Aussie YA Bloggers Secret Santa 2014 Blog Hop!

December 5, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Blog Tours, Books

As part of the Australian YA Bloggers & Readers Secret Santa Blog Hop, we want to know whether you’ve been a good or naughty blogger this year.

This blog hop is for the participants of the Aussie YA Bloggers Secret Santa list to help you find out more about your fellow santas and santees and hopefully find out who your santa is! If you’re not part of the blog hop, feel free to answer the discussion questions below, leaving out the clues for the santa. Just let us know that you’re not part of the Santa list.

1. How are you going with your Goodreads challenge?

I’ve read 120 books this year, didn’t think I’ll be able to do it but I’m also 11 books ahead! WOOHOO!

2. How many times did you post per week on average? Do you think you’ll post more/less in the future?

I post about 4-5 times a week on average and looking back at the year, it looks like I mostly kept to my schedule. Of course there were a few times when I couldn’t keep up with posts, reviews or my Indulgence Insider, but overall I think I did pretty well and will continue to keep to that next year.

3. What is your Netgalley ratio?

It’s abysmal. I definitely try and focus on reading my physical review copies and sometimes Netgalley books get neglected because of that. But at 37.7% what can you expect right 😛

4. Have you been commenting on other blogs?

Throughout the year I was pretty good with commenting on other blogs, although I found out that was contributing to the stress of blogging for me, as I pressured myself to do it ASAP. Lately, I’m probably not as on top of commenting as I want to be, but I love visiting your blogs so I make the rounds a few times a week.

5. Did you read mostly review books or non-review books this year?

I mostly stuck to review books this year, otherwise the pile wouldn’t be manageable lol. Gotta keep those publishers happy, I’m so grateful for being able to review for them.

6. What are your blogging goals for 2015?

I’d love to do something about my clunky site design, it bugs me with how slow it gets sometimes because all the coding and plugins have been hand picked by me and I’m not very good at that stuff. Other than that, continue having fun blogging here and in the blogging community is a big one, there were definitely up and downs in 2014 where I let the pressure get to me.

7. What is your favourite blogging moment/achievement of 2014?

There are so many, it’s been a great year for blogging! Definitely being invited to speak on a panel at the #LoveYA Festival for Brisbane Libraries, which was a proud, scary and exciting moment for me. But there were also some fantastic moments where I met my fellow Aussie Bloggers, in particular Chiara and Bec, being able to go to PTA Live and Love YA Festival and last but not least, starting the Australian YA Bloggers Group with Kelly and bringing our lovely Aussie YA Blogger community together.

Based on your answers above, do you think you’ve been a good or naughty blogger this year?

GOOD BLOGGER – I think I’ve done pretty well this year.

Leave 3 clues to help your santee guess who you are!

Well, this is embarrassing. I was so busy organising for the Blog Hop and getting everyone excited that I forgot to sign up myself. So I’m not actually a Santa this year, but it’s all worked out ‘behind the scenes’. But this is where you’ll need to leave 3 clues about your santee to help them guess whot hey are!

Examples of clues you can leave:

  • Your santee’s latest blog post
  • Describe your santee’s theme
  • A recent comment you left your santee

  1. Thanks so much for putting the Secret Santa together, it's been a fabulous way to meet all the other Aussie YA bloggers out there along with the Goodreads group! I definitely agree that I let the pressure of commenting and posting regularly get to me sometimes this year. Hopefully 2015 will be less stressful for everyone 🙂 Happy Christmas 😀
My recent post NA Christmas Blog Hop: Megan Erickson + GIVEAWAY

    • No problems Amy, it's been wonderful organising and seeing everyone have fun and get to know each other! I totally agree Amy 🙂 Happy Christmas too!

    • Thank you Nemo, there are SO many events these days and that is awesome because we get to talk books and meet bookish people! Glad to hear you've enjoyed it.

  2. rlsharpe

Jeann you are a GREAT blogger! It was such a wonderful thing for you and Kelly to put this group together, and you always comment back, which is a really hard and sometimes stressful part of blogging because there are just so many of us, and I really appreciate it.

I love reading your blog and look forward to all your great posts to come in 2015.

