Stacking the Shelves #31 – HEIR OF FIRE IS MINE

STS_HI

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tyngaโ€™s Reviews where we share what we added to our shelves this week.

It’s been really interesting seeing all of the BEA happenings on Twitter and other blogs, I am totally fangirling with you all when you meet certain authors or get ARCs! One day I will attend, one day. Speaking of conventions, I booked my plane tickets to PAX Australiaย so my boyfriend and I will be jetsetting to Melbourne in late October/November! I am super excited, will be catching up with a lot of my gaming friends and checking out the latest games.

Other than that, last week I went to a massive Greek festival here and ate up a storm. There
were chicken yiros, honey puffs, spinach and feta triangles, marinated octopus and calamari and so much yummy goodness! I can’t believe it’s another year until I can eat these honey puffs again…

I got all of these at a bookstore outlet at DFO for $3 each! I could not believe my luck in stumbling upon these awesome titles! They had Slammed there too, I recently bought it for $14 which sucked ๐Ÿ˜› totally worth it though.

Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover (Slammed #2)
A Fistful of Charms by Kim Harrisonย (The Hollows #4)
Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness
The House of Scorpion & Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer

Review copies – physical

STSreview_31may_HI

Thank you to Scholastic Australia and Hardie Grant Egmont for sending me these copies! I’m really eager to reading Gone after some recent raves about it (I’m looking at you Cait!)

Gone by Michael Grant

Seven: The Last Thirteen by James Phelan

Breaking Butterflies by M. Anjelais – I haven’t heard about this before but it sounds really beautiful. Doesn’t the cover remind you of those classic psychology tests?

Review copies – eARCs

Jaz (Pixel Ski) let me know that HEIR OF FIRE was on Netgalley and I pretty ย much dropped everything to go and read it! I am so thankful of my Bloomsbury Australia auto-approval. Go, go everywhere and go download it! I have just started and it is fantastic.

Annnd it looks like HarperCollins and Katherine Tegen Books have put up their next batch of YA reads on Edelweiss, so I got busy with downloading them while everyone is at BEA ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also got an ARC ofย Slip by David Estes which is a futuristic dystopian with extreme measures of population control. I wish I could share with you guys the cover, but it isn’t out yet. I’ll be reviewing it as part of the book blitz on June 16, I hope you guys can take part as well!

    • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! *dies of shame* Sorry Jeann!!! That's what happens when I go commenting while chatting on Twitter! SORRY!!

I still haven't heard anything about UK Heir of Fire, so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed!

  1. I can't wait to continue the Kim Harrison series, but you know I never got around to it after book 3! That's really exciting, it's so much easier to pick up a new series than to read a long one.

  2. Oooh awesome, I actually can't remember reading many reviews about it so I'm glad iit's good. That's a really good idea to use them as rewards haha! I couldn't resist and went and downloaded most of them! I'm so glad you got approved for HoF, that is awesome!

  3. Oh it was so much fun Ebony, we have it yearly and it's a really big event! Thanks for those, I really love the rejacketed Gone series too ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope it's going to be good.

  4. Such a Rush!! That one is one of my favorites! I've only picked up one of Harper's newest Edelweiss batch so far (surprisingly), but I'm using them as rewards for catching up on reading, blogging, and commenting. As for Heir of Fire . . . yay! When I spotted it on Netgalley, I immediately requested it. I was approved for it the other night (I was NOT expecting to get it), so I can binge read the novellas, CoM, and that book when I find some time for them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. It's so exciting, seeing fellow reviewers reading and loving Heir of Fire, and I'm so excited that you're really enjoying it! I don't read ecopies, myself, so I'm holding off until physical copies become available, which is slightly painful. I cannot WAIT to read it!

  6. A GREEK FESTIVAL?? OH. MY. GOD. I am super jealous! I love the Greek culture and the food. THE FOOD. Oh my, I just love it…It sounds like you had a great week, Jeann! I'm interested in both of those Nancy Farmer books as well as Stitching Snow and A Thousand Pieces of You, so I can't wait to see what you think of them. I also adore the re-jackets of the Gone series!

  9. Hooray! I've grabbed quite a few of these myself. I'm so excited to read so many of them.

And yes yes yes on the Kim Harrison – I love her. I can't believe her series is almost over – I die with anticipation to find out what she will write about next.

One of the publicists at BEA said that she is already working on the next series and its another urban fantasy so I'm excited!

I hope I get approved because Ask Again Later was adorable. Stitching Snow! I should stop all this jealousy haha! I enjoyed Such a Rush so I hope you like it! 15. That food makes me hungry.. Greek festival sound so much fun, I wish there's something like that here, includes all foods XD You're so lucky to get cheap books, Crane Wife is still new and it's $3 woowww. Ah and I really need to get Throne of Glass soon, I saw in twitter that people on BEA were so excited to get Heir of Fire!

Glad to hear you guys loved it! That was super fast! Oh wow, was that on Edelweiss? You may be camping out for a while XD

  19. I know what you mean when that happens, I do mine every week or 2 weeks depending on my book stack. It would be the perfect way to experience NYC with BEA with so many book lovers in town! That would be the best holiday ever. Let's do it Amanda, how should we buddy read, on Goodreads or Google Hangout or Twitter? Let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Twitter is good for me if it's good for you? Just let me know when you want to get into it and what page counts or chapters we can have a good gossip it at and I'm all yours, I'm pretty much empty this month when it comes to books to read, very freestyle ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. I've had quite a slow haul month this month, so I'm mixing this months and next months up instead, so I'm not showing them off yet, but I did see Heir of Fire on NetGalley requested it myself, but haven't heard back yet and it's annoying to say the least. I'm sad I'm not at BEA too, I desperately want to go to NYC anyway, so one day, I'll have to mix the two and take like, the whole week or something, that'd be fantastic, oosh! I've got Gone, the UK covers that are all coloured on the edges of the pages(?) and if you're interested in reading it together, I'm all for it, I need encouragement, but either way, I'll be reading your review, I need some fresh opinions on it rather than ones from years ago! Great haul and fun reading Jeann! ๐Ÿ™‚

We will totally make it to BEA one day, Jeann. IT WILL HAPPEN. I cannot even look at the posts or pictures because I internally weep at our living arrangements, haha ๐Ÿ˜›
