Read Play Blog 2

Read Play Blog is a meme about video games and books, posted every 16th of the month. Bloggers are encouraged to answer a discussion question, and recommend a video game that is similar to a book they liked. Hosted by Happy Indulgence Books & Read Me Away.

Read Play Blog is back for another month of gaming! With a new year and many new releases on the horizon, our question this month is: What games are you looking forward to in 2015?

Games I’m looking forward to

As an Avid PC gamer, I love chasing all of the new releases and getting onto the hype train. It’s fun that way because you get to discover and experience a new game before everyone reviews and you change your views based on their opinion. It’s also exciting because I can play multiplayer when many of my Steam friends as well. The downside to getting new releases though, is so many of them seem to be prematurely released and have so many bugs upon release that it really affects the gameplay.

Here’s some of the 2015 new releases I’m looking forward to:

1. Batman Arkham Knight

I am a MASSIVE Batman fan and back when it was released, Arkham Asylum was my GOTY. It made me cry, made me feel like a powerful superhero and made me cower in fear at the villains (especially scarecrow’s hallucination sequences!). I’ve followed the series since the beginning, and I’m really looking forward to Arkham Knight when it comes out.

2. Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void

legacy void

Although I ended up rage quitting multiplayer Starcraft II, the community has died down a lot after the last expansion, Heart of the Swarm. I’m looking forward to firing it up again though, it’s super fun competitively and I’m excited for all of the new units and working my way up the ranks. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the mecha hybrid alien race, Protoss as well in the campaign.

3. Battlefield Hardline

Gotta have a first person shooter in there. I much prefer Battlefield over Call of Duty because I like the squad mechanism and how it requires more strategic thinking to win over your opponents. I kind of missed out when BF4 came out, which I recently purchased the other day, so I’m keen on picking this one up. As long as I don’t need to drive any tanks or helicopters, I’ll be fine.

4. Grim Fandango Remastered

Not technically a new game, but Grim Fandango is one of my favourite adventure games of all time! I was excited to see the preorder come out for this one. As a Grim Reaper collecting souls and trying to save his loved one’s soul, it was just so much fun and had really snappy, hilarious writing. Check it out when it comes out January 27!

5. Tales from the Borderlands Episodes 2-5

In my eyes, Telltale Games can do no wrong. I absolutely LOVED the debut for Tales from the Borderlands which was released November last year. Following the arrogant, cocky Hyperion employee and a con artist on Pandora was just so much fun, they get themselves into so much trouble that they can’t simply shoot their way out of. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the episodes will bring!

Recommendation: Game of Thrones

I finally bought the Game of Thrones Telltale Game when it was on sale during Christmas, and enjoyed the first episode immensely! If you’re a fan of the show or the books, I think you’d enjoy this. It follows House Forrester, the bannerman of Stark. It ties in with some familiar events and was interesting playing a new house from a different perspective, plus interacting with the Starks, Lannisters and everyone else. Definitely recommended!

Currently Playing: Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright

I’m not playing any games at the moment because I’ve been dedicating all of my free time to reading and blogging. The last game I played was Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright which had like over 24 hours of playtime, I loved the mash up of two of my favourite 3DS games. It had a really good storyline as well.

Next month’s question: What video game character would you take on a Valentines date? Recommend the game with your favourite couple!  – post your answer, recommendation & currently playing on the 16th or anytime during the month and link up!

OMG I love this feature, Jeann! I'm a huge fan of video games so I'm excited to hear your thoughts on some new/old games. Wow I can't believe I have not heard any of the games you listed… I guess it's because I'm more of a horror games player. I'll check out Tales from the Borderland though. It looks awesome! I've only played their Walking Dead game which is amazing! It's so creepy but not super scary. Have you played it? I think it's best to play it with an iPhone. My dad bought it for xbox I think (or was it ps3? not sure) and there were more glitches and it froze often…but with an iPhone it didn't.

    • Yayy I\’m so glad you love it Leigh! Can\’t wait for you to check out Tales of Borderlands, it\’s fantastic. I absolutely LOVE their Walking Dead game, I cried at the end of the first Season! I play it on the PC which is fine too.

I love this feature, Jeann! I get to know so many new games esp. since I don't really follow many gaming blogs. I wish I could join, but I'm not really playing extensively right now. When I do it's very sporadic lol. BUT BUT BUT I am playing Shadowrun at the moment, Shadowrun: Dragonfall DC which is simply AMAZEBALLS. I have never played a game like Dragonfall and it was simply awesome. Check it out from Steam if you have the time 😉 😉
My recent post ARC Review: Golden Son by Pierce Brown

    • Thanks Faye, Oooh I used to play the SNES version of Shadow Run, I've heard a lot about it but glad to hear you're enjoying it!

    A new Layton game?? *faints*
    For the 3DS? *faints harder*
I really need to get a 3DS, I love the Layton games to bits. I haven't heard of any of the other games, though. My parents bought me a WiiU for Christmas so I've been playing that a lot recently and I love it!

    • YESSS I actually bought my 3DS because of the 3 new layton games, plus this one! What games do you play on the Wii U?

  4. LilysBookBlog

I am definitely not one for games and I can't even attempt to get a high mark on any game but these ones look pretty good and I hope you end up getting this one and loving them!

    • Hehe the Telltale Games ones aren't games that you get high scores in, they simply tell an interactive story – which is why I love them so much because I can relax.

Alohaa, I'm a new reader and I just wanted to say that your blog looks pretty cool and I'm going to be a returning reader from now on c:
Also, let me know if you want to do the whole follow on GFC thing c:

    • I would recommend any of the Telltale Games – The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us – they are interactive stories but so good. Plus I think they are available on mobile devices as well.

    • So do I actually Tanja, and I love how they are set in different periods too. Starcraft II was similar to Warcraft but it's a sci-fi version. Thank you!

    • Yes it is the final expansion to wrap up the series, we'll have to add each other when it comes out Ana! Can't wait to see the new units and everything. The mashup is great!

I'm looking forward to Arkham Knight too, though it wasn't on my list this time around. I haven't played Arkham Origins yet, so I feel a bit behind right now. I've never played Professor Layton, I've been trying to find a used copy of one of the older ones but it seems like no one wants to trade them in.
My recent post Read Play Blog: 2015 Game Releases I’m Dying to Play

    • I can't wait for Arkham Knight, I thought Origins was actually better than Asylum, although I didn't have much luck with City and still need to finish that one. Prof Layton is so much fun, I hope you do find a copy!

    • YES YOU DO Jess! There are like 6 games out now, isn't that crazy? I played the first 3 on normal DS back in the day lol
