Stacking the Shelves #21 – Assassin’s Blade!

March 2, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Haul, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

I’m slowly trying to get through my review pile but was so excited to receive the following books this week!

Review copies – physical

Thank you to Penguin Australia, Scholastic and Bloomsbury for sending me these review books!

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas – I’ve been waiting patiently for this omnibus of the Throne of Glass novellas to come out! How awesome is the cover #fangirls I’m ready to meet you Sam! I wonder if I will ship him as much as Chaol x Celaena?

Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott – The Hunger Games meets…Pokemon? This book really intrigues me after numerous awesome reviews on it, especially The Passionate Bookworm’s review. I can’t wait to read it!

Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide – I keep on getting awesome VA books from Penguin, I think they’ve caught on that I’m a massive fan. This one looks pretty interesting ramping up to the movie.

Secret (Elemental #4) by Brigid Kemmerer – I haven’t read any of the Elemental series yet but Mel from YA Midnight Reads said I should get onto it! Thank you to Gina from Behind a Million and One Pages for your giveaway 🙂 Aussie bloggers need to stick together!

Children of Liberty by Paullina Simons (The Bronze Horseman #0.5) – Prior to my YA and Paranormal/Urban Fantasy days, I picked up The Bronze Horseman and it absolutely blew me away. It is still one of my favourite love stories in historical romance, and I was absolutely chuffed to find the prequel on sale for $1.99 on Amazon. I haven’t heard good things but oh well, its The Bronze Horseman!

What did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. Great review! I am loving the cover and the synopsis of Fire and Blood so when my TBR list is empty (and heavens knows when that'll happen) this is going on!

  2. Ooo, Jeann–definitely read the previous Elementals books before you read SECRET, or else you'll get spoiled on some things! You don't have to read the novellas, though. But you will probably want to if you enjoy the series.

ASSASSIN'S BLADE, huh? I still haven't read the previous two books yet, but this reminds me I should see if I can get my co-blogger Kim a copy of this one. She's a huge fan, too.

    • I'll definitely start from the beginning with that one. Thanks for your recommendation. Oooh yes I have started The Assassin's Blade and happy to report that it is amazing!

  3. Is it too late to hop on the VA train or have I missed it? Everyone raves about the series but I've never thought about picking it up, not sure why. Apparently the movie was quite a letdown though 🙁 I hope that's not the case for TFiOS or Divergent! If more movies based on YA books do well, then it'll get more people interested in reading the books!

    • It would be a big series to catch up on, but it's never too late! I know, unfortunately YA movies seem to flop on the big screen as of late. But we've got some pretty big names to follow now! Can't wait for the VA movie to come out, 2 days for Australia!

    • Thanks Gina, I guess I do have to read it now that I've got the 4th book huh? Haven't read Fire & Flood yet but I've heard interesting things. Can't wait to pick it up!

  4. I love Throne of Glass but haven't read the novellas judging from your excitement that has clearly been a mistake! Awesome haul! Enjoy my friend 🙂

  5. You got some really great books this week. I recently bought the Vampire Diaries. Haven't read the series yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

  6. The Children of Liberty has definitely gotten less than stellar reviews but it's a short reason in comparison to the trilogy and I'm definitely going to read it. That series is so perfect that the reason I've held off on this one is because I don't want to ruin the experience! LOL 😉

  7. I still haven't read any of the Elemental series books either, but I keep hearing good things about it. I might have to pick up the first book eventually.

I hope you enjoy your new books!

  8. *stares hungrily at The Assassin's Blade* I HOPE YOU ENJOY THAT. Oh, so delicious. And Fire and Flood?! YAY! I can't wait for your review on that, because everyone's raving about it….and basically I really want to read it. Heheh…awesome haul!! You've done well. XD

    • I know, isn't it a totally gorgeous book? I should take a picture of the back cover as well, it is of the back of Celaena! Thank you Cait, I am chuffed about my haul this week too 😀

  9. I really need to start Throne of Glass, Vampire Academy, AND the Elemental series. I own the first in two of them and just haven't gotten around to it. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week Jeann!

    • You dooo! I totally know how it feels when it feels like everyone is fangirling over a particular book or series and you aren't. But hey, that means we can find other fandoms to join right?

  10. I like the book cover of Secret – this is the first time I saw this version! I wonder what's inside the VA's ultimate guide. Enjoy your books 🙂

  11. The Assassin's Blade looks beautiful! Wow. I love the redesigned covers so much! Ever since the VA movie (which I still haven't seen because it hasn't premiered in my country yet -.-), I've been wanting to buy a boxed set of the whole series with the new, redesigned covers as well. I think they look really cool 🙂 Great haul, Jeann. Enjoy all of your books!

    • I know, I am so super excited to get it! I keep on admiring it lol! I didn't realise the covers have been redesigned. I have seen VA yet but it will be out in Australia in a few days, I can't wait! Thank you Marianne, have an awesome week.

  12. Awesome haul Jeann, I've been itching to read Fire & Flood, can't wait to see what you think of it. I was never able to get into the Throne Of Glass series, I usually struggle with anything that's historical or follows that era. Happy reading Jeann and that's one sexy keyboard in the background 😉
