Indulgence Insider #9: 900 Bloglovin Followers & A Wild Heir of Fire Appears!

September 21, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider, Weekly Memes

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: This week Happy Indulgence reached 900 Bloglovin followers! I am in total awe, thank you so much everyone for the continued support! We’re partying here, and eating cake.

GAH, it’s been a busy, busy week for me! I’ve been working late at work most nights so I’ve been mostly sleeping, eating, working, rinse and repeat. I don’t know what I would do without scheduled posts – and Michelle! I did get the chance to watch The Giver movie though and it was brilliant, emotional and thought provoking. They did very well with it on screen, even though it highlighted some glaring conveniences (like being able to transfer memories through touch).

I also bought a new phone from the ebay Australia 15% off sale this week, come to mama my new Sony Xperia Z2 (PURPLE)!

Our Read Play Blog gaming meme is up for another month, it’s not too late to join in with the question: What is your preferred gaming platform?

Book Haul

Review copies/Swapped

One More Chance by Abbi Glines – I haven’t read the rest of the series unfortunately.

Screwdrivered by Alice Clayton – This cover and name makes me laugh lol!

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers – I swapped this with a spare copy of Knife of Letting Go on YA Book Exchange, I’ve been wanting to read this forever!

That’s it for me this week folks!

Hello, hello! I truly must say that Indulgence Insider & Stacking the Shelves are my favourite memes of the week, especially since I can share what I’ve received with you all… and so I can stalk my bloggy buddies and see what they were up to during the week as well! xD

This week has been a pretty ordinary time for me. Nothing much going on! School’s been okay (although the amount of tests that are popping up has been struggling at times…) and I wish I could be reading more! *throws hands in the air* But, whatever… Blogging’s been keeping me sane!

I’m really excited because today (or tomorrow as I’m writing this) I might be going to a huge literary book festival in Toronto! Authors like Megan Crewe, and Lesley Livington will be there, and I seriously need to gear up! I won’t talk about it too much… Because I’m not sure if I’m going—yet. THANK YOU FOR 900 FOLLOWERS GUYSSSS! I love you all! (But it’s all thanks to you and Jeann, tee hee)

Book Haul

Review copies – digital

The Orphan Queen is actually a sampler… But I might be getting a REVIEW COPY soon!

Is that… Is that HEIR OF FIRE hiding in the bushes? YES IT IS! I’m reading this ASAP—NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SERIES!

Sanctum – Ahhh sequel time! Asylum was actually one of the best horror stories I’ve ever read, and it even inspired me to write a speech on the subject of asylums last year! I am so ready for late night nightmares and photos that will creep me to death!

Dear Nobody – Did you ever go to the bookstore and just picked up a book and went to buy it without even looking up ratings or wanting to buy it beforehand? That’s exactly what happened here. I just have a feeling in my guts that I will love it!

Breathe, Annie, Breathe – Okay, if you know me from my other blog, A Thousand Lives Lived, then you will know that I am a HUGE Miranda Kenneally fan. I loved every single book from this series, and the cover of this one is the best yet! Although summer is practically over here, I’m getting myself ready for a gorgeous chick-lit!

So now that I am officially obsessed with Michelle Madow and her writing…. I am going to go ahead and read her first series soon, that was actually inspired by Taylor Swift’s video for Love Story! How cool is that? And guess what, guys? REMEMBRANCE IS FREE ON AMAZON! So yeah, I’m excited. *grins like a weirdo*

    • Thank you lovely, one day it will come hopefully hehe. I am so proud to be one of your favourites lovely! Yeah, I am loving the purple, one of my favourite colours lol XD Have a lovely week ahead!

