Stacking the Shelves #30 – John Green Box Set

May 18, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where we share what we added to our shelves this week. SoΒ all the books that I purchased The Book Depository and Bookworld have arrived this week! Now to find a place on my shelves to put them (Even though I have zero space on my shelf). I don’t really have many comments about this week except that it’s getting colder here and I’m getting lazier with the gym and eating more comfort food, mmm.

Book HaulΒ

Veronica Mars: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham – I know the audiobook is narrated by Kirsten Bell but I like reading, so got this too. I loved the movie!

Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire – Seanan McGuire is awesome and this is her new series! (She is also Mira Grant, if you didn’t know).

Sister Assassin (Mind Games) by Kiersten White – Bought this cheap at the discount bookstore, didn’t realise it was the same title as Mind Games which I need to read πŸ™‚

Vicious by V.E. Schwab – I adore superheroes and have heard awesome things!

Parasite by Mira Grant – I LOVE THIS BOOK, and awesome sci-fi that had me guessing.

John Green Box Set – Guys, this is only $40 at TBD! Click here to buy.

Review copies – physical

Thanks to Bloomsbury Australia and Penguin Australia for sending me these review copies!

Chasing Stars by Helen Douglas – I read the first book but wasn’t a big fan (it’s another one of those stereotypical books but hey, I’m all for giving the 2nd one a try.

Dangerous Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl – I wasn’t a fan of Beautiful Creatures either because of Evan, but if it’s a different series I might enjoy it more.

Review copies – digital

rain sidekick

Rain by Amanda Sun – I just love the covers to these books, they are so beautiful! I hope Katie Green is less annoying in this one.

Sidekick by Auralee Wallace – Anything with superheroes, I’m there.

Thank you to Harlequin and Escape Publishing for these review copies via Netgalley.

  1. First off, I am so sorry for the late return stop!

Parasite keeps catching my eye but my library doesn't have it and I can't quite decide it is worth the money just yet. I just got Rain this past week. Hope you have been enjoying all these!

  2. It is actually quite creepy isn't it? That's what drew me to the book at the bookstore. Yeah, I'm glad I only had TFIOS in a special hardcover edition. So glad you started V Mars, I hope you enjoy it! It kind of went down hill later on which is why they canned it, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Thank you lovely! and Sorry for the late reply!

  3. I saw John Green's box set and really want it, but too bad I've already had Paper Towns and TFiOS. Is that Vicious UK edition?? The cover looks so cool!! I'm not a fan of Beautiful Creatures, but Dangerous Creatures cover is so prettyy!! But I still need to finish Caster Chronicles series first, so far I don't really like Ridley.

Enjoy your books, Jeann! Also, love the links of Discussion posts πŸ˜€

    • Yep, the UK edition of Vicious πŸ™‚ I like some UK covers better than US but others not as much. I didn't like Ridley or Ethan actually. Thank you Ikao, I just put the Discussion link up too πŸ™‚

  4. That Sister Assasin cover creeps me out a bit… Haha but I hope it's a good read! It's on my TBR list! I've always wanted to buy the John Green Boxset, but I guess I'll just end up buying each book separately. I have Looking for Alaska & Paper Towns already, so I'm half way there xD I've recently started the Veronica Mars series, and didn't know about the book! Enjoy your books, hun. Happy reading!

  5. Me toooo I just loved the book so much! I hope you read TFIOS, it is awesome, really. And now with the movie coming out, that gives you even more of an incentive!

  6. I totally know what you mean Michelle, I always have a shipment or my eye one a few books hehe. How good was Parasite, only Mira Grant could make us like a story with tapeworms, ewww. Thank you lovely, you too!

  7. Jeaaaaann! You have Vicious!!! VICIOUUUUS!! That's a really lovely book and one of my 2013 favorites. If you read it soon (read: ASAP), I will love you forever and worship you and sacrifice cookies in your altar. I want to have someone to discuss them with πŸ˜‰

And I take it you've read PARASITE by Mira Grant already then? I loved that awesome book as well. I thought it was a little dragging, but overall well done, and it made me scared of worms… let's just hope they don't find themselves in our skulls one day >.<

    • Oooohh I think it was your review that really made me want to read it! I'm so glad it's finally in my hot little hands. HAha I will have to read it soon then! *looks at huge TBR pile* soon-ish.

