With Hollywood leading the charge in bringing our favourite YA books to life on the big screen, there is no better time to be a Young Adult novel enthusiast.
Vampire Academy opened in Australian cinemas this month and introduces the world to Rose Hathaway, (played by Zoey Deutch), a half human half vampire Dhampir who is training to be a bodyguard for her Moroi best friend, Lissa Dragomir (played by Lucy Fry)at St Vladimir’s Academy. Rose is mentored by Dimitri Belikov (played by Danila Kozlovsky) to be Lissa’s guardian, protecting her from the bloodthirsty and immortal Strigoi.
The movie documents their journey through the academy, driven by the complex, turbulent and devoted relationship between Lissa and Rose which makes for a fascinating dynamic, set against the backdrop of evil vampires, love interests and magic.
The film, directed by Mark Waters of Mean Girls fame promises a sultry look into St Vladimir’s Academy. Check out the trailer below for a preview of what to expect when you enrol into the Vampire Academy.
