Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

I’ve been obsessed with Instagram as of late and I’ve also hit 200 instagram followers! I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with new angles and exploring how to take better book photos. Editing and good lighting makes a world of difference! The #hello2015bookchallenge has been going well and I’ve enjoyed thinking of new photos to take everyday.

You can follow my challenge adventures here @happyindulgence

Here’s some of my favourites from the past week:

My book rainbow post got reposted by Dymocks Books & Tara Eglington! Needless to say I was pretty excited.

Here’s Tara Eglington’s Twitter post:

I’ll have to read her books soon to support her!

Aside from Instagram, I went to a Nelly, Lupe Fiasco & B.O.B. concert last night and had a blast. He sang all his greatest hips including my favourite song, Just a Dream! 90’s hip hop and r&b is where it’s at for me, although I know it’s before some of your times lol! *feels old*

Here’s a video I took of him singing HOT IN HERE if you’re interested (click HD on the video).

Book Haul

I haven’t been getting many books lately which is a bit of a relief. I’m trying to slow down on my hoarding because I have well and truly ran out of room on my shelves. It gives me time to catch up on my other books!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – I have heard awesome things about this book and I can’t wait to read it!

Bookish News

  • Pre-order The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead at your local Dymocks, and receive a free copy of Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier as well!
  • Brisbane book lovers, your biggest second hand book sale is here! Lifeline Bookfest will again be held from 17-26 January 2014 at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre. Make sure you follow my tips here!
  • Twitter went crazy this week with Stacey Jay, the author of Princess of Thorns creating a Kickstarter for the sequel which included living expenses. Read her blog post here on taking a step back. It then exploded into a crazy controversy where everyone decided to step in with an opinion about it. Read her follow up post here about transparency.

  1. I'm glad you're having fun with Instagram! Best of luck with it going into the future. I must admit that I'm a little too addicted to Instagram. Yesterday, I decided to delete all my old photos because they didn't fit my theme. 😛 I can't decide whether that was a crazy OCD decision or a really crazy OCD decision LOL! ><

I love instagram too – but I haven't taken as many bookish pictures as I've should lately. I should do another monthly challenge! I've been seeing so much of All the Bright Places, and what a tear jerker it is – I need to check it out (although I'm afraid of all the tears! :D)
My recent post Review: The After House

  3. I'm hoping to get my hands on All The Bright Places soon. I've only heard great things about it!

I'm also addicted to Instagram. I enjoy taking photos of books and I love joining bookstagram challanges althought just not this month since when I'm too busy lately (and I'm sure I'll forget it until I randomly remember it at the end of the month… being busy just makes me forget a lot of things).
My recent post [STACKING THE SHELVES] Back to Hassling

    • I hope you get the chance to read it as well, it's so much fun! Instagram is fun, but it definitely takes a lot of time if you're doing it every day.

  4. I love book photos on IG! I've been trying to take better ones too. It's way harder than I expected! I've tried out VSCOcam, which I like quite a bit.

Your rainbow and Legend series pics are very pretty!

I'm hoping to start The Red Queen myself this week, after I finished Half the World. I've also heard good things, so fingers crossed.
My recent post Cover Reveal: Black Iris by Leah Raeder

    • Yeah, she seems to add a unique twist to her contemporaries, and they usually don\’t work for me. Review will be up tonight!

I love those bookish pictures!!! I'm trying to work on bringing less books into my house as well. And maybe stay off of NetGalley a bit more. I can't say that this worked well for me this week but it is a work in progress at this point. LOL! Have a great week!

I love instagramming books and writing projects and it's so lovely to see how you're stacking your shelves. I've been so busy that I hardly have time for free reading with balancing two jobs, writing, and full time work as a student. But recently I was reading the Mark Of The Lion series by Francine Rivers about ancient Rome and the arena. It's such a great series!

    • Thank you Ciera, I know what you mean about needing free time but at least you are getting into a novel! Hopefully you get a bit of a break to relax every now and then.

    • You should Laura, it\’s so much fun taking pictures and viewing others! If you do start one, I\’ll follow back 🙂

  7. booksbonesbuffy

I have been meaning to get into Insta gram since I love photography too. OMG I love your rainbow book photo!!!! That is so cool that Tara Eglington shared your photo!! Have a wonderful week, Jeann:-D

    • I know right? Sometimes older artists like to tour and it\’s great because I get to catch up on some old favourites! I love his music as well.

