Indulgence Insider #15 – Gaming Subscriptions

December 7, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

This week, Joy and I have been busy organising the Aussie YA Bloggers and Readers Secret Santa which has been so much fun! I love our fellow Aussie bloggers and it’s been great seeing everyone enjoy themselves.

I’ve signed up to some geeky mystery box subscriptions, LootCrate and Nerdblock which sends you a box of goodies every month. So far, I’ve LOVED one of my Nerdblocks and wasn’t too fussed on the Arcade Block, but it’s worthwhile keeping an eye on their Facebook page to see what’s been announced. They’ll also be a good present for the gamer in your life.

Read Play Blog 2

Next month’s Read Play Blog topic is: “What is on your gaming wishlist? Recommend something to gift to a friend!“? I hope you can participate on the 16th or any time during the month!

Book Haul

Have been really psyched to pick up Symbiont by Mira Grant too, I just loved the first one. Tape worm horror anyone?

I went back to the library to return a book and reborrowed The Ring & Crown because I didn’t get the chance to read it. Very excited for Trust Me, I’m Lying and have heard amazing things about The Sky So Heavy.

I was surprised by the Goodreads Choice Awards. I hadn't read any of the books that were picked for the YA categories. I'm curious about The Mortal Instruments series now though. The thickness of those books scares me though… D:
My recent post Movie Review: The Maze Runner

    • I know what you mean, a lot of those books I hadn\’t read either. I\’m surprised TMI was still on there, but glad to hear people loved it. Yeah, they are really big books!

  2. WHAT. I SEE A CONNOR FIGURINE THERE HE IS SO CUTE. I wish I lived in Australia then I could participate in your events and also get CUTE VIDEO GAME STUFF.

I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on Trust Me I'm Lying. I have that book too but I have no idea when I will be able to read it.

    • I knowww, come to Australia Val! You can actually get Loot Crate or Nerd Block because they ship internationally, totally check it out Val! I need to get into Assassin's Creed lol.

  3. I have to admit that I'm not a huge gamer now as I was when I was younger but that LootCrate box looks pretty cool! I have wanted the Ring & the Crown by M. De La Cruz for so long! It's more up my alley than her Blue Bloods series and I absolutely cannot wait to read it. Have a lovely week!

    • That box was actually Nerd Block which was pretty cool, it gets really addictive lol! Yeah, I have the Blue Blood series on my shelf but never felt inclined to read it you know? Thanks so much for commenting!

  4. Yaaay so glad to have had you with me helping organise SS for our fellow Aussie bloggers. It's been a great opportunity getting to know everyone. 😀

I've always wanted to try LootCrate and it looks awesome but I just can't talk myself into spending that money on figurines. 🙁 I guess I'm just not geeky enough…:'(

    • It has been great getting everyone involved Joy, so glad I got to organise with you <3 hehe oh Joy you must get it even one time to see if you like it or not 🙂 it's so much fun getting a surprise every month!

  5. Thanks so much to you and Joy for organising this event 😀 It was so much fuuuun. I'm sending out my present tomorrow so yay! I can't believe Symbiont is already out–I need to go and grab myself a copy of this.

    Lovely haul, Jeann <33

    • No problems Mel, it's been great seeing everyone enjoy themselves! I really love our Aussie blogger community, we've got really great people hehe. Yay, how exciting!

  6. I hope The Ring and the Crown is good! I've heard some mixed things about it. I think I might pick up Symbiont for my cousin. I staring at her bookshelf and realised that she had Parasite! HOPEFULLY IT'S A GOOD ONE!

Can I just say I completely forgot to sign up for the secret santa. I saw the tweet and I sat and prowled through so many reviews and made a list and everything. And then work had me doing a week of back to back 9hr shift and I completely forgot to do the actual registration which kills me. NEXT YEAR OK <3

I was prowling through Peter Alexander today AGAIN and I stand by my tweet yesterday. The superhero/dc/marvel -ish collection is SO YOU! <3

    • I hope so too, I've heard mixed things as well. Oh my Gosshhh I just LOVE everything Mira Grant does, her novels are so intelligently written. Awww Jess I guess I wasn't the only one that forgot lol! Definitely next year, we may have something planned sooner than Christmas 😉 I went and saw the Marvel collection and it is SO CUTE! Although I was jealous of the guys stuff too!

  7. I voted for Red Rising! SO glad it won. x)

Ohhh, I want to read Ring and the Crown and Trust Me, I'm Lying. But I have zero time right now. Gah! This is ME who reads like nine million books a day (okay, slight exaggeration) and I'm struggling to squee in 100 pages atm. What even is life?! 😉 I loved A Sky So Heavy though. It was really sad and kind of a different spin on Tomorrow When The War Began.
Hope you have a good upcoming week!!

Nice book haul!! I'm really interested in all three of those books, actually, so I can't wait to see what you think of them. Especially The Sky So Heavy; I recently borrowed that one and The Protected, and from the reviews I've been seeing, I'm in for some good reads. Trust Me, I'm Lying also looks great. I *love* that title. 😀 Unfortunately I missed out on Secret Santa this year! Oh well. Next year, right? 😉

  9. Ebony

Ooh, looking forward to what you think of The Ring & the Crown, Trust Me, I'm Lying and The Sky so Heavy – I've heard great things about both of Claire's books!

We have Loot Crate and it's been hit or miss with each month, but there is always something in the crate we really love. I've been wanting to try out Nerdblock but since it's the holiday season we're waiting.
I really need to get a copy of Symbiont

    • Yeah, I've been following their Facebook closely to see what themes there are each month. Signed up to the anniversary December crate which I'm looking forward to! I've gotten 1 nerd block classic and 1 arcade block so far and I've really loved the classic one. It's definitely worth what you pay in the least. YES YOU DO.

  11. I'm a strong advocate for The Sky so Heavy too, it's brilliant Jeann and was actually inspired by the refugee plight in Australia. It gives you a whole other perspective of what they go through.

I have a copy of Parasite, but is it honestly about tapeworms? Even the thought of that makes me gag. I love the idea of Loot Crate, but with hubster being a very specific gamer (you know, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed), he'd probably end up with My Little Pony figurines 😀

    • Woow, you are making me love the sound of it so much more! I've only read 5 star reviews for it and I loved The Protected, so no doubt it is going to be awesome. YES Parasite is about tapeworms but keep reading it is freaking GLORIOUS! One of my favourite books last year. Can't wait to get into it. Loot Crate is awesome, trust me it'd be something he likes! In fact I got an Assassin's Creed toy in my last crate.

  12. Ooooh, right now I've started a Symbiont buddy read with Faye and I'm loving it so far!
Cannot wait to hear what you think of The Ring And The Crown!

    Happy reading Jeann!

  13. Ohhh Secret Santas are fun! Too bad I never did get wind of any gift exchanges on my end of the world. Boo. Anyway, I really need to read Parasite by Mia Grant. Heck, I need to read a book of hers. Gah. What the heck am I waiting for?!

    Have a great week, hun!

    • Awww that's a shame Joy, they are really lots of fun and it's fun getting to know everyone taking part. I hope you do find one to join! Parasite is fantastic, SO GOOD. seriously it blew my mind by how good it was.

  14. loonytuney

THE SKY SO HEAVY THE SKY SO HEAVY. Oh my gosh it's so good. Have you read The Protected? Well, anyway, both are amazing. Hope you enjoy these 😀

And thanks so much for the awesome Secret Santa organisation 😀

    • YESSS I have heard so much about it and cannot wait to read it, I bet it's going to be freaking amazing. Yup, I read and Loved the Protected and gave it 5 stars! CANT WAIT.
