Read Play Blog #6 – Gaming Wishlist & Christmas Recommendation

December 16, 2014 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Features, Read Play Blog

Read Play Blog 2

Read Play Blog is a meme about video games and books, posted every 16th of the month. Bloggers are encouraged to answer a discussion question, and recommend a video game that is similar to a book they liked. Hosted by Happy Indulgence Books & Read Me Away.

Read Play Blog is back for another month of gaming! Our question this month is: What is on your gaming wishlist? Recommend something to gift to a friend!

My Gaming Wishlist

Seeing as I just bought a lot of the PC games I wanted to play (such as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Battlefield 4), this list will consist of a few 3DS games, my poor 3DS XL which is gathering dust.

1. Game of Thrones (Telltale Games)

got

As you guys know, I’m a massive Telltale Games fan and the latest installment is based off our favourite epic fantasy – A Song of Ice and Fire! I’ve heard fantastic things about this new release and that it retains all of the intrigue and characters are true to their nature. Can’t wait to discover the new family too.

2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

I literally bought my 3DS to play Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, which I haven’t finished yet. I loved how addictive Animal Crossing was, and how you didn’t need to sink a massive amount of time into it every day just to get through it. I find it relaxing just maintaining your town and meeting all of the cute characters 🙂 plus visiting friend’s villages as well!

3. Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies (3DS)

pwdual

I haven’t even finished Apollo Justice or started Miles Edgeworth yet, but this will be on the list for when I get around to it. I LOVE the Phoenix Wright games, they are my favourite ever and I’ve heard this is awesome!

Christmas Recommendation: Tales of the Borderlands

I just played the first episode of this one (it’s a 5 part episodic adventure) and it was completely HILARIOUS! I was literally in tears because it was just so funny! It’s a Borderlands spin-off, even if you haven’t played Borderlands before, I think you’ll enjoy this one because it’s a standalone story. Featuring a cocky Handsome Jack wannabe called Rhys, and a smarmy con artist called Fiona, the two will work together on a heist in the dangerous world of Pandora. It’s so much fun, and so easy to play too as an interactive story! Gameplay pretty much revolves around choosing dialogue, quick time events and watching it all unfold.

Best of all, it will suit the console or PC gamer in your life and I think all types of gamers, from beginners to hardcore will enjoy it simply for the fun and zany story.

Here’s my full review of the first episode on MMGN.

Currently Playing: Skyrim

This is probably not a surprise, but so far I’ve sunk 44 hours into Skyrim and it feels like I’m getting nowhere. I have to work myself up to play the game because it just goes on forever, which is why several months later I’m still playing it. Borderlands Pre-Sequel arrives this week though, so chances are I’ll be playing that in the coming week.

Next month’s question: What games are you looking forward to in 2015? – post your answer, recommendation & currently playing on the 16th or anytime during the month and link up!

Gah! I am officially in love with your blog! I love video games; more specifically, PC games 😀 I can't wait to join your community!

  2. Angie

I need to start playing Skyrim again. I love that game so much. I put a lot of time into it too … those side quests just suck me in. Then I try to make myself get back onto the main quest, but it doesn't always work!

  3. Hello! I came across your blog from another blog friend, Natalie over at Natalie Patalie, and I absolutely love this Read Play Blog series. I think it is a really fun idea. And as for Skyrim? Oh honey… you will play many, many more hours. Hahah I have had that game for a few years now, and I think I've spent at least 600 hours on it (multiple games and characters). It's one of my favorites because of how diverse it is, as far as characters go. I hope you are enjoying it though! I have a weekly blog hop called Come Along Ponds and I would love to see some of your posts linked up if you have time. It runs from 7PM Monday EST to 6AM Wednesday EST. Hope to see you there!

    • Hi Megan, nice to meet you and thank you for taking the time to comment! Hahaha yes, I think Skyrim is the type of game you keep on a constant and to the side whenever you feel like you're in the mood for it. It's definitely massive and diverse! I'll come check it out!

