Indulgence Insider #8: BEST WEEKEND EVERR

September 14, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Omg guys last week was the BEST WEEKEND EVERR. There is just so much to tell you about the Love YA Festival, meeting Laini Taylor, Amie Kaufman, Sean Williams, K.A. Barker that I just had to write a whole new post about it! I had so much fun on the day, and my panel went really well too.

The day after was OZ COMIC CON where I fell in love with Jason Dohring all over again and got an awesome hug from him and Orlando Bloom. My event recap post for both of these events will be posted next Friday with heaps of photos – Sorry for the suspense, but it will be worth it! Check out some photos on my Instagram.

Read Play Blog will be up next week with the topic: What is your preferred gaming platform? Schedule your posts up for the 16th of September and link back to the post! I’d love to hear what book bloggers love to game on.

Speaking of gaming, I also reviewed the last episode of The Walking Dead Game (Season 2). It was a tear jerker and heart breaker, which is to be expected.

Book Haul

Review copies – physical

Woah, I got a lot of books in the past 2 weeks! Many of these were unsolicited which is exciting.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell – I’ve already purchased this before, but was lucky enough to receive an ARC.
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas – I reviewed this here and I loved it!
The Jewel by Amy Ewing
Wickedpedia by Chris Van Etten – This and Followers look freaking creepy O_O
Followers by Anna Davies
Paper Planes by Allayne L. Webster
Pandora Jones: Deception by Barry Jonsberg – I haven’t read the first one yet, but I know my fellow Aussie bloggers rated it highly.
The Revenge of Seven by Pittacus Lore – I haven’t read the rest of the series yet – but I’ve heard it’s good!
Cooper Bartholomew Is Dead by Rebecca James – Received a final edition to replace my ARC.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner – I totally forgot to put this in my haul! Started reading it in anticipation of the movie.

Thank you to Hachette Australia, Scholastic Australia, Bloomsbury Australia, Allen and Unwin, Penguin Australia and Walker Books Australia for these review copies!

No books in the past 2 weeks (that restraint!) but my Collector’s edition of The Sims 4 arrived. If you don’t hear or see from me on social media, you’ll know what I’m doing.

I was lucky enough to win the Glow prize pack from Hachette Australia and the Not so Literary Heiresses giveaway from Francine!

It’s seriously been an awesome two weeks since we last posted. I’ve begun high school and am having a blast! Sure, the homework and extra work that I need to do takes up a whole extra bunch of time that I normally would use for reading and blogging, but it’s been worth it as well. Over the past two weeks, I am a new person. Sure, that sounds cheesy as heck, but it’s also true.

I went on an orientation trip up north to the cottage country area and stayed at a camp/activity resort for three days and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I met so many new people, and there are many that I am proud to call my close friends.

This was my view for three days. :’) Too bad there weren’t any moments to read. I’d sure enjoy the whole scenery while being stuck in an addicting world!

There, we did so many activities. Think of an activity done in the wilderness and that’s something that was available to do. Zip-lining, hiking, skateboarding, canoeing, roller-blading, rock-climbing, climbing the high ropes, giant swing, there was so much to do and it’s amazing how the school brought everyone together and gave us experiences of a lifetime.

Yes, it has been a slow few weeks for me with hauls and such, but I’ve been happy with everything going on around me. Plus, I have tons of books that I NEED TO READ ASAP. But really, who doesn’t?

  1. AAH, so jealous, Jeann! Glad to hear you had so much fun!! I've been re-watching Veronica Mars, haha.

I love that cover of Landline! Have you had a chance to read it yet? And yeaay Heir of Fire!

Michelle, the view looks fantastic! And I need to check out The Secret Dairy of Lizzie Bennet, too! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!

  2. I also got my Glow swag 🙂 Admittedly, I have no idea what the book is about yet :S I'm such a naughty Aussie writer. I really need to get in touch with the local industry more. I bet Laini was amazing ( saw her on a panel at BWF) – and Orlando Bloom? My goodness, woman; I would have died. And as my daughter would say – but if you died, you wouldn't be able to enjoy it. Like when I say – if I get published, I would die. 😛

    • Yay, glad to hear your Glow swag arrived! It was so much of it, and the poster too. Hehe isn't that why you keep up to date with us on Twitter? Laini was incredibly amazing, which panel were you at? We went to the Unnatural Creatures one, next time we'll have to meet! Oh gosh, I did die when I met both of them, my heart was racing all week lol.

  3. Oh gosh Jeann, how on earth did you not turn into a squealing mess of Fangirlism? They should have just called it Jeann's Heavenly author meet up 😀 That's an awesome haul Jeann, I've just finished The Maze Runner and absolutely loved it! Can't wait for your BWF wrap up, I heard you killed it!

