Indulgence Insider #12 – Spring Cleaning

October 26, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

There was a lot of drama this week in the long lasting author vs blogger feud – author Kathleen Hale admitted to physically stalking a well known book blogger in real life and revealing who she was. Like many other people, I was incredibly disturbed and concerned after reading the article on The Guardian. While the blogosphere has lost a great blogger, we can all learn from this experience and be careful about our personal details online.

I’ve been doing a big spring clean lately and getting rid of books, dvds and clothes that I won’t read or ever use, I’m surprised how much my tastes have changed since filling up my bookshelves! Many of the series are paranormal teen ones which I’ve heard bad reviews of and now will never read, and I still kept my copies of Twilight. Going to donate to the library and Lifeline 🙂 it’s been really rewarding!

Next week is a big one for me – we’re going to PAX Australia which is a big gaming convention held in Melbourne! It’s going to be filled with food, geekery and gaming and going to be the best weekend ever. I’ve got my outfit all sorted: A Captain America Dress from Living Dead Clothing!

Book Haul

Review copies — physical

Atlantia by Allie Condie – I was just reading early reviews and seeing what an interesting world this was exploring Atlantis! What a pleasant surprise, I did enjoy the Matched series so would love to experience this one.

Rooms by Lauren Oliver – I can’t wait to delve into this ghost story for Halloween, I’ve heard good things!

Corruption by Jessica Shirvington – The sequel to Disruption, I wonder how it all pans out?

Thank you to Penguin Australia, Hachette Australia and HarperCollins Australia for the review copies!

Review copies – digital

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan – I requested this ages ago when I was still keeping up with Netgalley (I try and keep those click happy fingers off these days) and finally got accepted many months later lol!

  1. Thanks Stephanie hehe! Oh I know it is still a long feud, I don't think it will ever go away. As long as we start respecting each other for what we do, then I think it will be A okay. I hope it goes back to normal as well! You can definitely notice bloggers blogging less.

  2. Awww thank you so much lovely, you are too kind! I loved wearing the dress hehe. Oh I really hope Atlantia will be brilliant! Corruption really is great Laura, I just reviewed it.

  3. You look stunning in that dress Jeann! I hope you had a great time!

Yes, the whole KH situation was awful and I still cannot understand how some people would side with her… I can understand that it is a cry for help, but not that anyone would think she is in the right… oh well.

I have both Rooms and Atlantia in the wish list, so I cannot wait to hear what you think of them!

  4. Your dress is literally the best dress I've ever seen in the world! You rock it girl. 😉 High five for Atlantia! Hoping that it beats the Matched series for me. 😛 Corruption is oh so shiny. I need to get myself a copy just to have it on my shelves. Can't wait to see what you think of it!

  5. I've read most of the posts about K. Hale. I usually try to block out all drama, but this was just so over the top and horrible. But one thing is sure – she can kiss her writing career goodbye. This was a last drop!

I didn't like TMi movie that much, I'm not even that big fan of books, but considering how popular it is, we could probably expect next The Vampire Diaries scenario – that show should realllllllly end soon. It starts to look like Turkish soap opera about Suleiman The Magnificent.

The Morganville Vampires is my favorite paranormal series ever, but I don't think show will be that good.

    • Oh I know right, a lot of us definitely aren't supporting her work anymore after this. I'm not sure if it was a publicity stunt or a revenge thing or what, but it was just a low move.

I didn't like the movie that much either, that's why I probably won't watch the series lol. HAHAH Turkish soap opera, that is so hilarious! I kind of lost interest in the last season and haven't caught up since. Have you seen the Morganville show yet? What do you think?

  6. I’ve heard a lot about that issue but haven’t read an article. Perhaps I need to look for some. That’s really awful. 🙁

I cant wait to hear your thoughts about Atlantia and your dress is so gorgeous. I love it 🙂

    Here's mine:

    • Thank you Laura, I appreciate it! Good idea to do fall cleaning as well and not just leave it until Spring lol. I know what you mean, I need to make room for all the copies coming in ahaha. Can't wait to read Rooms as well, will definitely share when I get the chance!

    • I know, they have the best sales ever! That's why I know if I donate the books they will be going somewhere for a good cause, and to be picked up by book lovers too. I'm curious about Atlantia as well.

  7. Your dress is delightful!

Spring cleaning (or cleaning anytime) is so, so thereputic for me- I can completely agree with what you say about it being rewarding: perfect description. I have a huge pile of books that I'm trying to work out what to do with, and they're just sitting in my room taking up space!
Romi recently posted…Books for when you’re… (17)My Profile

    • Thank you so much Romi! It definitely is therapeutic getting rid of stuff I've had lying around all year. Spring is the perfect time for it. Yeah, I've realised some of these books I'm just never going to read.

  8. Oooooo have fun at PAX. While I don't game, I do watch gaming channels on YouTube haha and a couple of my favourites are going to be there 🙂

I have a hard time cleaning out bookshelves because I always think what if I want to read it again even though most of the time I know I never will, so good job on doing the clean up!
Patty @ Patty's recently posted…Stacking The Shelves: October 2014My Profile

    • Thanks Patty, yes I went last year to my first PAX and it was amazing, this year will be bigger and better! Yeah, it was quite hard to part with my goodies but I think I did well 🙂

  9. I WILL BE WATCHING THE NEW CITY OF BONES TV SERIES!!! Very huge fan here. x) Heeehe. I've nearly collected all 6 books of the first series, and 2 more to read then I'm onto the Clockwork series. OMG, though that Captain America dress is gorgeous!

