Indulgence Insider is my version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Jeann

It’s Baack! With Michelle coming on board and my nasty bout of the flu, I’ve been busy (and offline). By now you guys would have met the lovely Michelle, who is the newest resident to Happy Indulgence Books. She’s been awesome so far and I’ve really enjoy having this little ball of energy on board. Check out her introduction and wish her well if you haven’t already.

I uploaded the latest gaming feature, Read Play Blog #2: What is your favourite gaming genre? I’m glad some of you have decided to jump onboard this monthly meme, and for those of you who haven’t yet, it’s not too late to participate until the 16th of September. Tell us your favourite gaming genre, recommendation, what you are currently playing and link back – that’s all there is to it!

Chiara and I also snarked and bitched about the latest VA movie and how I found Dimitri disappointing. Check out our discussion here and here.

I’ve been busy guest posting with Kelly from Diva Booknerd letting me invade her blog with The Falconer review and Roomies review and I guest reviewed Rebel Belle on Chasm of Book’s Summer Bash!

It’s been a busy few bookish weeks for me and I’ll try and keep up with this feature!

Michelle

Hey, y’all! I still can’t believe that I’m participating in this post. When I used to stalk this blog back in the good ol’ days, this was my favourite feature of Jeann’s that I enjoyed reading. Who doesn’t love to look at book hauls, bookish news, and the newest discussion posts all in one? This is simply a masterpiece, if you ask me.

I’ve been really busy lately–I’m on vacation in Florida! Yes, I have visited Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million and will be sharing a few items that I got from there. 😉 Since about about a week ago, I’ve finally been caught up with blogging and reading. I was enjoying myself so much that time flew by so quickly and I didn’t have time for anything! I sure missed the feeling of being organized and free. 🙂

Once I get back to Canada, I hope that I can get my breath of fresh air that will hopefully help me successfully begin reading all of my ARCs and building up my Netgalley acceptance ratio–you don’t even want to know what it currently is, haha.

Jeann has helped me successfully post my first review here on the blog! Far From You, by Tess Sharpe, is a sure new favourite for you. Check it out here!

Also, I’ve just read probably the best book ever. *sings Best Song Ever–bookish edition* AKA, ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER! My review is coming up on Thursday, so stay tuned!

Yes, haha, all of my book haul photos will be featured at the beach. 😉

How We Fall by Kate Brauning – When seeing the cover for this book, I really thought that it’d be about mermaids or sirens. Thankfully, it isn’t! (Mermaid-books despise me.) I’m really looking forward to read this beauty, and thank you so much to the author for the swag, as well!

Diamonds in the Rough by Michelle Madow – I haven’t read The Secret Diamond Sisters when I received this, but I either way was excited because if I did enjoy it, which I did, I can get on straight to the sequel without having to wait! (The diamond ring isn’t part of my haul, but it did go well with the title!)

Thank you to Harlequin Teen and Kate Brauning for these ARCs!

Review copies – digital

Teenager Carrying His Girlfriend22838892cover50450-medium

Contessa by Lori L. Otto – Automatic add to my TBR list. This probably would be a perfect drama idea for a TV show!

Since Forever Ago by Olivia Besse – Aw, look at that adorable couple! *squeals* Riley, the protagonist, sounds awesome and strong, and I just can’t wait to meet her in this new addition.

The Elementalists by C. Sharp – Rising sea levels? Droughts? Tornadoes? I love apocalyptic atmospheres in YA, so I know that this is going to be a new favourite. Care to join in to read this with me?

Since You’ve Been Gone by Mary Jennifer Payne – I am auto-approved by this publisher on Netgalley, and when I read about this new YA novel, I sent it to my Kindle right away. I’m so excited to begin it!

Thank you to Wunderland Press, Vook, Diversion Books, and Dundurn for these e-ARCs!

Orphan Black doesn’t really count as a “book,” but I wanted to share the fact that I got it with you guys! The idea sounds like the perfect premise for a sci-fi adventure book, and I can’t wait to watch it! Let me know some of your thoughts of it below! I’m so excited for Gone Girl, especially since it’s becoming a movie?, if I’m not mistaken. 🙂

Star Crossed was actually a gift from Jennifer Echols! Thank you! I won it through a Twitter giveaway, but it was part of the photo, so why take it out? I also got some bookmarks, too! I went to Barnes & Noble and got the beautiful Magnolia! Isn’t it supposed to be a Romeo and Juliet retelling? Yes, and the moment we’ve all been waiting for– I GOT ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER! It was the last copy *squeals* and I read it in a day. I can’t wait to share my thoughts on it with you guys!