  2. Ahhhh thank you, lovely! *sends virtual hugs back with cupcakes* I got to go, thanks to your amazing full-of-luck finger-crossing! <3 It was SO much fun! Hehe, for my first time going to a bookish-event, I'd say that it was very impressive, and so was my haul! I can't wait to share my haul next week! xD Asylum is absolutely recommended—it was better than Miss Peregrine's! 😀 xx

  3. Thanks a lot, Pili! <3 *eats them all saving none for Jeann* xDD I'm kidding Jeann, you can have them all.. Oh gosh! Everyone's been telling me that! I've really got to brace myself for this powerful storm! *strokes the book* ;D

  4. I know, right? I was really surprised that I didn't get any nightmares… at least that I know of, haha. Oh, yes! Even if Miranda wrote 30 books in the series, I'd still go out and say, "Read them all!" xDD Thank you so much, Valerie!

  5. Thanks a million! <3 I was the happiest person alive when realizing it! x) Ahh I normally don't read samplers because then I'll be even in more agony until the book is released, but come on—it's Jodi Meadows. I NEED TO READ IT, SAMPLE OR NOT. XDDD I'm so excited! xx

  6. THANK YOU! <3 I love both editions—they're so breathtaking and I literally can't keep my eyes off my copy! It's the most pretty thing on my shelf, currently! Incarnate was fantastic, the whole trilogy basically was—I'm sure The Orphan Queen will be the same! I heard some things about assassins… I'm hooked!

  7. Thanks, Joy! It was sooo much fun! I can't wait to share photos next week! It's basically the first bookish-event I've ever been to, so the whole thing is new to me! I can't wait for a book fair in November! *squeals when hearing that Gayle Forman is attending* <33

  8. *parties* Having it in my own hands is a milestone, I tell you! xD Miranda Kenneally's books are all so awesome, I'm so looking forward to see what this one holds in store! *lurks for some cute romance* Thank you, Kaitlin! <3

  9. WHO DIDN'T? That book is pure horrifying-genius! SAME! I actually gave them both the same rating (4.5, I think?) but I really prefer Asylum. Miss Peregrine's sequel wasn't all too impressive, either. :/ THHHHAAANKKK YOUUU lovely! I'm gearing and bracing myself for it. Darn I don't want another book hangover! (Although those do show that books are even more amazing than what we know of…)

    Thanks, hun! <33333

  10. Congrats on reaching 900 followers on Bloglovin'! AND GRAVE MERCY, YES YES YES!

I'm reading Heir of fire at the moment; it is glorious. It's even better than you could ever imagine.

    Happy reading 😀

  11. Congrats on all of the new followers!! I'm so excited that you get to read Grave Mercy, I really hope you like it! It's definitely one of my favorite series right now.

I want to read The Giver before I see it, so I'll probably wait until it comes out and just buy the blu-ray.

I hope you both have a lovely week!

    • Thank you so much Allie, I didn't even realise until Michelle let me know lol! Glad to hear you love Grave Mercy, I've only heard good things. I hope you will enjoy the Giver, it was fantastic. You too Michelle!

  12. Jess and I watched The Giver a little while ago too. I really didn't know what to expect going into the movie but I enjoy it 🙂

We actually just went and saw the Maze Runner movie in theaters today. I thought it was good but my sister read all of the books and really didn't like the movie lol. She said it was nothing like the book. I think you had plans to watch it too. Did you like it?
Stephanie@ThesePaper recently posted…7 Deadly Sins TagMy Profile

    • Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie Steph! I loved it as well. Hmm I'm really interested in seeing the Maze Runner even more now to see what I think of it! Interesting how you guys both have divided opinions. Did you read the book beforehand? I'm going to see it this weekend, so will let you know.

  13. Congratulations to the 900 followers, ladies! *throws confetti* What about beer? XD

Jeann- I feel you about work. If it's even possible to just trade book reviews and reading hours for money then I would gladly leave my work and just read all I can. I hope you can still find some time to relax. OMG! I am so happy that you enjoyed The Giver. I enjoyed it, too. The Giver is my first dystopian read and one of my first fav books, and I was so happy that the filmmakers really made an effort to stay true to the book. Jeff Bridges played his part well as Jonas. The ending was exciting and at the same time, annoying. Argh, I hope the film will earn enough money to make the second film because that ending didn't let me rest.

