Indulgence Insider #7 – Big News: Jeann’s a Panelist!

August 31, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

I HAVE SOME SUPER EXCITING NEWS FOR YOU ALL. I have been invited by the Brisbane Libraries to speak at their Love YA Festival as a panelist! I’ll be with other Brisbane based bloggers, and the panel discussion will be led by author Steph Bowe, who is the author of Girl Saves Boy. Next week is going to be big, I’ll try and get my session filmed and share it with you guys. I hope I can see some of you there (and for the rest, I know you’ll be there in spirit)! Here’s the details.

At the Love YA Festival, I’ll be meeting heaps of YA Authors, including LAINI TAYLOR, Amie Kaufman, Sean Williams, Diana Sweeney, A.J. Betts and Kirilee Barker. I’m so excited guys! Here’s the details on the authors that I guest posted on Brisbane Libraries ibrary site.

I’m also going to Oz Comic Con and meeting Orlando Bloom and Jason Dohring (Logan from Veronica Mars)! Hopefully, I’ll get a photo with them. I’m so excited – I don’t know how I’m going to survive next weekend!

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall – I’ve heard so many awesome things about this quirky book and I can’t wait!

I also bought some board games – Once Upon a Time is a storytelling card game where you have to talk about the objects/characters/etc. that you have in your hand, and Dixit 3 is an expansion to an amazingly fun picture storytelling game 🙂 I thought they would be relevant.

This week has really been relaxing for me—since it is the official last week of summer before school starts. *sighs* I’m going to be a freshman in high school, and I have to admit that I’m pretty afraid for the new beginning and all, I’ll feel like I have a bigger commitment. Elementary school was pretty much a breeze, so I’m ready to handle the larger portions of homework and responsibility. It’s just—I’m not ready to be a newbie, haha!

I arrived back home from my vacation on Sunday night, and I’m actually happy to be back home. I can finally get to all of my priorities smoothly without any hassle and worrying about time—at least for the period until school starts. (But I’ll be able to manage anything.) I didn’t read that much in Florida, so I’m trying my best to get through my ASAP reads for blog tours and all that.

As you can see below, I’ve gained a lot of books and swag through this week. A lot of the things were waiting for me at home, while others just came to me recently in the past few days. I’ve been a HUGE Netgalley/Edelweiss hoarder, and I’m so excited with my new reads! (I just wish that I had more time for them all…)

I’ve also raved about Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins here! I’m so glad to have found that many of you lovelies have picked it up and adored it! High-five to you all!

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster, Sky Pony Press, Feiwel and Friends, Doubleday Children’s Books, Algonquin Young Readers, Little Brown Books and HarperTeen for these e-ARCs!

The Rosie Project – I normally don’t read a lot of adult books obviously compared to amount of YA that I read, but some of them, like Attachments by Rainbow Rowell are fantastic, and I love them just as much as YA. The atmosphere sure is different, but the cuteness is just as believable. I’ve been wanting to hook up onto The Rosie Project for a long time, and this is my chance!

Not That Kind of Girl by Siobhan Vivian – This is a new print of the book, but it’s actually an oldie in fact. I’ve read The List and her pretty two books in the Burn For Burn trilogy with Jenny Han, and she’s a great author. I’m really excited for this one! (The cover reminds me of going back to school though. *shivers*)

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. ArmentroutI ADORED LUX—at least the first two books, for now. So I went to the B&N in Florida and looked for anything Jen Armentrout, and this is the beauty that I found! I’m so excited for some demon-sexiness.

Thank you so much to Lori M. LeeGretchen McNeil, and Cecil Castellucci for these goodies! I’m so excited to read Vessel and Tin Star which were contest-wins! 😀

  1. So exciting, Jeann! Congratulations, and I hope it goes really swell! If I was closer I'd certainly come along and see it, and it sounds like you've got a ton of fun events coming up! I hope they're all simply wonderful and will hope to see some sort of recap post here in the future. ( :

  2. Jeann: Congratulations on becoming a panelist, Jeann – what a fantastic opportunity! I hope you have a blast!

I met Laini last night, and it was such an amazing experience! Amie was there as well, and I would've loved to meet her, but was quite pressed for time, so unfortunately I wasn't able to thank her for co-writing an amazing book.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your reviews for Afterworlds and The Cemetery Boys and also A Little Something Different.

Michelle: Ooh, looking forward to seeing your thoughts on Winterspell, The Walls Around Is, Trial By Fire and The Iron Trial. Ooh, and Gates of Thread and Stone!
Ebony @ Daring Damse recently posted…Book Review – Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini TaylorMy Profile

    • Thank you Ebony, I'm so glad to hear that Laini and Amie were really fun to meet! That would have been amazing. Thank you lovely, I'm planning on reading Afterworlds and A Little Something Different this month so that will be awesome. Oz Comic Con will be amazing, but it will be a busy weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

  3. JEANN!

    That's AMAZING!

I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! And I seriously hope you get a chance to film it so the rest of us who live too far to attend (I am sorry I cannot swim across oceans) will get a chance to see you shine! 😀 Plus there are also going to be amazing authors at the event so it's a double win!