That view is so incredibly lovely Michelle, it sounds like you had a fabulous time. I loved school camps, apart from the shared rooms and farting, gosh, I laughed so hard one night at a sleeping cabin mate that farted in her sleep and was forced to sleep in a corridor. I kid you not.

Have a lovely week ladies <3

  4. Oh my god, a hug from Orlando Bloom? You're a lucky girl, Jeann! I really wish we had cool events like that here in the Philippines, but I'm glad you had fun. I'm definitely going to check out your post-event posts. 🙂 And what a great haul! I love Landline, and Wickedpedia sounds very interesting.

Glad to know that high school is treating you well, Michelle. And what a view! I'm sure you'll have an amazing year. 🙂 I look forward to reading your review of A Little Something Different, been seeing mixed reviews. Haven't read it myself but it's one of the book that I've wanted to read even before its release.

Thank you, girls, for including my post. Glad to be part of the list. 🙂

The Maze Runner is out here in PH this Friday and I'm really excited to see it! And oh, that Harper Coolins YA Blogger Party is on my birthday! Too bad I'm not from Australia. Hahaha!

    Great recap, girls! 🙂

  5. Sims 4!!! I was in college when the first Sims came out and I can't even begin to count how many hours I spent playing that when I should have been studying! I've played 2 and 3 but not as much just because I have more pulls on my time. So much fun though.

Sounds like you had an amazing weekend and a hug from Orlando Bloom?? Amazing!

Great books this week for both of you! Have amazing weeks!

    • Oh my gosh, I've played every single Sims but the one that I got the most into was the Sims 2 with all of the expansions. Every time a new Sims come out it's like we have to start all over again. OH my gosh it was the most amazing experience of my life! Thanks Katherine!

  6. @Jeann, I already have this week's Read Play Blog meme scheduled, it was a fun post to write and am looking forward to read the posts for the other participating bloggers! Do you already know the topic for next month? I am looking forward to read your post about the panel and comic con.

Have fun with the Sims 4! My boyfriend and I are listening some sims music recently it really nice background music when working/studying.

@Michelle, Sounds like you had a great time on that orientation trip and that view looks like the perfect place to sit down with a book! I really like the cover for Arcana, i hope you'll enjoy it!
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #91My Profile

    • Yes! I wish I had the time to sit down and read! It was all go, go, go the whole time! xD It's absolutely one of my favourite covers of the year! I can't wait to see what'll come from it! 🙂

  7. Oh how awesome, thanks so much for sharing my post!!! I really appreciate it!! It looks like you both got a lot of great goodies & books, so jealous!! I really want to read something by Rainbow Rowell, I've heard such great things! Definitely can't wait to read your review of Landline! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  8. I saw your photos with Orlando and Jason and I'm seriously sobbing in my corner right now Jeann. You lucky duck! Gaaah, I'm having a LoVe moment right now.

And yay for the Sims 4. I'm actually not very impressed with it because it took out two of my favourite features – open world and story progression. Let me know if it's good, I see the graphics have greatly improved.

Michelle, you take such amazing book haul photos. I am so lazy I just chuck mine in a stack and snap it like that haha. Good luck with high school!

  9. I've wanted to play Sims for years, but I know what will happen. I'll get obsessed for a month or so and then one day I won't want anything more to do with it. That's how I get with Animal Crossing. lol

Glad you both had such a fun week!

    • Ah, I know! I seriously can't wait to get to them. But of course, at the same time, there is so much to read and so little time! (I find myself saying that often. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad, haha.) Thank you, Kaitlin! <3

  10. Nice haul, you guys!! So many awesome-looking books! I'm especially interested to see what you think of The Jewel, Cooper Bartholomew, and Paper Planes in particular, Jeann. Those are all read in which I'm particularly interested in reading some time. Michelle — I'm curious to know what you make of Let's Get Lost, the concept sounds fantastic… but ever since its release I haven't seen too many high ratings of it. But anyway, enjoy your haul, you guys! 🙂

  11. WOW! Both of you have some amazing hauls! 🙂

Jeann – WOW! What an amazing opportunity you had to meet all those fabulous authors! It sounds like you had a ton of fun, so that's great! Can't wait to read about your experience! (Is there a recap coming by any chance? 😉 ) And I am so excited to see what you think of all those wonderful books! The Jewel has had some pretty mixed reviews from what I've seen, so I'm interested what side of the spectrum you end up falling on. 🙂 And I absolutely love Pittacus Lore's Lorien Legacies series, and I hope you enjoy it too!

