Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

This week was a pretty awesome bookish week, had a lot of great new books turning up which was a nice surprise. I also saw the Maze Runner movie last week with Bec and found it disappointing because of all the stuff they blatantly changed and cut out of the book.

I also got my PAX tickets which is a gaming expo in Melbourne every year! We’ll be jetsetting off to Melbourne on October 31st, I’m super excited.

A reminder for Read Play Blog on October 16 – the topic is “What game character would you like to be for Halloween?” Whether it’s your favourite character or someone you admire, we want to know! Read Play Blog is a gaming meme out on the 16th every month which features an answer to the monthly topic, a recommendation and what you’re currently playing. More info here.

Book Haul

Review copies — physical

STSreview_12_10_2014

Dissonance by Erica O’Rouke – I definitely prefer the US cover better, but I can’t wait to read this time travel story!

After by Anna Todd – Haven’t heard much about it, but the author is an internet sensation, so this NA should be interesting.

Crash by Sean Williams – I met Sean Williams recently and he was the loveliest guy, so I’ll definitely have to read Jump and this!

Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst – This sounds freaking awesome with that creepy carnival setting, reminds me of The Night Circus.

Jonah from Tonga by Chris Lilley – I haven’t seen Tonga or Summer Heights High, so I don’t know if I’d be too keen to read this one.

Thank you to Allen and Unwin, Bloomsbury Australia, Simon and Schuster Australia and HarperCollins Australia for the review copies!

Bought

  1. Thank you Rou Min, oh gosh I do not like 1D as well and after hearing that from everyone, I questioned whether I'll be reading it lol. Yeah, there were so many changes and it made it more exciting, but it changed way too much I think 🙁

  2. Yeah, it was a book that you either liked or disliked I think, same goes with the movie. Glad to hear you liked Let it Snow, it was so much fun! That's a while to wait I guess.

  3. So many new review books! They were all ones that I didn't request because I wasn't too sure which is why I'd love to see what you think of them. Especially After! I hope you end up enjoying all your news goodies. 😀

  4. Sorry you didn't enjoy The Maze Runner. 🙁 I loved both the book and the movie, although I do know a lot of people who didn't find it as good.

Conjured sounds amazing! But also creepy, so I'm not sure if I'll ever read that.

And oh, Let It Snow is my favorite holiday book! It's so awesome! I'm excited to see the movie but I heard it won't be out until 2016.

  5. Great haul! I saw you added After on goodreads. Can't wait for your review! I acutally read all three books on wattpad and thought I am not a 1D fan i kinda like the story (its a 1D fanfic btw).

As for the maze runner movie I enjoyed it even though there were alot of changes but I kinda expected that after seeing the trailer. I actually thought the changes make the store more enjoyable and that the plot was still faithful to the book.

Oh i might do a ready play blog post this month! The topic sounds cool and I actually dressed up as one of the videogame character last year!

  6. Oh I know, sometimes I think I would enjoy it more if I just watched the movie first, then I wouldn't be disappointed that they cut stuff out. I'm so excited for the gaming expo, glad to hear you've scheduled yours! Thanks for being so enthusiastic about the meme <3

  7. Oh I know, I can't wait to read Dissonance myself! A Thousand Pieces has taken a while to get rleased hasn't it? Oh yes that's where I got the sale book from, every time I go to QBD I manage to pick up a bargain. No problems!

  8. I know, it's so frustrating! I shouldn't have read the book so close to the movie but I didn't have a problem with Gone Girl! Oh well, I guess it really does show the quality of the movie though. It definitely is a DVD one I would expect. Thank you Kara!

  9. I haven't read the Maze Runner yet or seen the movie. It's always disapointing when they cut so much during the movies, one of the reasons I hardly ever watch movies as I am the kind of people that keeps pointing out the differences between the book and movie.

That gaming expo sounds exciting! I have my Read Play Blog post for this month scheduled and ready to go, just added the currently playing section, so now it's all done :). can't wait to read the other people their posts!

    Have a great week!

  10. That's the thing about film adaptations — they ALWAYS change things. Sigh. Because of that, I try not to read (or re read) the book too close to the release date of the film; that way, I think I have a better chance of liking it. I think I'll probably still watch The Maze Runner, though I'll probably just rent it out on DVD. Dissonance looks really interesting! I do agree — the US version of the cover is much better! Enjoy your haul, Jeann! 🙂

  11. Oooh! I love a bit of time travel. Enjoy Dissonance, Jeann! I can't wait to hear what you think of it 😀 And After O_O I've been weary of that. I think it was 1D fanfiction, was it not? Hmmm…Yeah. I'll await your thoughts.

Have fun in Melbourne, Jeann! 😀 I hope your upcoming week is lovely and happy reading x

    • Oh dear, 1Direction fanfiction? Ahhhh I'll have to stay away from it then! Thank you Jess, I'm looking forward to Dissonance! I can't wait for Melbourne at the end of the month 😀

  12. You've never seen Summer Heights High? Jeann, Jeann, you must put down those animated series you love to surround yourself with and watch it. I love Ja'mie! That and Angry Boys. I have to buy a copy of A Thousand Pieces of You. That cover is absolutely GORGEOUS! I have no idea what it's about, but that cover! Can't wait to see what you think of Jump before reading Crash, it reminds me a little of the tech they used in the Uglies series. I really enjoyed it <3

    • Oh I don't watch that many animated series, only Sailor Moon! And Simpsons, Futurama, Dragon Ball Z….oh, wait. I know, the cover is so freaking pretty, I can't wait to read it! I'm glad you enjoyed The Uglies series because that's on my shelves too.

    • Yeah, I guess the book was really slow and wasn't for everyone, so the movie is a good option if you're just looking for a straight action movie. Was just disappointed by how much they cut out though. I haven't read Jump either!

  13. Aw, I'm sad you didn't like The Maze Runner movie. 😐 I'm REALLY excited for it, but I'll probably wait till it's out on dvd. I saw Gone Girl this week which was…. Nooooot what I expected! >.> I should've read the book first, lol.

Oh, such pretty books though! I kind of got scared off Dissonance after the huge amount of negative reviews. I'd love to try A Thousand Pieces of You though!!

    • Ah yeah, I guess I couldn't help the nagging voice in my head that was like "THAT didn't happen in the book!". Oh wow, you must have been so shocked over the movie lol Cait! Did you enjoy it at least?

Yes there are some great sci-fi reads coming up lately!

  14. Aww sorry you were disappointed with The Maze Runner movie. I actually liked it, but it's been awhile since I've read it. I've found I'm less critical that way & can enjoy the movie better if it's been awhile since I've read the book. I don't yell at the screen quite as much, LOL!!

Looks like you got a great book haul!! Awesome post! Thanks for sharing & thanks for shout out!!
    Tricia@ Cristina&#03 recently posted…Do You Read Horror?My Profile

    • Yeah, I think I was really critical about it because I read the book not long ago, so in my head I was like WHAT I can't believe they omitted that or took that out! Lol glad you were able to enjoy it.
