Stacking the Shelves #20 – Love for Books

stackingshelves

This week’s STS post is pretty underwhelming, but I was surprised with some books this week which is good! I’ve been staying away from the book stores and making more of a commitment to read what’s on my shelf than venturing into uncharted waters, so here we are.

Review copies – physical

Thank you to Penguin Australia, Pan Macmillan and Five Mile Press for sending me these review books!

VA Movie Companion – I was super excited to get the VA Movie Companion in the mail, I am dying for the movie to come out and hoping it’d be a good one. Flicking through the movie guide, it looks like lots of thought went into putting it together instead of just a lot of pretty pictures. Will report back when I read it!

Ophelia and the Marvellous Boy – I am taking part in the blog tour for this charming middle grade book, it was a quick read that reminded me of Coraline and Narnia. My post will be going up next Sunday with an Aussie only giveaway!

The Cracks in the Kingdom – I haven’t heard of this series before but reading the synopsis I love the blend between modern day life and fantasy. This is the 2nd in the series so I’ll have to track down the first before I read it, but it sounds really interesting!

Review copies – digital / Purchased

Sweet Reckoning – I really enjoyed Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins as a twist on the angels/demons genre and jumped at the chance at downloading the final in the series on Edelweiss. I haven’t read Sweet Peril yet though, but plan to sometime.

Backward compatible – I’m a geek and I love things filled with pop culture references and after reading some early reviews on this, it sounds awesome! I bought the eBook for 99c on Amazon.

The Archived – This book is on sale at Amazon for 99c at the moment, get it while the sale’s still on here. Sounds like an awesome YA creepy read, I’ve heard some interesting reviews about it 🙂

Bookish News

I reviewed the Wolf Among Us game – For those of you who don’t know, I’m a massive gamer and Telltale Games are one of my favourite developers. I rated Wolf Among Us, based on the Fables comic 9/10 so it’s worth checking out if you love character driven stories. Check out my review on MMGN here.

David Estes is offering signed paperbacks to US/Can residents – If you loved the look of them in my STS here, now’s your chance to get your own signed copies! David writes a wonderful personalised message in each one and a video of him signing your book. To purchase, email davidestesbooks@gmail.com for your copies.

Young-Adult Books: U.S.- $15 per book Canada- $22 per book,
Children’s Books: U.S.- $10 per book Canada- $15 per book

Rysa Walker Q&A starts on Feb 17th – I recently featured Timebound by Rysa Walker as one of my WoW posts and I’m pleased to say that she’ll be visiting David’s group on Goodreads and answering your questions between Feb 17-20. Chat to Rysa here!

The Bone Season 2 will be released October 1 – I absolutely loved the first book and we are currently counting down on Twitter until the title is released! Follow @TheBoneSeason to get the news.

What did you add to your shelves this week?

    • I know, I was super impressed with it, can't believe it surpassed TWD for me which was my favourite game of 2013! I can't wait either, especially after how short ep 2 seemed. Thank you!

  1. OMG! Thank you SO much for mentioning The Archived here! It's been on my wishlist forever and now I can finally read it! I got Sweet Reckoning too, and just like you haven't read Sweet Peril. I haven't watched the Vampire Academy movie yet, but I really want to (even if I've been told it's not like the book. Movies are NEVER like the books…except Cathing Fire). Great haul this week! Enjoy your books!

    • No problems, glad to share! I found it on another blog too and was so pleased to see the sale was still on. I hope Sweet Peril is good! Yes Catching Fire was so amazing but then again, they had a huge budget. Thanks, have a good reading week!

  2. I am jealous you have the Cracks in the Kingdom, I absolutely loved the first book A Corner Of White. I gave it 5 stars. I love stories with other worlds in them. I hope you can get a copy and enjoy it too 🙂

  3. I picked up The Archived too! Hoping it's a good one, awesome price! I bought Sweet Evil at Christmas, I can't wait to start that series so I've been debating whether to click for SR on Edelweiss! I love those movie companions, so very jealous you got a VA one! Hope the movie is good!!! Enjoy your haul love and have a good week!

    • I know, glad to hear you bought Sweet Evil I hope you enjoy it! Some people found the heroine annoying (and she was) but the chemistry was so hot! Thanks Dani, I hope it's good too. Have a good one!

    • Yay, great to hear you took advantage of his sale! I love my books, I look at them every once in awhile, they are right at the front middle of my bookshelf. Let me know what you think of VA!

  4. Ah, Sweet Reckoning! I am so excited to that one! I have heard great things about the Archived, so I might go and purchase it 😉

    Have a good week!

  5. Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed Ophelia 🙂 Lauren from Love is Not a Triangle loved it as well and while I'm not a MG fan, I really want to read it. I don't get it.. The Archived must not be available here, because there's not even an option for me to purchase a kindle book >.< I HATE THIS. Arrrgghhh. Anyhow, I need to read Sweet Peril as well. I've been holding out since Sweet Reckoning was so far away, but next month I'll most definitely get on it. I love me some Kaidan and Anna 🙂 Btw, I just read TBS. For me there was too much infodump and not much action, but I still managed to enjoy it enough to pick up book two. Now that the world building is out of the way (mostly), I hope we'll have more action and character-building. Thanks for the release date news 😉 Happy reading, sweets!

    • Glad to hear there is much love for Ophelia, I enjoyed it even though I rated it 3 stars. I loved the setting though. Wow, that sucks that you can't purchase The Archived yet! I hate region restrictions like that. Kaidan and Anna were really entertaining in the first one, there was so much chemistry! Thanks for visiting Siiri 🙂

  6. Great haul… but of course I am too a gamer and have played the Wolf Among Us so I am off to check out that post. I didn't think the 2nd chapter was as good as the first but still really enjoyed it. Love TaleTell (TellTale??) games!!

  7. Ophelia is really really good. 🙂 I'm rapidly becoming a huge fan of Karen Foxlee (The Midnight Dress was mind-blowing). And I got The Cracks in the Kingdom too! I'd never even heard of it before! (Oops?) I asked Macmillan if I could have the first and they were quite happy to give it to me as well…*shrugs* It's good because it seems a bit of a scarce book.

  8. You got some great books going on here (: I'm quite curious to see how Sweet Reckoning is, as I've read the other books in the series. Backward Compatible also looks super cute, I just love those fun geeky romances. Can't wait to hear what you think of these books!

  9. Ooo, The Archived! I have that one, but I have not read it. And ooo, Sweet Reckoning! I saw that they uploaded Sweet Reckoning! I haven't read Sweet Evil or Sweet Peril, otherwise I would have downloaded Sweet Reckoning. I hope you love your new reads!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  10. Isn't it amazing that Sweet Reckoning is on Edelweiss?! I loved the previous two books and wasn't expecting to get a copy of it until April, so I jumped at the chance to download it too. 🙂 I hope Backward Compatible goes well for you. It's such a funny read!

  11. ooh, can't wait for the Ophelia tour and giveaway, that cover is adorable! I was sent Cracks in the Kingdom this week too, but haven't read the first one either. The eBook is $10.00, bit pricey though. I'll put mine on the backburner for now. Been dying for Sweet Reckoning, have read both books one and two and the extra points of view as well. Haven't heard back from Edelweiss yet, so I'm assuming they knocked me back.

You're lucky I don't live closer, I'd be so nabbing that ereader and running until I finished it.

    • Haha I wish we could share Kelly, that would be cool! Yeah, I'm thinking about requesting the first from the publisher but then again, I have so many books to read as it is. Hope you do hear back from Edelweiss soon!