YES I LOVED PARASITE it was one of my top 2013 books as well! It was sooo good loved it. Can't wait for the sequel! You mean worms in our belly πŸ˜‰

  8. I thought about buying the boxset, but I'm going to try and wait another week before buying more books (says the person who has two shipments on the way now). Mind Games was pretty good and Parasite was amazing! I need to buy that book, I'm in love with the cover.

I hope you have a good week Jeann and happy reading!

  9. I have the Veronica Mars book on my shelf right now, though I haven't made a spot to read it this month, but I'm very excited and I hope you love it! I had no idea that the audio was read by Kristen Bell, though! I'll be sure to want it, if I love the book! ( :

  10. I LOVE Parasite as well and really can't wait for Symbiont XD

I have been thinking of reading John Green books for a great deal of time now and I still can't make up my mind because his books have completely mix reviews but The Fault in Our Stars seems to have quite a consistent positive one. So if ever I'll read one of his books, I'm thinking of starting with that.

  11. I can't wait for you to read and review A Thousand Dollar Tan Line! I just love how Veronica Mars is growing and transitioning into books. It's like when Buffy transitioned into comics for Season 8! I still need to read those actually. Anyway, great haul Jeann! πŸ˜€

    • Yay, I'm glad you bought the DVD of the movie, I think you will enjoy it πŸ˜€ have you seen the series yet? There's lots of inside jokes and stuff that will be better if you've seen it. Thank you Aimee! <3

  12. Here it's getting warmer, we had some stormy weather a week ago and now the sun seems to be here. That cover for Rain is beautifull indeed! I still have to read the first book in that series, it's on my to-read list, but I haven't bought it yet. I hope you enjoy your new books!

  13. WOW! You lucky duck with your John Green boxset! Haha! πŸ˜‰

I've heard awesome things about Vicious and Chasing Stars, so I can't wait to see what you think of them!

I agree, I liked the Beautiful Creatures series, but it didn't have that extra "umph" that made me LOVE it, you know? But I'm interested in seeing what you think of this new series. πŸ˜€

Thanks for sharing Jeann and happy reading! <3

  14. Many great books! I'm so curious about the Veronica MArs one and I have the Aguirre as well and I can't wait to start it! Happy reading, I'll wait for your reviews!

  15. I feel very nervous about Sidekick.. I tried that book and just- no, it didn't work for at all, but I hope you feel differently, I did hype it up a little the other week and I've heard such great things about Vicious, I so want to read that myself soon, so maybe one day! Great haul all in all Jeann and I hope you have a great week eating all the food and snuggling in all the blankets! πŸ˜€

I LOVE the Lifeline book fairs we have here, but I have awesome things about the mega one you guys have, I hope you find a bunch of awesome books!

I'm not so keen on the Beautiful Creatures spin off either, I got a copy this week too but I think I'll be passing it along to someone who's super keen for it!

    • No problems, Mands! I just love the Lifeline Book Fest, it's my favourite times of the year hehe. Yeah I wasn't a fan of beautiful creatures but willing to give this one a shot!

  17. Ohhh, that pretty John Green box set. *drools* I'm SO tempted, but I own Paper Towns. I seriously want to own TFIOS. Particularly since I'd love to reread it before I watch the movie….Maybe Big W has it actually, because goodness knows TBD takes forever to get books to Australia. Or else maybe it's just my address it dislikes. x)

    • WOAH I can't believe you don't have TFIOS yet, now I have 2 copies (1 from the box set and one signed hardback). I think Big W does have it, it's about $11 or something πŸ˜€

  18. Jaz

YAY for the John Green box set :3 I still need to read his other 3 books lol.

Also, where did you get Vicious from? I've been trying to find it everywhere.

    Happy reading πŸ˜€

    • So do I lol, I thought the box set was a pretty good deal. OMG you must get the book then! I saw it at Dymocks πŸ˜€ I bought Vicious online from Bookworld πŸ˜€

    • Oooh they have really beautiful covers don't they? I just LOVE the John Green books that are out in Australia and the covers, but this box set saves me from tracking down all the different books (plus I love box sets).
