stackingshelves

This week’s Stacking the Shelves features CRESS my most highly anticipated book of 2014! Early reviews have said that it is awesome so I can’t wait to delve into it as soon as I finish my current read.

Bought/Won

STS bought 8 Feb

Won: Red Rising by Pierce Brown – I have read fantastic reviews about this one and was so excited to win a competition by Hachette Australia on Twitter! I need a good dystopian (and this one is an adult one as well) that has really good world building and I’ve heard this one is it.

Bought: Cress by Marissa Meyer – I was dying to read this for the whole week, waiting for a review copy until the publisher said they didn’t actually offer review copies for Cress. I picked it up straight away afterwards, lucky I had a $5 voucher for the bookstore! CANNOT wait to read it!

Review copies – physical

STS_8 Feb

Thank you to Penguin Australia & Scholastic Australia for sending me these review copies.

Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine – I LOVE anything that this author writes and it’s even more awesome that I’ve met her in person. I haven’t heard much about Prince of Shadows but it’s a completely different take on what she’s done before (paranormal stuff) so I’m keen to see what this Romeo & Juliet retelling is!

Marie Antoinette Serial Killer by Katie Alender – This one was a pleasant surprise in the mail and I have read reviews on it that show that I will enjoy this book 🙂

Eleven by James Phelan – I’ve got the previous 2 books on the shelf so was pleased to see the next release join them on the collection. I plan to marathon these books in a row as they are quite thin, will be a quick read.

Review copies – digital

Yes I broke my new years resolution to not request any new books but hey, at least it’s not that many right?

Bookish News

Lissa Price Q&A – The author of YA dystopian Starters and Enders is now answering YOUR questions on David Estes’s Goodreads Group! There is also a signed US giveaway. Check it out here.

Vampire Academy Movie is Out – I’m so jealous of all you US dwellers who get to see Vampire Academy…what’s the verdict? I’ve heard good things and bad things, is it a disappointment? Is it good? Let me know!

Vampire Academy Sydney Premiere is on 20 Feb – And both Lucy Fry and Zoey Deutch will be there! The Hot Hits is giving away tickets to the premiere for a lucky winner here.

  1. CRESS! I can't wait for my copy to arrive 😀 I've pre-ordered it but sadly it isn't here yet… Your copy looks gorgeous and I can't wait until I can hold that beauty in my hands!

Also YAY for On the Fence! I recently read it and it's so cute 🙂 Happy reading, Jeann!

Awesome haul. I can't wait to read Cress and Red Rising. I went and saw the Vampire Academy movie yesterday. I thought that it was pretty good. In my opinion, it definitely wasn't as good as the book, but most movies aren't. There are a couple very noticeable changes, but they didn't ruin it for me. I think you'll enjoy it for what it is.

  3. Ah HA, Scholastic! I see what you're doing there. 😉 I have Marie Antoinette and Eleven too. I LOVE the cover of Marie Antoinette…it's so up my alley (but I've had a few friends tell me it's pretty lame, sooo I'm worried!). I've been doing a quick James Phelan marathon too. My library had the first two, phew. So far…oops, >_< I'm not really liking them. CRESS IS AMAZING. AND OH MY GOSH. RED RISING!! *fangirls endlessly* I really really really hope you like it! I utterly adore that book. CANNOT WAIT for your review!!! XD

    • Lol I know right, I'm glad we all got the same though so we can compare each other's thoughts. Oh no, not keen on what your friends said about it! Glad to hear the library had the first 2, I bought the 1st one on sale and got the 2nd for review as well. OMG glad to hear you love both Cress and Red Rising! I'm soo excited!

  4. YES!!! This week is Cress' week! I also got it and I've already read and loved it! Now I need to find a way to write a spoiler-free review!!

I also got Grim a while back and it's pretty awesome, also another pending review! I think I need to ban myself from reading any more till I'm caught up writing reviews again!

    Happy reading, Jeann!

  5. YAY! I'm the first comment.

I'm really looking forward to you starting Prince of Shadows. I'm interested to see how she tackles a retelling of what is supposed to be the greatest love story every told (besides your own of course). I'm in two minds whether to invest in a copy or not, so I'll wait to see what you think of it. Nice haul Jeann.