And Idk if we can be friends anymore because I am green with envy that you'll get to meet Orlando Bloom. ORLANDO BLOOM. *cries* YOU BETTER GET A PICTURE WITH HIM, J OR ELSE *shakes fist*

Michelle! Yay for starting high school! It's going to be an amazing time of your life as you're growing up and things will be great! ALSO all those amazing authors coming to Canada too. I am completely jealous of you and J for getting to meet such amazing people!

Great haul ladies and have a GREAT week!
Rashika recently posted…Random Things in Motion #9: Bad BoysMy Profile

    • Thank you so much Rashika! I am super, super excited to be chatting about books, meeting awesome authors and ORLANDO BLOOM. I mean how am I supposed to handle all of that excitement? I'll definitely post at least photos for you guys! AND YES. ONE DOES NOT ATTEND A Comic Con without taking a photo with the celebrities.

  4. JEAN THAT'S SO AWESOME! I hope you have a super fun time as a panelist. Obviously you will reblog about it later, right? And then look at all these cons you're going to. I AM JEALOUS hahaha!

And Michelle, a freshman in high school? I wish you the best of luck! It was a big transition, but WOW you are so young haha!

It looks like both of you got a ton of books this week! I hope you have fun reading them!

  5. Oooooh I'm so jealous Jeann!! Orlando Bloom?! Any chance you could steal him for me and send him off to Perth??

You've got a pretty awesome week ahead of yous, have fun and enjoy the beginnings of Spring!!! 🙂

  6. @Jeann, that's so awesome you're going to speak at the Love YA Festival! I hope you'll be able to film it! Sounds like have an exciting week ahead :).

@Michelle, good luck being a freshman. My freshman year was terrible, I have to say I am glad to have all those school years behind me, although now I do have more responsibilities and miss the school days where you only had to worry about homework.

You both got some great looking books, I hope you'll enjoy them!
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #89My Profile

    • Thank you, Lola! *sighs* Ah it's not the fact that I don't like school—I love it with the work and all (most people would be yelling at me if they heard me say that haha) but the nervousness and transition fears me the most. For the other parts, I'm ready! Thank you, have a great week!

      • I actually didn't mind the studying and homework part of school (although I really struggled my languages courses), but the social part. Being an introvert and trying to finding a place to belong was hard for me the first few years of high school. I only think I really felt comfortable in my own skin once I started uni. The transition and nervousness when starting a new school are the worst, I hate not knowing what to expect and am happy when those first few weeks are over. Good luck!

    • Yes we did, Charnell—I agree! Oh, yay! All I've heard is great and positive things about Trial by Fire! I'm ready to adore it! 😀 I began watching The 100 TV show and it's amazing! I've recently purchased the whole season so I can binge-watch it all! I'm excited to read the two books, but I've heard that they're not as good as the show. Hmm.. 🙂

  7. YOU'LL BE ON A PANEL AND ALL AMAZING AND WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU, JEANN! AND WHAT??? YOU'LL BE MEETING ORLANDO BLOOM? *CRIES* I've read two chapters from Afterworlds and it's really intriguing. I hope we both love this story 🙂 And yay fror Love and Other Theories! It looks so cute 😉 A Little Something Different is really different indeed lol based on all the reviews. I hope you enjoy it 🙂 Oh yeah, Michelle! I feel your pain. I'm not excited about starting my masters program since it's been all work this summer 🙁 And now it's school and WHERE IS MY REST, I ASK YOU? UGH. Good luck with HS! 🙂 You'll do awesome, I'm sure 🙂 Eeep! I have Perfect Couple too. WE BETTER ENJOY IT OR ELSE LOL. And yess for Winterspell. It looks so good! And 've heard great things about Trial of Fire so enjoy 🙂 Ha, I have WHK too, but I dare not read it just yet until all the books are out since love triangle *headdesk* Such an exciting week for you girls. Happy reading <33
Siiri recently posted…Review: Come Back to Me by Mila GrayMy Profile

    • Ah, but at least you're a very hard worker, lovely! Thank you! I'm literally thinking about it 24/7 but I'm sure everything'll be fine and the transition will go smoothly. Elementary school to HS? That's major craziness. I'm about to begin Biggest Flirts, so let's hope that it will be amazing! Jennifer Echols's books go either way for me, so *crosses fingers*. OMG Trial by Fire is so raved about, so yay for that, although I didn't enjoy the author's other trilogy, Starcrossed. Ohh, love triangle? Come on, Jennifer Armentrout! She did fine in the Lux series with just Daemon and his selfishness, LOL. Thanks, hun! <3

  8. That is so exciting Jeann! I heard about this panel earlier today and so wish that I could go 🙁 Have lots of fun, and if you can get a video of it that would be awesome.

You got Afterworlds! Can't wait to read that one it sounds so amazing.

That Once Upon A Time game looks pretty cool.

Love the pictures of your books in the garden Michelle 🙂 I almost requested The Iron Trial but I want a physical copy of it so I didn't worry about it.