I just finished Disruption and I'm basically dyyyying for Corruption. Omg. That wicked, evil, meanie cliff-hanger. I NEED TO KNOOOOW.

    • Glad to hear they made a TV series for fans, at least you guys will get some sort of fan service. I have the full series but stopped reading around Book 2, I really should at least get up to Book 3. Oh my gosh I can't wait to read Corruption! We should do a buddy read or something 😀

  10. Ohh, I LOVE your dress. (Even though I'm behind on all things Marvel 🙁 ) Living Dead Clothing is pretty awesome. I like a lot of their stuff. I hope you have a fantastic week down here in bipolar Melbs. 🙂

Also, it's great that you're spring cleaning! I've already spring-cleaned all of my clothes and some little ornaments, but I can never bring myself to get rid of books or DVD's (Hell, I still have all of my videos from when I was a little kid! Our video player still works though, so technically they're not wasting that much space…I might watch them again. One day…) even the ones I don't like…I just can't do it. Actually, I'm lying. I could easily give away some DVD's. I'm just too lazy to go through them all.

I got a copy of Atlantia too, so I'm looking forward to reading that this week, hopefully. I also can't wait to see wait you think of Rooms (I love that cover!) and I really need to read Disruption already…
Ebony @ Daring Damse recently posted…The Harry Potter Book TagMy Profile

    • Thanks Ebony, Oh I know I need to watch Guardians of the Galaxy but it's no longer screening 🙁 I'm really looking forward to my Melbourne trip! Oh good on you, I'm trying not to get too attached to the books, I keep on looking at them and thinking "maybe I should read it…" but I know I probably wouldn't. I am running out of bookshelf space too, so it's probably time. Spring cleaning feels really good to get rid of all that stuff though.

Ooh I can't wait to read Rooms and Corruption, those are my next reads!

  11. You know you'll have nerds all over the country wanting a piece of you in that dress 😀 But you can't wear it ALL week. Stinky 😀

I forgot all about PAX, you'll have to Hangout me with what days you're doing what.

CORRUPTION!! You have no idea how badly I need to read it. I mean, sell my own mother even for half a dozen chapters. I loved book one and you know dystopians make me bonkers. Good for you donating your books. I wish we had a specific place to donate down here as well, I just give mine to the Salvos if no one else wants to take them off my hands.

Have a fabulous week superjeann <3

    • HAHAHAHA OH Kelly you are hilarious! Well I also have a game girl dress that I'm not game enough to post on here, don't worry hun I've got it all planned. Will definitely let you know Kelly, we're pretty much booked out all weekend for the convention and partying but Monday may be a go-er. Awww sometimes you think, I could have kept that instead of seeing it at Salvos. At least with Lifeline they put it in a huge book sale.

    • Thank you Kimba, it's definitely hard but when I know it will be better loved elsewhere instead of collecting dust on my shelf when I could be using that space for other things, definitely worth it.

  12. HAVE FUN IN MELBOURNE, JEANN! It sounds like it's going to be a blast! Your dress is super appropriate 😀

Ahhhh the battle of Lauren Oliver. She's such a hit and miss with me. While I love her writing, she just doesn't resonate with me and I'm still peeved about how her trilogy went. BUT weirdly enough, I can't stay away from anything she writes. I have a copy of Rooms ready to be read and sometimes I think "whyyyy?" I mean, I'm not a particular fan but I gravitate to all her premises HA! Hopefully this one is good though. I've heard good things as well! I have my fingers crossed that adult!Oliver will be more for me 😀

Have a good upcoming week, Jeann! AND HAVE FUN AND TAKE PICS! <33

    • Thank you Jess! I can't wait for it! Oh I know what you mean with Lauren Oliver. Her books have really interesting concepts, and her writing is addictive, but sometimes the follow through isn't there you know? I love the sound of Rooms, and the fact that it's an adult read might be better. Definite fingers crossed! Oh there will be lots of pics Jess!

  13. Oh my goodness I LOVE LOVE LOVE your dress. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun! And I hope you like Corruption because I really enjoyed it 🙂 Atlantia graced my doorstep as well, and I can't wait to read it!!

I've been meaning to do some spring cleaning too. There are some books I have that I'm never going to read, or never going to read again, and I think I'll donate them all to the library.

Enjoy your reads and PAX!! 🙂

    • Thank you Emily, I love it so much as well! Can't wait to wear it out finally! Yeah, that's the same with my books although our library doesn't take ARCs, so those ones will be getting donated.

  14. It's great that you're donating books so that others can hopefully read and enjoy them -it's a win-win situation! Looking forward to seeing what you think of 'Rooms' – I'm a Lauren Oliver fan and it looks pretty interesting. Hope you have a great time at the PAX event, and the outfit you picked it perfect! Best wishes for the week ahead 🙂
