Read Play Blog is back for another month of gaming! This month’s question is:
What game character would you like to be for Halloween?
Since we don’t celebrate Halloween in Australia, there are two game characters I’ve thought about cosplaying at conventions as: Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy 8, or Chell from Portal. They are both asian and I love how both of their costumes are relatively simple and are wearable and fashionable, and wouldn’t need me walking around in something revealing or complicated. However, I’ve never cosplayed before, so I’ll need to work up the courage to do it.
Rinoa has been one of my favourite female gaming characters, she’s idealistic, beautiful, playful, loyal and friendly. I love how she matches Squall’s personality as he tends to be more guarded and cold, and her personality really warms his heart. I totally ship this couple and they are so cute together! I love the romance between them in the game, and how she will wait for him no matter how long they take to get reunited. I love the angel theme in Rinoa’s costume as well.
Chell well we have never heard her speak as a silent character on Portal, but I’ve had a glimpse into her personality from reading the game comics. It’s obvious from what she goes through that she’s intelligent, resilient, strong, a fast learner and definitely doesn’t respond to being antagonised lol. I’m really impressed by Chell but the only thing stopping me from cosplaying as her is the expensive portal gun I’d have to buy!
As you guys may notice, both Rinoa and Chell are on my Twitter profiles <3
My recommendation this month: The Walking Dead
I’ve already recommended several zombie games (Left 4 Dead 2 and Plants vs Zombies) so far so in keeping in line with the trend, The Walking Dead by Telltale Games would be perfect to play for Halloween. I constantly rave about it to everyone who is a fan of the show or of zombies, because it’s more of an ‘interactive movie’, with very little actual skills and game play required at all. The primary goal is to sit back and enjoy the supreme character development of a very charming little girl, Clementine and her protector Lee as they navigate the harsh zombie environment. It’s very easy to play and an excellent follow up to the TV show and graphic novel, and I just love it to bits. I cried at the end of the first season (there are 2 seasons out at the moment) and these are definitely emotional. If you love a good story (which I know you do, that’s why you’re reading this) I know you’d love The Walking Dead.
Currently Playing: Skyrim
I got bored of The Sims 4 because there isn’t much to do other than raise a family, throw parties and work so I went back to playing Skyrim. I have been playing it on and off, I just realised what a massive game it is!
Next month’s question: What is your favourite sci-fi game? – post your answer, recommendation & currently playing on the 16th of November, or anytime during the month!
Here’s a list of upcoming questions for the rest of the year.
