Indulgence Insider #16 – First of the Year!

January 4, 2015 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Welcome to the first Indulgence Insider of 2015! I still can’t believe another year is over, and instead of delving into the goal setting and planning, I’m taking some time out to enjoy last year’s achievements.

I’m also participating in my first Instagram challenge, the #hello2015bookchallenge and so far it’s a lot of fun. Follow my bookish adventures at:

Pierce Brown also liked one of my Instagram photos with Red Rising in it! I fangirled.

Read Play Blog 2This month’s Read Play Blog topic is: “What games are you looking forward to in 2015?“? Post your answer, recommendation and currently playing on the 16th of the month or anytime during the month and link up!

Book Haul

Since my book shelves are double stacked and overflowing, I didn’t ask for any books for Christmas, although my birthday is coming up on January 30th so that might change. I did get a book gift card for Christmas though, which I’m excited to spend!

Review Copies – Physical

I Was Here by Gayle Forman – The Lucky Aussie Bloggers and Readers as a part of the Goodreads group were chosen by Simon & Schuster Australia to review exclusive ARCs of I Was Here! Can’t wait to pick this up!

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers – This was a surprise New Years present from Bloomsbury which sounds really creepy and chilling.

Discussion Posts

Some 2014 recaps and discussion posts which I have enjoyed:

Bookish News

  • Probably old news to you guys, but I enjoyed the Insurgent Trailer:

  • For Aussie Bloodlines fans, if you pre-order The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead from your local Dymocks over the counter, you’ll get a copy of Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier for free. Yay two for one!

What did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. Ok this month I NEED to remember the Read Play Blog. I missed it last month. But yay 2015! And a new year! I don't think I have any new books from this week, well, they aren't physically with me, but I should be getting a package when I go back to school 🙂
My recent post Top Ten Tuesday #38

    • Hehe it's okay Val! We're going to put a schedule of the full year's topics so everyone can be prepared this time. Can't wait to see what you get in your package!

    • I know, it's definitely a bit OTT though but I'm looking forward to it and I love the haircut! Can't wait to watch it. I just finished reading I Was Here and it definitely took me by surprise as well, I was glued to the book but in the end I couldn't connect to the character.

  2. Yeah! The first Indulgence Insider of 2015! *throws confetti* I'm so excited to see what you think of I Was Here because…duh…Gayle Forman. 😉 And I hope you enjoy The Vanishing Game! I read Kate's other book (Inherit Midnight and found it pretty entertaining, so I hope this one is too! 😀 Thanks for sharing, and great recap, as always!

    • YAY thanks Zoe, I just read I Was Here and I enjoyed it, but there were a few things that I took issue to like the character's decisions lol. I'll be putting up my review next week!

  3. livvvy75

That reading challenge looks pretty good, good luck with it 🙂 Haha I bet you're still fangirling that he liked your picture! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you think of I Was Here.

Oh – and thanks for sharing the Insurgent trailer. I don't know if it is the same as something else I've seen but I feel like that was more of a sneak peek/preview. I hope they're not the same 🙂

    • It's so much fun Olivia, I'm having the best time! Lol I AM still fangirling. Just finished reading I Was Here and I will be posting my review next week!

  4. The Vanishing Game looks really creepy. I was hoping I'd get a copy but it's not looking good. Ah, well. To the library it is, then XD

I am SO not keen on the Insurgent trailer if I'm being honest. I think it's way too dramatic T.T

How awesome is that pre-order deal? I already have Masquerade, otherwise I'd totally be cashing in on that one.

    • I know, I read it and I'm so not up for a creepy read at the moment, wish it came out around Halloween lol. Will let you know what I think! I'm so glad PTA are spreading the word for Masquerade <3

  5. Marianne @ Boricuan Bookworms

Pierce once liked a picture of my dog and I was fangirling the rest of the day, lol. I'm so jealous that you got I Was Here. I feel like moving to Australia now xD Enjoy all of your books, lovely. And thanks for mentioning my Dangerous Girls post!

    • WOW, that wouuld have been so amazing! he liked one of my other photos after putting up this post, omg totally fangirling lol <3 no probs hun!