  9. Wow…lots of exciting things going on this week! I've got Kiss Kill Vanish for review, but I'm not as excited about it as I was when I first received it. I also have The Iron Trial. I've never read Holly Black before, but I love Cassandra Clare so I'm intrigued. Have a great week!

    • I agree, Sandy! I'm in for anything Cassie Clare, even if it's middle grade. 🙂 The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black is really raved about, but I haven't gotten to pick it up yet. I'm hoping that The Iron Trial will be gorgeous and lush! Thanks!

    • Thank you—I'm crossing my fingers that I will, but I'm sure everything will go smoothly. 🙂 Oh, White Hot Kiss wasn't that good? Hm… I guess we'll have to see! I've read mixed reviews all over the place, so it'll either go one way or the other for me, haha!

  10. Ooooh, big CONGRATS Jeann! That is so exciting!! I cannot wait to hear all about your amazing experience as a panelist!! And Laini Taylor is gonna be there!! I'm beyond jealous!! =D Cannot wait to see all the photos and read all about it!

Michelle! Being a newbie is never cool, but I'll sure you'll manage great and your freshman year will be fantastic! Just remember, being a newbie is a bit annoying at times, but experiencing something for the first time is always unique, like reading a brilliant book for the first time!

Happy reading to both of you ladies!
Pili recently posted…Friday Reads: Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre!!My Profile

    • Aw, Pili! Your comment seriously made my day—you're an amazing person! :') Those brilliant words of yours sure aren't going to leave my head this whole time. Thank you, thank you, thank you! <3 Bookish/blogging friends are always the best to get advice from.. 🙂

  11. CONGRATULATIONS, Jeann! Such an awesome opportunity. Ha, if only Australia is a few kilometers away then I would definitely go to this Festival. OMG! Amie Kaufman will be there???! *swoon* Looking forward to your post about the said festival. <333

Harper Collins totally rocks! I have exercised extreme restraint not to go on a downloading frenzy. I still need to get Polaris, however. And Once Upon a Time is so kawaii. <333

And Michelle, your pretties awesome as well. Curious about Winterspell and Trial By Fire. Both have interesting premises but the mixed reviews are discouraging me to pick them up. 😀

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy all of your books, ladies! Jeann, congrats again! And Michelle, good luck to starting high school. It's definitely a new phase of your academic life but trust me, it is really fun. 😀 If I have to choose between elementary, high school and uni, I'll choose high school.

    • Thank you so much Charlotte, it seems like we're getting a lot more events lately! THank you hun, I'll definitely take a lot of pics. Haha I am terrible with Edelweiss, I should stay off it, it's like crack! Thanks Charlotte for visiting!

    • I'm so excited for those two, Charlotte! The mixed reviews are actually intriguing me even more haha so I can see which side is wrong or right LOL. Thank you so much! I'm excited for the whole new phase of everything and to meet new people! <3

  12. Jeann, what an exciting news! Congratulations 😀 It's always funny to see the Harper downloading sprees, haha. I also have Beware the wild, I hope it's as creepy as the cover 🙂 And WINTERSPELL, lucky you. I got declined a couple of times so I gave up, but I'm very excited. Happy reading!

  13. Awesome haul's this week girls, and congratulations again on your panel invite Jeann, knock 'em dead kiddo.

It seems there's so many YA based events going on around the country at the moment, it's awesome. I don't think YA novels have been more popular than they are right now.

I love Michelle's book bush, I wish I had a garden that grew books too 😛

Have a great week ladies <3
Kelly recently posted…The Diva Weekender #005My Profile

    • Thank you Kelly, I'm so excited for the opportunity! I read an article that said HarperCollins said YA has been at an all time high and I'm really excited about it. So you are ont hemoney there.

  14. I was going to this session, but my husband has a bucks day and I have to look after the kids. I really should get someone to look after them. I'm super anxious, though, when I hear anything about BWF. I guess I figure I should be going to meet everyone I can seeing that I'm trying to get published, but I'm too freaked out. I'm even nervous about going to the Sunday session to see Laini! It's a curse! Good luck. That is so exciting for you. Are you nervous? I would die. Put in a good word with all the publishers for you fellow PKCer 🙂

    • Ah, that's a shame Lorelle, it would have been nice to meet you! It would be really good for you to go and meet publishers and writers I think 🙂 I'm going to see Laini too. Haha ask me on the day and I'll see how I'm feeling. Thanks lovely!

  15. Wow! Congratulations on being a panelist Jeann! What a great opportunity! I can't wait to hear all about it! 😉 And wow! Holy smokes – what a great haul Jeann! 😀 Looking forward to your thoughts on all of these – especially Lies I Told Myself and The Memory Key as those sound quite intriguing.

And Michelle…aww! I feel you! 🙁 I hope your transition back to school goes smoothly and that you enjoy all your new teachers. And good luck with starting high school! What a huge step! I look forward to seeing what you think of The Walls Around Us, Winterspell and The Iron Trial as those are some of my anticipated reads as well!
