Stacking the Shelves #33: Lifeline Bookfest Sale day

June 15, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where we share what we added to our shelves this week.

This week I didn’t get around to visiting many blogs or responding to comments because I sprained my wrist from boxing. It was quite painful and difficult to work but I’m glad to say I can type now! So I’ve been on a commenting frenzy!

So I went back to the Lifeline bookfest on sale day because I had the chance to and all books were half price! Lots of the good stuff was gone though, so I definitely enjoyed it. And I’m now going to deal with my “books on the floor” situation by getting a new bookshelf and doing some reshuffling of furniture, yay!

Book Haul

Review copies – physical

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski – I have been waiting for this one to come out in paperback for ages, seeing as the beautiful hardback has those bevelled edges which I abhor. Can’t wait to read this soon!

The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet – After loving the Lizzie Bennet Diaries series on Youtube, I was so excited to find more in the LB universe!

Spark by Rachael Craw – I’ve been chatting with the author on Twitter who is really lovely, and will be participating in the blog tour later this month. So far, I’m really enjoying this book with a unique, well thought out concept about Sparks, People who protect them called Shields, and people who are trying to harm them called Strays.

Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan – This came in the most gorgeous and thoughtful package, with a pack of tissues and a warning sticker on it! I really enjoyed the package and the tissues are appreciated for this tearjerker.

Thank you Walker Books Australia, Simon & Schuster Australia and Bloomsbury Australia for sending me these review books!

Purchased – Lifeline Bookfest Haul Part 2

All of these books pictured were $2.50! I couldn’t NOT get them. Sadly, I accidentally got some doubles >< oops.

Stray by Rachel Vincent
Rogue by Rachel Vincent
White Witch Black Curse by Kim Harrison – I hate this cover, it looks so weird!
Hexed by Kevin Hearne – I didn’t realise it was the 2nd in the series.
The Calling by Kelley Armstrong – I had a paperback of this already but couldn’t resist this awesome hardback!
Pride by Rachel Vincent – I had this already in the smaller format -_-‘
Ascend by Amanda Hocking
Lost in Time by Melissa de la Cruz – have most of this series on my shelf, haven’t read yet.
The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen – This is brand new, there seemed to be a few there!

Tiger’s Destiny by Colleen Houck
Taken by Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Steadfast by Claudia Gray – I think I mixed this up into my pile accidentally from last week’s haul
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray – Yay, I only need the last book to this series and I’ve collected them all! This series is really great guys.
Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones
Something Deadly This Way Comes by Kim Harrison
Working Stiff by Rachel Caine – Was chuffed to find this, especially after picking up the 2nd book last time.
Daylighters by Rachel Caine

I won Kelly’s REBEL by Amy Tintera giveaway and also swapped some books with her and got Afterworld by Lynnette Lounsbury. She also sent me a copy of Eat Pray Love, which I gave to my sister because I already have a copy. Thank you Ms Diva Booknerd!

Bookish News

The 2nd trailer for The Giver is out –  and it is brilliant. One of my favourite books converted into a movie that looks like it’s going to be awesome!

The Delirium TV series trailer – was launched as well. It looks pretty cool but I’m not sure how it will translate into a series. I’m also not sure about the female lead.

Brisbane Writers’ Festival has a YA festival on Saturday, 6 September 2014 – And the guests are Laini Taylor (USA), Isobelle Carmody, Sean Williams, Ananda Braxton-Smith and Will Kostakis! LAINI TAYLOR GUYS. SHE’S A ROCKSTAR. AND I WILL GET TO MEET HER.

Penguin Teen Australia completed their TFIOS Marathon Challenge – Where they visited cities across Australia to watch the movie in opening week. We joined them in Brisbane and it was a really great experience watching it with fans!

  1. So did I, it is such a beautiful hardback but the edges are annoying. I think it's a style decision. I'm glad I got the finished paperback as well, now I can enjoy the story without being preoccupied about the edges.