  6. I may not have been a fan of Red Rising, but I can certainly appreciate Pierce Brown. Yowza 😀 Nice job.

Not having Instagram, I miss out on so many of these challenges and book tags as well. Stupid Windows phone. My next one will be an Android again. I never should have changed over. Biggest. Mistake. Ever.

Ooh, can't wait to see what you think of I Was Here.
    Happy new year Jeann <3

  7. Sam

I need to read the Bloodiness series soon! It looks superb. I still haven't read the Insurgent trailer, so shame on me. Alas. I will find the time to watch it soon, promise,

  8. I got some money and giftcards for Christmas, too, which I'll probably end up using, too. Also, I have this hoard of B&N gift cards collected over the years. Sometimes I almost feel guilty ordering fiction books, though. I don't know why, so I mostly order nonfiction books and borrow my fiction books from the other library. I kind of feel this urge to get the whole Tales of Goldstone Wood series, though.

    • Thanks Jess, I am definitely having lots of fun and discovering so many wonderful Insta accounts to follow! I Was Here was interesting, would LOVE to hear your thoughts on it.

  9. The Vanishing Game has had my interest for a good while now but NOBODY I know has read it, so get on that Jeann, I'm interested! Also very jealous of your copy of I Was Here, I'm interested in that too. I got lots of new books with Birthday/Christmas having just gone, but Apple and Rain was a book I'd won, so that's new to my shelves!
    My recent post Grand Opening!

    • Lol I will definitely pick it up when I'm up to a spooky read, it sounds really scary! Can't wait to hear what you think of Apple & Rain.

  10. I love it when authors like Tweets/Instagram pictures etc. It's fun when they interact with their fans. The vanishing game sounds creepy. It looks like the perfect book to read around Halloween, but that's a bit far away now :p

    • I know, I love the support they show for the book loving community! That's exactly what I was thinking Mel, it's creeeepy.

  11. Oooh, Pierce Brown is such a hottie, isn't he??
And maybe you should have asked for extra shelves for Xmas so I can keep asking for more books! 😉
And oooh that's a different trailer from the one I saw before Mockingjay!! I feel like I might enjoy Insurgent the movie more than I enjoyed the book, because I loved Divergent (book) but was highly disappointed with Insurgent.
My recent post Dystopia Reading Challenge 2015!

    • Indeed, I can definitely appreciate that about him too lol 😉 HAHA I was thinking I needed extra shelves, I floated it with the bf and he seemed agreeable lol!

  12. WooHoo, Pierce Brown liked your photo! That's so cool. I'm the same way, I'm always fan-girling if an author likes something, or retweets me.
I am so jealous you will be able to read I Was Here soon! I am so impatient for that book it's not even funny! Gayle Forman is such a good writer, and I can't wait to see how she will spin her new story.
Have a spectacular Sunday, Jeann 🙂

That copy of I Was Here is soooo pretty. Hopefully it's waiting for me when I get back to Australia! Good luck with your Instagram challenge 😀 sounds like fun!

  14. Woah! That is a good deal with Masquerade + The Ruby Circle, right?! Awesome. xD

I LOVE THE INSURGENT TRAILER. And ohhh The Vanishing Game sounds decidedly disturbing and awesome. I wasn't…a real fan of I Was Here and I'm so ANNOYED at myself. Everyone seems to be adoring it and I'm grumpy cat. Boo to me. xD

    • I know, I'd totally preorder if I didn't have Masquerade already! I love how PTA is sharing the love though!

I love the trailer too, but it was definitely a bit too dramatic in some scenes! Don't worry, from the Aus YA Bloggers group chat, it looks like not a lot of people loved it either.

  15. ChrissiReads

I hope you enjoy your new books! 🙂 I have heard great things about Gayle Forman's writing!

  16. That instagram challenge looks fun! I don't have an instagram account though. Not sure if I am going to participate in Read Play Blog this month, I am kinda drawing a blank for this month's topic as I already featured my wishlist last month and don't really keep up with game releases.
I like the cover for the Vanishing game!
My recent post My To-Be Read List #5: poll

    • It is SO much fun Lola, if you do join instagram you'll have to let me know! No problems Lola, some of the topics aren't for everyone. We've got our full Read Play Blog schedule up for the year on Anahera's blog I think.