  1. Sorry to hear you've been sick, Jeann.

You both got some great books! All those eARC'S Jeann, how are you going to read them all? The 100 looks interesting, I've seen it on everyone's book haul lists but I haven't heard of it. Will go and look up now.

Love how you take pictures of your books in places Michelle 🙂

I'm hoping to see If I Stay soon, I won free tickets on twitter which was awesome. The trailer looks so good so I have high hopes for it.

  2. Wow, it does get addictive doesn't it Charlotte? Haha I read a few books a week I guess, could be faster but I appreciate my long bus rides to work. Fair enough, I love all RM books (mostly) so it was a disappointment. Thank you lovely!

  3. Thanks Kelly, I'm actually quite intrigued by Trial by Fire so it's on my immediate TBR, I love a good YA fantasy. I haven't read the series yet but I've read More Than This and it was fantastic.

  4. Incredible haul this week girls, geez that's a lotta books. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you think of Trial By Fire, I've seen a few reviews around with the general opinion of it being a bit on the meh side, so I hope that isn't the case. That Patrick Ness set is gorgeous! It'll look stunning on your awesome shelves. Have you read The Knife of Letting Go? I've only read More than This, but totally loved it.

I tell you Michelle, I'd kill for a few hours of that gorgeous sunshine at the moment. Urgh, it's been so bloody cold. If you blow really hard, maybe you could send some this way <3

  5. Hi Jeann and an extra special warm welcome to Michelle!

How are you? Sorry I haven't been around much lately but my computer is fixed now which means I get to stare at your lovely blog for hours. I'll check out your VA discussion now because I have to agree, I wasn't that red hot on Dimitri. Jeann, Geek Girl is such a fun read so I hope you enjoy it. Michelle, I'm so jealous of your Isla copy. Stephanie Perkins is an absolute legend and I need my hands on this pronto. Love this feature and the round-up (I had no idea there was a Sydney comic-con, I wanna meet Orlando and various Buffy cast). Happy Reading 🙂

    • Thanks Sunny, I'm so glad you are back! Thanks for checking it out, Dimitri was the one that disappointed me the most for that one. Glad to hear Geek Girl is awesome! YES I am going to meet Orlando, Buffy and Veronica Mars cast 🙂

  6. Wow, great haul lovelies!! I'm so excited to read Trial by Fire. Still must read that soon…. I'm super excited for Red Queen and Liars Inc. Ooh the Patrick Ness series looks lovely. Michelle you've got Isla!!!! LUCKY. Enjoy your books; I can't wait to read the reviews!

  7. Wow, that's one amazing haul. I recently read Ugly Love and really enjoyed it, Hoover's books haven't disappointed me yet. I only just reviewed Trial by Fire and I ended up loving that one, I struggled a tiny bit in the beginning but then I just couldn't put it down. I am dying to get my hands on book 2 now though. How We Fall and Isla and the Happily Ever After are two books I am excited to read myself, I have HWF as an eARC, just need to hurry up and buy Isla. I hope you both enjoy your reads this week :0

I'm really excited to see both Gone Girl and If I Stay, I loved the If I Stay book and really enjoyed Gone Girl. I think it will be interesting to see how both of them work on the big screen.

  8. Hahahah. The clicking frenzy has plagued us again. Within a few weeks, I already have 15 ARCs to read and review. But it's nothing compared to your ARC haul, Jeann. Are you still sleeping? Or are you an extremely fast reader? The Chaos Walking Paperback bundle is really looking good. <3 I also have the Red Queen and can't wait to start reading it. As for the Gameboard of the Gods, I've made a firm decision not to pick it up. I love Richelle Mead but the synopsis didn't appeal to me. 😀

Oh, Michelle. Good to know that you had a lot of fun in Florida. I get you about the review ratio in Netgalley. It's one of the first things that immediately worried me after I got back from hiatus.

Have fun reading all your haul, ladies!

  9. WOW, you've both been getting some really awesome books this week! Jeann, I thought The Immortal Crown was better than Gameboard of the Gods, so hopefully, you'll enjoy it more, too.