Michelle – Congrats on starting high school! 😀 What a big step! I'm so glad to hear you're having fun despite the tedious workload and that you're adjusting well and liking your teachers. 🙂 Add your orientation at the activity resort looks like a blast! Sounds like you had a ton of fun, so yeah for that! Bookwise, I am so excited to see what you think of Let's Get Lost and Lies We Tell Ourselves as they both seem to have quite intriguing premises! 😀

Thanks for sharing ladies, and hopefully next week is just as great for both of you! <33

    • Aww, thank you lovely, and thanks for stopping by! *blushes* It definitely was one of the best experiences of my life. 🙂 Those are the two I was probably the most excited about upon receiving them! Harlequin really does publish amazing books! :'D <3

  12. Wow it does look like you've had an amazing bookish and generally awesome week Jeann! It's so cool that you got to meet those celebs at OzComicCon, and those review copies look great. 🙂 Landline by Rainbow Rowell is something that I'm hoping to read soon, and I hope you enjoy the Pandora Jones book – I've got it to review as well and after the cliffhanger of an ending in the first book I can see things are going to get interesting.

  13. Jeann: OMG WHAT A WEEKEND!!! That's intense and amazing and so many awesome events. 😉 I've enjoyed seeing the pictures on facebook/instagram. And HUZZAH AWESOME BOOKS! Hopefully my copy of Heir of Fire will arrive next week. I wasn't a fan of the Jewel, only because I felt like it ripped-off The Hunger Games. The writing and characters were quite interesting. So there's that. 😉

Michelle: Zip-lining?!! AWESOME. I've wanted to do that in forever, but then especially more after I read Divergent. (Gee, I'm so weird sometimes. >_< All the stuff I ever want to do is somehow connected to a book.) I liked Lies We Tell Ourselves, although it made me sooo angry at humans who are racist. URGH. But it's a good one!
Cait @ Notebook Sist recently posted…Stacking the Shelves #31 || the week of reading rageMy Profile

    • OMG YES. I loved it! Is it weird that when I was doing it I was thinking about Divergent as well? xDD I was Tris, but where was my Four? LOLLL. Oh. Hmm, I'll have to see what my mind will tell me when I read it! I'm hoping that it will be amazing! 😀 <3

  14. Thanks, Jess! It's awesome so far, I can't wait to see what'll come in the future for me! I've heard so much about A Little Something Different, I'm dying to find out what it's all about! Thanks for stopping by! <3

  15. Asdfghjkl! Sims 4! The Collector's Edition too! *gazes longingly* Love the Sims so much. I keep wanting to buy the Sims 4 but am waiting for the price to go down a bit. Plus I've put so much time and money into the Sims 3, le sigh. Such is the way of life 😉 Anyways, awesome books ladies! Sounds like you had a great two weeks, too.
Alise recently posted…My Bookish Seven Deadly SinsMy Profile

    • Thank you Alise, I couldn't help ordering the Collector's edition because I just LOVE gaming swag haha. The little USB thing actually plugs in and lights up according to your sims mood too! I know what you mean, I was like that with Sims 2 and switching to Sims 3 was a big thing. Thank you lovely!

  16. WOW SIMS 4 YOU GOT SIMS 4! Do you know how mad I am right now about Sims 4. So for Sims 3, they had that nice PC/Mac combo, and I used to have a PC then switched over to Mac, which was fine! I pre-ordered the Sims 3 because of that. AND NOW. OH NOW THEY JUST HAVE IT ON PC. Ok I'm done. I'm just super jealous just ignore this hahahaha.

Ok. But anyways, look at that huge book haul! I hope you enjoy Heir of Fire and Landline Jeann!! And Michelle, I"m also reading Lies We Tell Ourselves! I hope we both find it really good!

    • Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you're eager to play it as well! Too bad it's only on PC, I wonder what happened with the Mac. I've played all of them as welll, although with TS3 I didn't really get into the expansions as they were released. So my new start is TS4! Thank you lovely!

  17. Jeann, OMGAAAH Jason Dohring!!! If that doesn't bring back memories of quality past tv then I don't know what does! I'm curious to see what you think of The Jewel! And The Revenge of Seven…I keep seeing that everywhere…perhaps I should just cave and read it!

Congrats on high school, Michelle! What a journey it'll be. You've got some super exciting reads lined up! I can't wait to here your thoughts on A Little Something Different!

So she went and stole it from my TBR, but hey, I have SO many books to read 🙂 I really want to read Cooper Bartholomew is Dead, that's for sure!

I hope you both have a lovely week 🙂
