Indulgence Insider #5 – Welcome to August

August 3, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is my version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

I can’t believe we’re in August already! It feels like Christmas has just gone by and this month has crept up really quickly! I also caught up with blog comments and making the blogging rounds so I feel a lot more relaxed about things this week.

Have you scheduled your post for the Read Play Blog gaming feature on August 16th? The topic is What is your favourite gaming genre? Ana and I would love for you to take part!

This week I finally decided to put a call out for a co-blogger and/or co-reviewer. Thanks to those who have sent in applications, I’ll be waiting for a few more to come in before I decide, so stand by! If you’re thinking of blogging or if you just want to contribute, this is the perfect opportunity. And if you’ve been procrastinating about your application, remember you have to be in it to be considered!

Book Haul

STS 2 Aug 2014v2

masquerade signed

The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness – I’ve enjoyed the last 2 books in this detailed time travelling, vampire romance so had to get this one to see where the series goes. The cover is beautiful and simple as well.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell – One of my most anticipated reads this year, can’t wait to see how it is! I’ve loved Rainbow’s adult reads.

Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier – I’ve already received a copy of this book for review, but kindly enough the author offered me a signed copy of the book on Twitter. It is such a beautiful quote and in purple pen as well! I’ll be offering a copy of Masquerade for giveaway when I put my review up next week. Sorry, it’d be Aust only, but I’ve got a great giveaway coming up for US/Canadians soon!

Ricochet by Krista & Becca Ritchie – I also hopelessly got addicted to the Addicted series (ha) thanks to Siiri and Christy’s book pushing. So I bought the sequel to the first already, my review will be up on Monday.

STS 2 Aug 2014

Of course it wouldn’t be a week gone by without visiting the library. I had to return a book so I took the opportunity to browse the shelves for others.

The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine
This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers
Cracked by Eliza Crewe

  1. I know right, I think everyone has said the same about August! I really enjoyed Fangirl and Attachments, still have to read E&P but I know everyone loved it. You too, Katherine.

  2. Thanks Michelle, signed copies are the best thing ever. Glad to hear you loved Landline, I can't wait to read it myself! I think a few people weren't keen on The Promise of Amazing, so I'm not sure whether I'd get around to picking it up. Thanks lovely!

  3. I hope you search for a Co-blogger/Co-Reviewer is going well! Jess is supposed to be my co-reviewer but she majorly slacks off lol. I've thought about asking for a co-blogger/reviewer but it just makes me too nervous. I feel like I would be forced to choose someone if I made a post about it but what if no one is a right fit? Anyways, the Mockingjay trailer looks good! My sister didn't enjoy the last book so I'm interested to see how I'll like the last movie =) Hope you have a great August!

  4. Ooh, signed books. I have to grab a copy of Masquerade, I've seen nothing but incredible reviews and that cover is delicious! Awesome wrap up, I've missed out on so much this week, so stopped by to see who's up to what. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Landline. I liked E & P, but really disliked Fangirl. I dunno, I kind of think RR is completely overrated 🙁

  5. Oh I love that cover of Landline! It was a really cute read, hope you enjoy it!!

And that is a really cute quote for The Masquerade (: Oh The Promise of Amazing, loved the cover and the title, but the content wasn't quite my thing. Hopefully you still enjoy it more than I did.

I can't believe it's August already, too ): I need more summer. Though I guess it's winter for you, hah. Can't wait to see who the new co-blogger is! Have an awesome week, Jeann!

    • I know, it's so pretty! Too bad promise of amazing wasn't your thing. I picked it up because it's one I need to review.

Yes, I can't wait for winter to be over! Thanks lovely!

  6. Yeah for comic con!! I hope that you find a great co-blogger. My husband reads so many books I wish he would take the time to write a review that I could post on the blog. Alas.. he won't. Such a bummer. I don't really want to share my blog though with strangers so for now I''ll just keep it for me. I can be so greedy!

  7. Wow! Gorgeous haul! You're seriously making me jealous, Jeann! The signed copy is so awesome! I got Landline a few weeks back too and I'm going to read it very soon. Rainbow Rowell is spectacular, and I love her adult goodies!

I read The Promise of Anything last year and I thought it to be okay, not really my type, but I do hope that you'll enjoy it! I recently requested This Is Not a Test from the library too! I am always in the mood for a zombie read. 🙂 Happy reading!

