got mine last spring and it's the best thing ever 🙂 I love it to pieces. I have one thing though–sometimes it stalls, like you can't do anything for about a minute and it's like the scariest thing ever, because you're thinking you broke it, but it actually starts an update and does a restart, so if it happens, don't worry 😀 Congrats again, Jeann! 🙂

    • I know, it's the best thing when authors tweet you! I love my Kindle 4 but I can definitely use the updated features in Kindle Fire. All of the books I've loaded up are on my old Kindle so I'll probably pull it out every now and then. Thanks for the tip Siiri, I'll keep that in mind so I don't freak out.
