Stacking the Shelves #25 – 3DS XL & Happy International Tabletop Day

April 6, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Gaming, Haul, Indulgence Insider, Swag

This week I added some books to my shelves but the most exciting thing that I added was a new 3DS XL console!

I haven’t upgraded my DS since the DS Lite model that was several years ago. As soon as I heard Professor Layton versus Phoenix Wright were out, two of my FAVOURITE DS games franchises ever, I had to go and get one!

Red and Black aren’t my ideal colours, I would have preferred the white one but it was the best out of the other colours and the sales person was willing to bargain so why not? I got a great bargain at JB Hifi (did you know you could bargain down the prices there??) and nabbed the last copy of the game on sale at Big W. There’s a pink and white kirby 2DS coming out, but I really don’t like the look of that model.

Here’s my new pretties:

Looks like I’ve got lots of Professor Layton to catch up on!

Now to my books…

Review copies – physical

Thank you to all publishers for sending me these books in exchange for review!

Got another copy of Fire & Flood from Scholastic, so that means I’ll be holding a giveaway for the 2nd copy of the book! International readers, I hear ya so this giveaway will be international! My review & giveaway will go up tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Also received the next in The Last Thirteen series, Nine, I still haven’t read these books yet but with one release a month it’s pretty prolific.

The Year of the Rat is one I haven’t heard of before from Simon & Schuster, I can see the book is available on Netgalley. Anyone read this? It looks like a humourous contemporary.

I bought Eleanor & Park from Book Depository, I have read and loved everything else by her and no doubt I will love this one too. TBD had 10% off some of their best sellers and this was on the list, so the perfect time to pick it up!

Also bought the first 3 Charley Davidson series, a paranomal romance about a Grim Reaper and a part time PI. I’ve had many recommendations from trusted Goodreads friends about this series, especially since I loved the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine. I’ve heard Charley has a wicked sense of humour! These books are $2.99 for a limited time only on Amazon.

PTA Live Brisbane tomorrow – I AM SO EXCITED! I cannot wait to meet you guys and to fangirl over the latest YA releases tomorrow!

Happy International Tabletop Day – Thanks to Geek & Sundry, Tabletop Day is a Thing and I spent all of yesterday playing board games, one of my favourite hobbies. I played Shadows of Camelot (lost to evil), King of Tokyo (lost), Big Bang Theory Party Game (won), Hanabi (won as a group), Incan Gold (lost), For Sale (won). It was a pretty epic day!

I just realised I need to tell you guys about my love of board games.

  1. Oh nooo, sounds like it's due for an upgrade! I'm glad the DS XL is backwards compatible, so it can play all your older games. You should play Prof Layton if you're into story based games and puzzles!

  2. OMG I love Fire & FLood! So lucky to get it in paperback! Hope you enjoy all of these and thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

  3. Oh man I love my 3DS XL!! It's so much better than regular 3DS. Since you got it just now, does that mean you haven't played the new Pokemon game?? COME ON! How dare you even call yourself a game?? (just kidding 😛 but you should totally play Pokemon – the power of classics)

  4. I LOVED Fire & Flood, so I can't wait to see what you think of it! 😀 I haven't read Eleanor and Park, The Last Thirteen or Year of the Rat yet, but I'm really interested in seeing what you think of them!

And good luck with your Best Australian Blogs contest! 😀 You're going to rock it! xD

  5. I still have a DS Lite and it's dying :(, my top screeen stays black and then I wriggle it around and if I am lucky it goes on again. So who knows I might have to switch to a newer model eventually. I haven't played a Professor Layton game yet, although they do sound fun :). That tabletop day sounds fun!

  6. I'm so excited, I played the first 3 games and loved them, so I have a lot to catch up on. Omg I've seen those versions of the DS and they are awesome! The yoshi one is available now but I wanted to get mine cheap lol. Yay for King of Tokyo! Hope you enjoy. Thanks for visiting Michelle!

  7. Sounds like you plateaued with cod, I did that with starcraft. I'm adverse to those time waster sorts of games cos I get addicted lol! It needs to have a conclusion. Bwahahaha he's practically one in any other sense :p

  8. Haha yes we were laughing at the game we were playing. Yup that's my guy! I've heard heaps of ppl are addicted to hearthstone, i haven't gotten into it though. Thanks Faye!

  9. I'm just dying to read something from Rainbow Rowell – it seems that every book she writes ends up being really popular. 🙂 I think I need to read her books during the summer, somehow they seem like really good summer reads. Great haul – enjoy your goodies! 🙂

  10. Ooooh, is that your boyfriend, Jeann??? 😀 You look so happy in that picture!! I've never been much for Tabletop games (in fact I don't really know what they do HAHA) but I've recently been playing Blizzard's Hearthstone. Is that the same thing somehow? 🙂 And yay for your game! This reminds me I need to save moolah for a PS4 🙁 And oh! Enjoy your books <3

  11. *high five* for the 3DS! I haven't played mine in awhile, so I'm sure all of the animals in my town on Animal Crossing hate me. I bet weeds and bamboo has completely taken over. -sigh-

Yes! The Charley Davidson series is so good. The 5th one is my favorite, though. <3

  12. Happy whitegoods day! You and hubby look like you loved celebrating with board games (I say hubby as I'm still not convinced that you didn't get hitched in Vegas).

I had a first gen DS when they were first released, but after a few months it was stored away and just gathered dust. I love the new ones though, not sure I'd get much use out of it though. I've taken to a few games on my Fire HD. I love the nerd games, Boggle, Yahtzee and Scrabble. But I used to love to play COD online, but lost it's novelty once I prestiged.

  13. Yay you have a 3DS! I've been wanting to try out the Professor Layton games but I'm hesitant to buy the first game at full price when the new one is out. I may break down and buy it anyway. I have the gold Zelda version of the 3DS which I love, but only because the Pokemon X and Pikachu versions were sold out. 😛

I totally missed Tabletop Day, everyone had to work. I love King of Tokyo, it's so much fun! I'll have to look up some of the others. I'm glad you had a good week and I hope you enjoy your new books!

  14. I can't wait for your review on Eleanor and Park. It is going to be a movie. Have to read the book first!

I added some books I won to my shelf. Does that count? But I did find my list of what I want from the Spring/Summer release list. I am going to B n N tomorrow. Wish me luck I have 18 books on my list. I have a bunch more of course who doesn't on my tbr but this was from a specific company that put out a free manual in January with various new releases. Love the UK idea! So would we all be able to chat. Us with them?

  15. My friend introduced me to the Professor Layton games a couple of years ago, but haven't had the chance to play it since then. I hope you enjoy your books! 🙂 Eleanor & Park was a fantastic read, I hope you like it as much as you do her other books.

  16. My brother would die of jealousy if he sees your 3DS! He's been nagging us (his sisters) to get him one. Awesome 'Eleanor & Park' addition to your library. Fantastic choice! I used to play a lot of board games, but when my friends and I get together, we usually just eat, talk, or play music with my friends guitar. We sing! Happy weekend, Jeann!

  17. Oooooh, I'm sure you're gonna adore Eleanor & Park, I so love love loved it! And I cannot wait to read your review of Fire & Flood!

Btw, YAY for you starting the Charley Davidson series! It's one of my most favourite urban fantasy/paranormal adult series, and I'm dying to get my hands on the next book of the series! It's full of humour and also one very sexy son of Satan!

    Happy reading Jeann!

And OH ARE YOU GOING TO BLOG ABOUT THE PTA?! It's something I'd love to do one day, buuuut, I want to know more about what it's about. I'm only like 4 hours from Brisbane, so maybe next year. x)
