We got tagged by Cait from Notebook Sisters, Rachel from A Perfection Called Books, and Laura from Laura Plus Books for the TBR Tag! Thought it would be fun to talk about the ever looming TBR and show you our piles.
How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Jeann: I keep all my ARCs on one bookshelf, separate from all my other reads. I also keep track of my “to-review” and “to-read” books on Goodreads, and use a list to track my reading for the next month. What would we do without Goodreads?
Pile? We’re talking about shelf here. I have never ever had just a TBR “pile” before, haha! (This is 1/10000 of the shelf, LOLOL)
To keep track of what I want to read and all, I use Goodreads. I know many other similar sites, but really once you begin adding what you have and want to have, it’ll become your #1 source and you won’t want to change to anything else. I use the “scan” feature a lot too on the mobile app! I think that GR is what most people’ll answer with this question!
Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?
Jeann: Definitely print. Almost half of the books on my shelf are on my TBR which I haven’t read yet, because I keep on picking up new books D: I really should go on a book buying ban. But my eBook TBR is pretty massive as well. And behold, my TBR shelf with ARCs…
Michelle: What do you think?
*awes at its beauty* This is only half of my whole product of pretties. There’s two more shelves under!
I anyways prefer having physical books than ebooks on my Kindle. But books are books, and I treat them all the same, haha. <3
How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Jeann: I’m an emotional reader, so I usually pick up what I feel like reading. If I haven’t had the best week, I’d go for a light contemporary, but if I’m in a thought provoking mood then perhaps a dystopian or a thriller. Sometimes I just want to be swept away in a thick fantasy land or swoon over a romance when I go for new adult. I also plan my ARC reading for the month, based on release dates and what you guys rave over.
Michelle: I go through all sorts of ways. During the summer, I even went through a phase of the TBR jar where I write the titles of different reads, through the sticky notes into a jar, and pick them out. I usually now look at release dates for ARCs and randomly pick ones I want to read ASAP. Or of course… library due-dates and Netgalley archive dates are in the way, too. xD
A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?
Jeann: This awesome Black Dagger Brotherhood series still in its shrink wrap. I’m actually quite proud because it reminds me of when I first discovered Goodreads; I was looking for paranormal books that were highly recommended and this was at the top of the list at the time.
As in time when I purchased them and added them into my shelves, these two probably have to be some of the oldest. I just never got the chance to get to them yet, haha. I was literally about to pick up Graceling a few months ago when I was in my fantasy-awesome phase, but other reads got in the way. I’ve heard so many great things about both!
A book you recently added to your TBR?
Jeann: I picked up A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall at the book store and found Let The Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger at the library 😀 Michelle and I twinned here, I totally sense an oncoming buddy read, yay!
I always feel lucky when I’m the first person to read a library book after it was bought into it, hehe. That’s what happened with YOLO and A Little Something Different, and coming from the fact that they were both just released. Firecracker is supposed to be a lot like New Girl, the TV show, which is absolutely adorable! Talk about contemporary-romance!
A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Jeann: These beautiful F. Scott Fitzgerald hardcover classics. LOOK HOW PRETTY THEY ARE. I’M A SHALLOW BOOK LOVER AND I DON’T CARE.
Michelle: Okay.. I don’t really have books that are there because they’re just beautiful, but also because the summary/idea obviously has captivated me enough to buy it. But here are some of the prettiest pretties on my shelf! (Haha, that makes so much sense.)
But I add pretty books onto my TBR on Goodreads
all the time sometimes. 🙂
A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
Jeann: I have a lot of sequels on my TBR which I bought way back when I thought I could read THEM ALL. Some sequels are like number #4 or number #10. For some reason I also have the full Fallen series, which I thought was okay when I first started reading. Not anymore.
I PLAN TO READ THEM ALL! #CrazyManiacBookworm I buy books, so why don’t read them? And I do a pretty good job on Goodreads when adding books that I want to read/someone has recommended me. Not reading a book that I have bought makes me sad. 🙁
An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
Jeann: Without a doubt, it’s Winter by Marissa Meyer because EVIL SNOW WHITE. And I totally love the Lunar Chronicles with my favourite recent ship Cinder x Kai and Thorne x Cress and I need to know what happens now!
Credit to whoever made this gorgeous gif! (Since I am the gif queen, haha.) Cassie Clare gets me excited every time she announces a new to-be-released book. Almost every book that she has published has gotten a 5 star rating from me, and I loved the characters from this one in COHF! She is genius and my favourite author. 😉
A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?
THESE GUYS. I want to read them so badly—it’s so agonizing. Jeann loved Four and so did many of you, and I feel so left behind. :/ I’ve read many mixed reviews on The Forest of Hands and Teeth, but I always am looking for a new zombie read since they almost-always disappoint me.
A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
Jeann: Oh how I want to read these now. Lucky with The 5th Wave movie coming out and The Infinite Sea being released, I will have more motivation to pick up the first book. I’ve heard so many awesome recs with The Darkest Minds and need to read it!
Yes, that is the Eiffel Tower next to Daughter of Smoke & Bone. Hmm, I just felt like it had the right “feel” for it, haha. So many people *coughcough Cait* have said that people are recommending this book to them all the time. And I can seriously agree! This is definitely going to be read soon—I’ve heard so many great things!
A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
Jeann: I am dying to read the Heroes of Olympus series because PERCABETH. Oh how I long to read these. I LOVED the Percy Jackson series and I need MOAR. At the rate I’m going, I’ll probably get around to reading these when the series is over.
*BOOKS I’ve had Just One Day for a while now, and now that I’m going to be going to Gayle’s signing in November *SQUEALS* I really have got to get to this! Landline is just BÆ and The Bees‘s cover is just awing and alluring. I don’t know how else I can possibly describe my physical NEED for these.
How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
Jeann: I actually cheat to make it not look so bad. On my actual TBR shelf, there are 975. Sometimes when I go through it, I have no idea what some of those books are lol. I also have a sounds good shelf with 120 books on it, and a to read sequels shelf with 101 books that I don’t want to touch until I’ve read the first book. Oh yeah, and the to read later shelf with 26 books I will probably never get to. So overall that is 1222 books. WOAH O_O I need to do a spring clean.
Michelle: Hmm… 654. Haha, I remember when it was 250! That’s crazy. But really, 2015 is going to be a crazy year of debuts and books that I will die for to have. Watch, go on my profile now, and I bet that it has surpassed the 660 mark by now! xD