  8. I'm with everyone else – this year has gone by so quickly! I can't believe it's already 2/3 done! 😀

I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of Landline. I've only read one Rainbow Rowell book, and I was a bit disappointed with it, but I'm interested in seeing how this one compares. 🙂

And yes! So many promising book-to-movie adaptions coming out! 😀 The Giver looks better and better with each trailer (it's one of my favorite books too Jeann! I hope they don't screw it up!) and, as usual, Mockingjay looks fantastic.

Thanks for sharing and happy August! <33

    • I know right, I just can't believe it! I'm looking forward to reading Landline as well, it'd be interesting reading another adult Rainbow book. I'm really excited about The Giver trailer, it gave me the chills and so did the Mockingjay trailer! Happy August hun.

  9. I also can't believe it's already August 😮 My friend told me that the year is far past half way done and it's like ahhhh. Can't believe how fast time actually flies by. While you have caught up with blogging comments, I on the other hand have fell wayyyy behind. Ooops.

I'm curious to see how you felt by Landline. I've seen some people have adored it, while others not so much. I don't really read a lot of adult fiction, so I'm curious to see what I think of it. And I definitely will read it because it's Rainbow! haha. It's so sweet that the author of Masquerade not only gave you a review copy but signed it (: Can't wait to enter the Canadian contest woooo.

Thanks for linking my post girl! (: And I hope your search for the co-blogger is going well. I can't wait to see who will be joining the awesomeness of the Happy Indulgence

    • I know right, I just can't believe how fast it has happened! Oh well, it's something that it's hard to consistently stay on top of isn't it? Yeah, I've heard differing things about Landline too, for some reason with her books I find people's expectations are sky high. No problems Larissa, there's been a few options in mind!

  10. My friend went to BEA and brought me back a copy of Landline and now I have to make time to read it. I'm a Rainbow Rowell fan and there's not a book she's written that I didn't love.

I hope you find another co-blogger because for me, the gals on my blog have helped me a ton and I love them. 😉

  11. I still need to start Ritchie's books!! UGH!! But that's great you're another fan!! I must move them up the pile now!!! Actually, Christy will beat me if I don't get to them, I'm sure 😉

Good luck on the co-blogger search!!! That is so freaking exciting and big steps! YAY!!!

  12. I haven't started the Addicted series yet, but I do have book 1 and I have a feeling I will become "addicted" to it as well. 🙂 The Promise of Amazing was really cute. I've wanted to read This is Not a Test for a very long time, so I'll be looking forward to your review of that one. I really enjoyed Landline as well, just not quite AS much as her YA stuff. Still she's an amazing author. And best of luck to you on finding a co-blogger!! It was the best decision I ever made for the blog. Looking forward to meeting you new member! 🙂

    • Haha I think everyone has found this book Addictive, it's sooo good! My review just came up today for it. Glad to hear you enjoyed The Promise of Amazing, it's not high up on my list but I grabbed it anyway at the library. Glad to hear you ended up enjoying Landline, I've heard variable things about it. Thank you!

  13. Nice haul! I have read the first book in Debora Harkness her series and really enjoyed it, but when I picked up the second book I had forgotten too much to get into it. I hope I'll eventually have time to re-read book 1 and then read book 2 and 3 right afterwards.

  14. WOW, you've had quite a busy week, Jeann! And I love your new books this week. How cool is it that you got an extra signed copy of one of those, eh?

I hope you'll be able to find a co-blogger to help you out, and that it will be a fun experience, leaving you a little more time to do other things 🙂

Have a fantastic week (and also a great month of August).

    • Thanks Lexxie, I am looking forward to the co-blogger which means it'd be less busy 😉 I know, I'm so lucky that I got the signed copy! Thank you lovely, I hope you have a great one too.

  15. I cannot wait to see who your new co-bloggers will be! 🙂 I really hope you're getting some amazing applications. Also thanks for the shout out! You rock 🙂

But I'm so happy that you've gotten Cracked from the library. Please read it. It's really good and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Meda is really awesome. Also This is Not a Test is a great story too. Also I'm so excited about Mockingjay movie. My friend has already planned everything 🙂 Great post, Jeann 🙂

  16. I hope you're getting in some exciting applications from people who want to be your co-bloggers, Jeann!! 😀 I cannot wait to see who'll be added to the team and what they'll have to bring to the mix! 🙂