Ugly Love *cries just thinking about it!!* so amazing 🙂

I just finished watching the 2nd season of Orphan Black with my oldest daughter, and we are big fans of this show. It's really well done.

Have fun with your new acquisitions 🙂

Oh my, so many awesome books!

Can't wait to hear your thought son Ugly Love, Jeann! I need to check out Colleen Hoover soon, for realz.

And Michelle, YAY ORPHAN BLACK. Now that season two is all out, I'm binge watching it with my friend, haha. It's so amaaaaaazing. And yay, Isla! The beach looks awesome!

  11. Sorry to hear you had the flu Jeann, I hope you feel better now. Do you already know what the next topic for Read Play Blog will be? I like to start early on my post. I had so much fun participating this month!

You both got some interesting books this week! And enjoy your vacation Michelle!

  12. haha Jeann, you are not alone. Whenever Harper puts up a new batch of eARCs on Edelweiss, I'm like *downloads everything*. Autoapproval is both a blessing and a curse…at least all the new ARCs don't come out until next year, so we have plenty of time to get them all read. SO EXCITED TO GET TO RED QUEEN. I mean, dayum, that cover.

AKJSDHFLASDF ISLA IS SO GOOD OMG. Also the bit at the end with the Anna/Lola cameos MY GOD SO MUCH FLAILING. Stephanie Perkins <3

    • Yes, so many books, so little time, Joy! I literally have my review copy pile sprawling out of control, but of course I keep getting more books. .-. LOL that's a good thing too, I guess… IF I STAY WAS AMAZING. I will be writing a raving review here, so stay tuned. ;D My Netgalley ratio is so low because I have so much to read from there, but of course dumb me keeps on requesting, haha. Thank you! xx

  13. A really nice stack of books you guys have here! I, too, have a copy of Trial By Fire — which I'm super super excited for considering I've heard some quite good things about the novel. I'll be really interested to see what you think of it! I've just started it and am quite enjoying it. Personally I wasn't a fan of Frozen — but I do hope you like it. I just think it wasn't really my thing! But you've got a lot of digital copies there so you're bound to enjoy at least some. 😉

Great post! I didn't realize there was another Gone Girl trailer out.

  15. Wooow! That's a lot of ebooks, Jeann. XD I downloaded Frozen too because, heh, read nows are hard to resist. I've heard not-so-good things about it though, which is a bummer. Still. I'm keen! (Just have to stop seeing Let it gooo in my head. *ahem*)

Michelle: OMG YOU HAVE ISLA?!! *fangirls* I can't wait to read that one! I hope you ahve an awesome holiday. Yayyyy for sunshine. It has been raining for 3 days where I live. Non. stop. I'm going a little bit batty, but I am getting lots of reading in. 😉

Hope you have a good week, both of you! XD

    • Hehe yes, those Read Nows and everything are great 😀 Oh my gosh since you've mentioned it I've had it stuck in my head! (BTW unrelated but you HAVE to watch the Honest Trailers version of Frozen LOL)

  16. Those are great books ladies! The paperback set of Patrick Ness books are gorgeous, look beauty ever from the spines. And glad you like Rebel Belle beacuse I've been wanting to get that book XD

Looks like you had a great vacation in Florida, Michelle! I like the way you modelling the book in a photo, it looks awesome!

  17. Looks like some great books ladies! I can't wait to see what you think of 'Ugly Love' and 'The Book of Days' Jeann – I've had my eye on them for a while but I'm not sure whether I'm going to get to them anytime soon (unless they are TOTALLY awesome, which they might be). I've been trying to stop myself from requesting ecopies since my immediate TBR is massive already, but it's great to see you have so many books to choose from 🙂

  18. There is so much awesome in this post I can't even keep up with it all!!! Jeann, that cover of Geek Girl is so lovely – unfair that authors get TWO awesome covers 😛 I got The Rapunzel Dilemma as well and I loovvveeeddd The Cinderella Moment so I can't wait to read it. And you're so lucky Michelle! That cover of Diamonds in the Rough looks so cool. I personally love it a lot better than the Aussie covers. I hope you enjoy the first book. You just have to go into knowing that the girls are the most stupid people you'll ever meet. 😀

Jeann ~ Yay for e-arcs! I may go back and get a couple more from Edelweiss (like The Last Time We Say Goodbye).

Michelle ~ How We Fall looks like such a good book. So does Magnolia!