And BTW, I still have to read Clayton's Wallbanger. XD Screwdrivered already sounds good just from the title alone. Nyahahaha!

Michelle- Glad to know that school's fine. I'm glad that blogging is helping you a lot in coping up with the pressure. I am so thankful that I didn't download the Orphan Queen. I really don't do samplers. At least, you are getting an actual review copy. And I have already purchased Heir of Fire 2 weeks ago. I hope we'll both enjoy it and yeah, I also hope that it's better than the awesome Crown of Midnight.

I hope you have a good week, ladies!

    • Thanks Charlotte, I am so proud to have reached such a big goal! I feel the same about The Giver and they both did really well in the film. It stayed true to the book and really captured the tone of the story, I was feeling emotional all the way through. Does Gathering Blue actually answer the cliffhanger though? I haven't read it yet. I have to read Wallbanger as well, it just sounds so hilarious hehe XD

      • Gathering Blue features another main character, a female protag named Kira, and Jonas is practically absent. The ending only hinted that Jonas is still alive. There's more of Jonas in book 3, The Messenger, though. But things might change if the filmmakers decide to adapt book 2 into a movie.

  14. Ahh so many books I don't even know where to begin girls! I hope you make lots of reading time for them and know I'm completely jealous 😉 haha xx

  15. @ Jeann Congrats on the 900 bloglovin followers! That's an amazing number to reach! Sounds like you had a busy week, I hope this week will be a bit less busy. I own Grave Mercy, but haven't read it yet. I heard great things about it though. And I love the cover!

@Michelle, I hope you have a fun at the literary book festival!

I hope you both enjoy your new books and have a fun week!

    • Thanks Lola, I was in awe when Mich said we were nearly there! Wow! I've heard great things about Grave Mercy too, and with the sequel coming out, it's probably a good time to pick it up now. You too Lola!

  16. WOHOOOOOO! Congrats on 900 :D!! You both definitely deserve it! I'm sending virtual hugs x

Jeann, you've just reminded me of how much I need to read Grave Mercy. That's definitely top priority now!

And, Michelle! I can't wait to here what you think of The Orphan Queen. Judging from the sampler, it's going to be one hell of a good book!

I hope both of you have a fabulous upcoming week! Happy reading x

  17. Wooohoooo!! BIG CONGRATS on the 900 followers ladies!! *sends celebratory cupcakes*

Jeann, I can't believe you hadn't tead Grave Mercy yet!! It's an absolutely amazing book and I hope that work won't be so awfully busy so you can read it soon!

Michelle, HEIR OF FIIIIIREEEE!! What a brilliant book!! I'm sure you're gonna love it to pieces!! It's amazing and I want it to be longer!

  18. I LOVE the Angel Sight series Mich, book one was a total surprise for me as I usually don't click with angelic themed books. I have to grab a copy, I've actually been waiting for it to be released. I hope you have more luck with Grave Mercy than I did Jeann, it's so beautifully written, but historical isn't really my thing and I abandoned it only a quarter of the way through.

I wish my bushes grew books.

Wait, that sounded dirtier than intended.

    Carry on.

  19. Congratulations on 900 bloglovin' followers, guys! That's so crazy and monumental – and all very well-deserved. *BIG HUGS*

Jeann: It sucks that you've been so busy this week, but at least you were able to take a break and relax while watching The Giver – I'm glad you enjoyed it overall. I hope you enjoy your new phone, too!

I can't wait to see what you think of Grave Mercy!

Michelle: Ooh, the literary book festival sounds as though it'd be great – crossing my fingers that you're able to go! I hope you love Sanctum – I really need to check out Asylum – it sounds right up my alley.

  20. Oh I LVOED Asylum!! I way preferred it to Miss Peregrine's actually (I know they get compared a lot because it's a similar freaky premise with the old pictures inside too), so I'm quite keen for Sanctum. GOOD LUCK, MICHELLE, WITH HEIR OF FIRE. It reduced me to a sobbing heap.

And congrats on the 900 followers! WOOOHOOO!! YOU BOTH DESERVE IT.