  2. I hated the edges on the hardback of The Winner's Curse, especially since mine flattens out on one end but not the other. So I was beyond excited when Bloomsbury sent me a finished paperback to review, absolutely loved that book. I can't wait to read Apple & Rain, I hope that's an emotional read. I hope you enjoy all of these 🙂

  3. I got Lizzie Bennet and The Winners Curse too, and am super excited for both! It's been a while since the rush of LBD, so I'm slightly nervous that the book just won't live up to the fond memories I have, but I'm really hoping it does and I can just enjoy it and live in the memories of watching Lizzie manage through the trials of being a young woman and a Bennet. 4. Seriously, this meme is not healthy for me lol! Seeing all these interesting books and adding some of them in my tbr list will make my reading schedule suffer but who cares right? HAHA!

I did buy a lot of books earlier this month and I am thinking of doing a StS post monthly now. 😀

Hope you're feeling better now Jeann 🙂

  5. I know, I was thinking how handy it would be if I could speak and it would write out my review for me. I think there may be an app for it. Haha those phones don't understand my aussie accent 🙁

  6. Haha it was a one off class with my PT. Was lots of fun regardless. I've heard so many raves about Winner's Curse that it makes me nervous! I love the bookfest, most of my books are from there.

  7. Oh I hope you do give the Libba Bray series a go, I really enjoyed it! Lol hopefully I'll get a new shelf this weekend. I do enjoy fairytale retellings but I need to have read the original first.

  8. Oh wow awesome haul! I got the Stray series (vincent) for my bday this year but I haven't read it yet.Apparently it's great! And The Winner's Curse I have been meaning to read for ever and still haven't I fail! haha. That one has epic reviews though which always intimidates me for some reason.

It's good to hear that your wrist is feeling better 🙂 So many pretties! I am curious to see what you think of Rebel. Eep Lizzie Bennet! I got this as well and recently read it; it doesn't disappoint :DDD

    Happy reading, Jeann! <33

  10. I love this meme Jeann! You know why? Because I get to discover books almost as much as when I check out reviews!

I'm watching Lizzie Bennet now thanks to Joyousreads linking to and I requested the book on NG because Mel over at Midnight Reads gave it a 4.5 rating 🙂 I can't wait for your review on this one! And I need to do a commenting frenzy soon! I do my commenting on my phone mostly but I feel I'm more effective if I'm on my computer. Haha, I'm being random 😛

  12. wow I'm impressed that's a lot of books. I loved the winner's curse. I love Darynda Jones. I likes Stray but it was too much like the Armstrong series for me. I should try the others. Happy reading!

  13. Hhahaha, I have a lot of books on the floor too! I read The Winner's Curse, it was really good! Have to try the series from Libba Bray, thanks for the rec! As for shelved… Well, I finished Cinder form Marie Sexton (M/M romance.) It was good but lacked on depth–shelved as three stars lol. I did puchase some books from Amazon but they'll arrive Monday. I love fairy tale retellings! 😀 Do you?

  14. You do boxing? O___O WOW. THAT'S SO COOOOOL. (Not about the sprained wrist part of course! Hope you get better<33)

Everyone seems to be loving The Winner's Curse lately; I definitely need to get myself a copy ASAP. And love the books you bought from the Lifeline bookfest! They look like some fantastic paranormal reads<3

  15. So sorry to hear about your wrist. Why isn't there like a voice-activated computer feature that works. I mean, Siri hates me. But I gave her an Aussie accent so I don't hate her back.

I got waaaay behind on returning comments due to being sick, my kids being sick, and then catching up with life stuff after all the being sick. But I'm back to it 🙂 Hope you're feeling better soon.

  16. Oh you poor thing, hope the wrist heals soon! I need to read TWC already, I've had it since last August #fail! The Sarah Crossan Book and Spark look like good reads too, will be looking out for you reviews!

  17. Oooh, I've totally got to acquire The Lizzie Bennet Diares! LOVE the vlog series and I think it would be a really funny book. Plus, I love retellings. I got Apple and Rain as well – how funny is the package! Very cute. Looks like you got a stack of great books, so happy reading with those 🙂 I have a copy of Rebel too, but still need to track down my copy of Reboot, which I lent to someone…hmm 😛

  19. Amazing haul!! Happy reading for all those wonderful books 🙂

And yes, Laini Taylor is a rock star!! But she wonderfully delightful in "real life". I will definitely be finding a way to see her again while she is Australia – if I end up going to BWF I will let you know, we will have to catch up