  8. My boyfriend offered me a book on Walking dead for Christmas, I learned reading it that some people who wanted to sell merchandise offered Kirkman to sell a Walking dead… perfume ! He didn't take up on their offer, fortunately 😉 Have a great week !

    • YAY that is fantastic, did you get a copy of it? It\’s a really great read! Haha I\’m so glad he steered away from the perfume, I\’m not sure it\’s the right audience lol.

  9. I looooove Instagram. I love looking at pictures of books, and seeing what everyone's reading/eating/doing. Lol.

I'm curious why I Was Here didn't work out for you. I'll be stalking your blog for your post.

It's sad, isn't it? How the Stacey Jay Kickstarter drive escalated into something ugly? Shameful people.

    Have a great week, Jeann.

    • So do I Joy, it\’s so much fun isn\’t it? I LOVE YOUR ACCOUNT AS WELL. I know, I hate it when I hear about internet drama and bullying, it always seems to amplify on the net. I Was Here review will be up tonight 🙂

  10. Lola @ Hit or Miss Books

Very complete and detailed post! I'm not on Instagram but sometimes I look at beautiful pictures, because they actually always are ;D Book rainbows! Pretty. Hmm, I will look forward to your opinion on Red Queen, very forward 🙂
My recent post Review: Through the Woods by Emily Carroll

    • Thank you Lola, I just love the pictures on instagram and it\’s so easy to use. Can\’t wait to read Red Queen too.

    • I know, it\’s so pretty isn\’t it? Yeah, the internet drama is a real downside of social media. I hope it will die down soon.

    • Thank you Ana, I might do a post on instagram tips that I've learnt in my short time lol. Will definitely let you know once I've read it!

  11. I can't wait to see what you think about Red Queen. I really liked it! It's very easy to get addicted to Instagram. I love to browse to find new pictures and profiles to follow 😀

    • Glad to hear you liked Red Queen, I'm hearing a lot of mixed things on it already! oh yes, it's so easy too to browse, literally takes a few seconds.

  12. Red Queen, I don't know about that one.. I kind of want to read it, but I'm not too sure, reviews have made me wary, I might wait to see what you think.. I'm sorry I Was Here didn't work for you either, but fantastic that you're enjoying Instagram Jeann! Bookstagram is a wonderful thing and I love it too! 🙂
My recent post Weekly Recap | 4-10 Jan. 2015

    • Hehe it is so much fun Jess! The challenge has been so fun! Yeah, I wasn't the biggest fan of If I Stay, but reading I Was Here kind of cemented that for me. So glad to hear you loved Red Queen!

    • Thank you Cynthia, it's definitely a lot of fun. So glad to hear you loved that book as well, it was so emotional! I did the same, although it wasn't in the evening.

  13. rlsharpe

Great photo's, Jeann! I love Tara Eglington. Her books are super funny and super romantic and great when you are looking for something light-hearted.
I'm really looking forward to Red Queen. It is one of my most anticipated reads of 2015.
It's really sad about what happened to Stacey Jay. If you don't agree with her using her money for bills and food etc, don't fund the kickstarter, there is no need to be mean and blast her. Do people not have better things to do?
Looking forward to your up coming reviews.
My recent post Review: Better Than Perfect.

    • Thank you Rochelle, I will be sure to pick it up when I'm looking for a light hearted read next time. Can't wait to read Red Queen! I totally agree with your thoughts on the whole kickstarter drama.

  14. I really like browsing Instagram for book photography. I try doing it sometimes too and I think I do well too, but yours is better 😀

I bought Lang Leav's two poetry books! I have been seeing and hearing a lot of things about it and I thought it's about time I get a copy. I'll get All the Bright Places the next time I get a chance to go to the bookstore. 😀
My recent post Hey! #5: Bed Potato Holidays

    • I know, I can't believe I didn't seriously bookstagram sooner, it's so much fun! Thank you Ella! ooh, poetry books would definitely be beautiful. I hope you do get it, can't wait to hear what you think Ella.

  15. Hehe, I've basically decided to avoid Dystopians from here after unless they come HIGHLY recommended. I'm tired of mediocre books. I've really slowed down with getting books too which is sooo good. XD I'm actually working steadily at my TBR. Who knows?! Maybe I will get a tbr of just 7 books at a time….*dies laughing at self*
    -_-
I'm keen to hear what you think of Red Queen. I didn't have a blast with it, but it wasn't bad.