So I've heard great things about The Discover of Witches series and I had it on my TBR list a while ago… I think it's time to move it up since everyone has been raving about this series and I am pretty excited to see what the hype is all about :DDD

Also yay for nice authors sending you signed copies :DDD Hopefully you'll enjoy the book too! 😀 😀

Great haul, Jeann and I hope you have a FABULOUS week! 🙂
Rashika recently posted…Random Things in Motion #6: Would you hold important information from someone… if it’s for their own good?My Profile

    • Thanks Rashika, I've gotten some great ones but I'm still waiting for a few more to come in before I decide. It should be interesting though! Discovery of Witches is very different to the usual paranormal reads, it's a blend of historical, romance, and time travel which is interesting too. Thank you lovely, have a wonderful week as well!

  17. I am so ridiculously excited for The Giver. ^-^ I was worried at first….but no! It's going to be AWESOME and I like that the author's interviews on it are all really positive too. If the author's happy, I'm usually sure the movie's going to be cool. After all, Cornelia Funke pretty clearly said she hated her movie and lol….it had it's failings. XD Also VERY excited for Mockingjay of course, but I wonder if we're getting a longer trailer?! 1 minute isn't enough! I WANT TO SEE MORE.

    • I know right, I'm really excited about The Giver, it looks awesome! I need to re-read the book before I see the movie but so far I just love it already. I think the trailer for Mockingjay was a teaser one, so you'll definitely see a longer one at some point!

  18. WHERE HAS THIS YEAR GONE?? I swear yesterday it was only January! 😛 A really nice collection of books you have there, Jeann! I am particularly interested in Landline, Masquerade, and Cracked. Best of luck finding a co-blogger/reviewer, too! : )

Oh, I can't wait for your "Landlines" review! I really want to read this. And "Attachments". Rowell is incredible! You've read "Fangirl", yeah? Brilliant!

That quote in "Masquerade" is gorgeous! So jealous 🙂

  20. Ahh I need Landline in that edition! I don't really like US edition, it's not bad but the yellow one looks more interesting!

And Mockingjay trailerrrr, it's so good and especially Katniss' eys when she said "I will". FEELSSS.

I wasn't interested with Giver 1st trailer, but the 2nd one looks more interesting. Makes me want to watch it though I haven't read the book.

Good luck on finding co-blogger Jeann, I'm sure you'll get the right one!

    • Yes, I love the Landline cover I got, it's very eye-catching. I just loved the mockingjay trailer, I watched it a few times! Glad to hear you are more keen on the 2nd Giver trailer. Thanks Ikao!

  21. I had an explosion of a library visit too, whoops! Good look with Landline and Masquerade, I've heard good things about it! Also can't wait to meet some co-bloggers, I think it's a brave thing to do and I commend that bravery so much, so good luck Jean! 😀

  23. I cannot believe how quick this year has gone! Before we know it, Christmas will have passed and it'll already be 2015! I'm still not used to writing 2014 down when I'm writing the date!!

Good luck with finding the perfect co-blogger(s)!

I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed the All Souls trilogy! It's a series that I plan to start. One of these days. Also, Landline! That was so nice of Kylie to offer you a signed copy – and what a beautiful quote (with matching purple pen!)

Also, I really need to read both Attachments and Landline! I love that edition of Landline – the colours work so well together.

I can't wait to see what you think of The Promise of Amazing! I think it sounds rather cute, but I've heard mixed things about it.

The Aussie YA Bloggers newsletter was fantastic! Can't wait for the next one!

And THE MOCKINGJAY TRAILER! I'm very excited for the movie now, but I'm still sort of worried that I'm not going to like it as Mockingjay was my least favourite in the trilogy.
Ebony @ Paperbacks & recently posted…August New ReleasesMy Profile

    • I know right, I just can't believe how quick it is! 2014 seems surreal so far! Thanks Ebony, it's quite a different series but I really enjoyed it. It was definitely lovely of Kylie to offer the copy to me! I love the colours of Landline too. Glad you enjoyed the Aus Ya Bloggers newsletter! How good was the Mockingjay trailer? It looks completely epic.

  24. This year has gone RIDICULOUSLY quickly O_O it'll be Christmas again before we know it, and I'll be in England. Hooray! Although…cold.

Good luck in finding some more Happy Indulgers. Also I loved the most recent newsletter 😀 how nice of the author to send you a copy of Masquerade, the purple pen is so pretty!! This is Not a Test is one I also want to read.
