Stacking the Shelves #22 – FANGIRL Showered in Books

March 9, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Haul, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

Huge book mail week, mostly unsolicited ARCs but I was super excited to be greeted by these packages when I got home! It’s been quite a crazy week for me so coming home to book mail always makes me feel better πŸ™‚

Review copies – physical

Thank you to Bloomsbury, Penguin Australia, Allen & Unwin, Scholastic and Pan Macmillan Australia for these review copies!Β

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – I have been waiting MONTHS to read this raved about book and am reading it as we speak! How pretty is the cover?! I just love that shade of mint!

A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty –Β I requested this book after receiving the 2nd book in the series for review, it’s an award winner and lovely ‘other worldly’ kind of premise.

The Last Shot by Michael AdamsI actually just finished reading The Last Girl last week so I was stoked to receive this in the mail without requesting it! Can’t wait to find out what happens next, I’ll be posting a combined review post of both books once I’ve finished.

Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta –Β This is definitely an Australian classic, it was a lovely and poignant story about an Italian girl in Australia. It was an assigned English class reading back in high school and I remember it well along with watching the movie. This is a beautiful edition of the book!

Take Back the Skies by Lucy SaxonAfter reading and loving These Broken Stars last year, I craved more YA sci-fi that wasn’t completely confusing or bogged down in explanations. Take Back the Skies sounds like it will be perfect for my craving, and I can’t wait to read it!

Tales from the Half-ContinentΒ and Looking for JJΒ look like interesting middle grade/YA reads as well.

Purchased – eBooks

Night of Cake & Puppets by Laini Taylor –Β A Daughter of Smoke & Bone novella. How fascinating and intriguing is the name of this? I just love it!

Bookish News

Best Australian Blogs Competition – I entered the Best Australian Blogs Competition held by the Writer’s Centre, wish me luck! I encourage other Aussie bloggers to enter, it’s incredibly easy!

Vampire Academy movie is out in Australia – I always thought I would be one of those people who would be first in line in the cinema but I haven’t been able to watch it yet. I’ll be watching it in the following week, can’t wait!

Katie McGarry Q&A –Β From March 10-13th, the author of Pushing the Limits, Dare You To and Crash Into You will be answering your questions on David Estes’ Group on Goodreads! Check it out here.

What books did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. So have you seen the movie yet? I missed it already πŸ™ I'm not sure why but I'm so scared to see the movie because I feel like it will disappoint me and it might ruin my love for the book. Well, I have seen the trailer and I wasn't happy about it.

    • OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH Allie! The comics! The illustrations! The cover! I have to admit I actually have a hardback and paperback but I am keeping them both cos they are so pretty.

  2. FANGIIIIRRRLLL πŸ™‚ I just adore the UK paperback cover:) Tales from the Half-Continent, based on the cover, seems like something you'd enjoy, in my opinion. I hope it goes well. Also, I have Zu's novella and I can't wait to read it:) I'm sure Laini will bring the feels.

  3. I did enjoy Fangirl! Finally you have it πŸ˜€ I look forward to your thoughts about Cather and Levi. Levi is such a sweetie! I also have that ebook of Laini Taylor's. I haven't read it yet, though. I really wish there are publishers who send printed ARCs/review copies. Happy reading, Jeann!

  4. Wow! Awesome haul Jeann! Looking forward to seeing what you think of all these pretties! I just finished Fangirl, and sadly it was kind of a "meh" read for me, but I seem to be in the minority, so I'm really interested in seeing what you think of it!

    Thanks for sharing! xD

  5. Fangirl was super adorable! A Corner of White looks really nice as well! It must be great getting book mail–but I live internationally and don't purchase books online, either, so I don't know the feeling. πŸ™ Well, maybe I do. Like, when I have my mini book-buying sprees. πŸ˜‰

  6. Incredible haul this week Jeann, the Auspost delivery guy must have been cursing you like a sailor. Ohh Take Back The Skies! I think I read somewhere that it's a six part book series, and the author is only 19! At 19 I couldn't even sit down and read a book, never mind write one. It looks incredible though.

I entered the Best Aussie Blogs too. I probably shouldn't have though, I've got quite a while to go until I'm up to that standard.

    • I know, I got it in a few goes so he must have been tired of visiting my door lol! I read the media release that came with it and it says she was only 18~!! I cannot believe it, I hope I love it πŸ™‚ Good luck with the competition, glad to hear you entered too!

  7. I just started Fangirl too, and I'm loving it. I think its such a fun idea to include parts of the Simon Snow story into the book, it makes it more real. The protagonist is so easy to connect too and the cover is FABULOUS. Great book haul, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

  8. Oh my goodness you HAVE to see Vampire Academy! I went and saw it Friday, we had been waiting long enough for it to be released in Australia. It was actually SOOOOOOO good.

I am absolutely desperate to read Fangirl and Take Back the Skies. They look really good. Hope you enjoy them!

    • I know, I've had it on my TBR for a few months but after reading Kelly @ Diva Booknerd's review on it, that inspired me to pick it up. It was actually pretty enjoyable! Thanks Emily.

  9. I got the 2 from Scholastic as well…and JJ looks good, but The Tales of the Half-Continent??! It's like a #3.5 and a novella, sooo, not sure I'll be reading that. I also (sadly) didn't click with the Jaclyn Moriarty books, but I'm keen to read your reviews! I'm not even sure why I didn't like them. Night of the Cake and Puppets looks aaaaawesome!