  4. I will never be able to play Dual Destinies because I do not have a Nintendo DS. THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE I CAN PLAY ON THE MAC???? CAN I???

They're making a Telltale of GoT? Hmmm. It's not by the same company that made Walking Dead is it?

    • Woah you can play on the MAC? I have no idea, I think you can play some phoenix wright games on your phone or tablet though. Yup, Telltale is the same company that made The Walking Dead – I\’ve heard great things about GoT!

  5. I think I'll grab that Borderlands episode one for my husband, he likes those kinds. Funny dialogue is a hoot. I know he loved the dialogue in Portal.

Personally I think I'll play some Puppeteer this week 🙂

    • Yay, so glad to hear you\’re going to pick it up! I hope he enjoys it, I want to replay it again because it was so funny.

  6. Hubby loves Skyrim, but it's one of those games he picks up and puts down quite often. At the moment he's right into Elite Dangerous, which he backed in some sort of Kickstarter appeal.

I'm a complete and utter dork when it comes to games, especially PC. I need something more simplistic, like a controller and console as generally games are much easier to navigate. Curious though, do you play games on your phone or tablet? I'd love recommendations.
My recent post The Bookish Best Of… Books That Surprised Us in 2014

    • Yeah, it can get pretty repetitive at times but it goes on forever lol. I used to play Simpsons Tapped out and Tiny Village, but not anymore. I prefer to browse instagram, Facebook and Twitter when I'm on the go, got enough things to be addicted to lol. Although I've heard Clash of the Clans is quite popular these days…

  7. Game of Thrones (Telltale Games) <–How the fuck did I know about this?! HOW?! It wasn't even mentioned in Game Informer!! They're usually good about telling us about Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead episodes, but this?! GAHHH. MUST GET. Thank goodness for your post!

I can talk to Tabitha about this little add-on, but I'm not really sure how these blogging things work. I mean, how am I supposed to know the topic ahead of time?

ps. I've been playing Skyrim for…a year actually. I got it for Christmas last year. I have 100+hours and I'm still not close to finishing. So you are not alone on that front.
My recent post Video Game Review: Assassins Creed: Unity

    • It literally just got released Kat! It's on sale on Steam at the moment so you might be able to get it cheap 🙂 Glad to help lol! The topic for next month is posted at the end of the meme 🙂 next months' is "What games are you looking forward to in 2015"? We also usually link it to the rest of the questions for the year, but we'll need to get organised for next year lol. Woah, that's what makes me worried! I've sank 44 hours in and I'm only on Level 16 D:

  8. Faye M.

I didn't know there was a Game of Thrones games! I'm definitely interested to know how this particular one plays out. Is it like the Walking Dead game everybody keeps talking about? If so, I want in on the sandwich, too! (OK, that makes no sense and I made that up. Wahaha!)

I'm keen on getting Tales of the Borderlands! 🙂 I love funny stories and anything that can tickle the funny bone in this clumsy body is A-OK in my dictionary. i wonder if I can get it from Steam… HMMM.
My recent post ARC Review: Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler

    • Yup, it's made by the same developers so it's definitely similar in gameplay. I think you definitely need to play all of those games Faye, especially Tales of Borderlands! Love that you love the sound of what I recommended. and YUP they are all on Steam! Wait for the Steam Sale over Christmas though 😉

  9. Marianne @ Boricuan Bookworms

a friend of mine is playing the Game of Thrones one, and he is in love with it! Once I get up to speed with the series I may just play that one.

  10. Animal Crossing looks cute, the name is familiar, but I never played it. Is there also a pc version? I heard good things about ace attorney, but for some reason I don't really think it's a game for me.

My boyfriend plays Skyrim sometimes, I like how the game looks, but indeed it feels like you have to do a lot of the same stuff. I never really was interested in playing it.
My recent post Review: Ghost Heart by Ripley Patton

    • Oooh I\’m so excited, it\’s definitely going on the Christmas leaf now 😀 I can\’t wait for A Game of Thrones, no doubt the price will go down eventually and then it\’s ours!