  3. crashmybookparty

Thanks for organising all this, Jeann! You and the other mods do such an amazing job, but I'm sorry you missed out on the Secret Santa present fun! Congratulations on your fantastic achievements this year 🙂

  4. 37%? But how many books is that though, because it it's only half a dozen and you only have 4 to read or so, then that's pretty good. Are they in the double digits? I've been getting stuck into mine lately as was hoping to get mine close to 100% by the end of the year, but it's never going to happen.

Ohh, is 2015 bringing a makeover? *puts up hand* I wanna see first. I WANNA SEE FIRST! I get so excited when I see blogs being madeover. I'M SO FRIGGING EXCITED!

Thanks for organising the SS Jeann, next one you have to include yourself you duffer <3
My recent post The Bookish Best Of… Wherefore art thou book?

    • Oh Kelly you know me. Talking about the number of review copies I have is off limits XD When I first started blogging a few years ago, I went crazy with requesting on Netgalley and a fair few of them I wouldn't give a second look. So I've just been avoiding, lol.

Hehe I didn't say makeover, I still love my design, I just want to make sure it runs the best that it can.

No problems Kelly, glad to see everyone enjoying themselves!

Had no idea that Aussie bloggers love connecting with their local bloggers too! We have these kinda of events here in the Philippines, but we did personally HAHA we reserve restaurants and hang out and talk bookish shit HAHA it's so much fun!
My recent post Signup: Book Blogger Feature

    • Absolutely, seeing the PH blogger community come together has inspired us too! So far we've only met each other in each city, maybe one day we'll have a big thing 🙂

  6. Jaz

Woah you are a machine at posting Jeann! 4-5 times a week that is amazing! Also I love your site as it is (: I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T SIGN UP WOT.

    • Awww thank you Jaz! I schedule everything in advance, don't know what I would do without it! Haha yes, I was silly XD

  7. Your Netgalley ratio is less abysmal than mine. I went crazy with it when I first started blogging then completely abandoned it until a few weeks ago. So, basically, I suck right now 😛

    • Hehe that's okay, I feel like I'm part of the fun still Mel! No problems, thanks to Joy as well as to co-organiser. Thanks lovely, I'm glad you guys are enjoying it!

    • No problems Emily, I think it\’s a fun way to get to know the rest of the secret santa hoppers 🙂 Awww thank you Emily, that means a lot! <3

  8. Woop woop, 120 books is super amazing and I just don't understand how you do it! TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!!! Don't worry, my netgalley ratio is worst that yours buahahaha!!

I'm so glad to have organised this with you lovely! It's been so fun and I should probably go and do my post now heh.

    • Lol I read fast I guess and also on PUBLIC TRANSPORT! Without the commute to the city every day I would probably be able to read half of that. Haha phew it\’s not just me with that netgalley thing. It\’s been SO much fun Joy! <3 So glad to have organised with you too!

  9. I was too unorganised to jump into this this year. But I'll try for next year. 😉 I think you did really well with your Goodreads challenge. WOOOT. I feel like i've read mostly review-books this year too…although the beginning of the year I was more into the library. Funny how things change from month to month, right?! XD SO COOL you got to speak at that festival though. Congrats again for that!!
My recent post This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner | EXTREME COVER LOVE

    • I hope you can join us sometime, perhaps we should do more in the future! IT\’s been so much fun. Thanks lovely, I might treat myself over the Christmas holidays by just reading books that I want to read too. It is dependent on moods I think.

  10. Eugenia

Nice job with your reading challenge Jeann! I'm like you and haven't been able to get to my Netgalley copies lately, but hopefully the holidays might be able to help me change that >.<.
It's great that you've set yourself goals for next year, I'm sure you'll get to achieve them 🙂
My recent post Review: Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke

    • Thanks Genie, this is the most I\’ve read in the year! Oh gosh, don\’t even mention Netgalley mine is terrible lol. I hope holidays will help too!

    • Thank you Ebony, gosh I was rallying everyone on Twitter and Goodreads and then it was drawn and oops. Got a bit too ahead of myself hahaha! It\’s the most I\’ve read out of a year which is exciting 😀
