Indulgence Insider #18 – Lifeline Bookfest Haul Jan 2015

January 18, 2015 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Exciting times this week – it was the bi-annual Lifeline bookfest which I look forward to every time it comes! Went twice this time, on opening day and today with Chiara and Bec. It was super busy on the opening day and it was hard to push between crowds, but I ended up grabbing exactly what I was looking for.

I’m finding the #hello2015bookchallenge on Instagram quite fun but challenging at the same time. Taking a good picture and re-arranging your books so they look good is actually quite difficult, I struggled a bit this week with lighting. It’s also quite difficult actually thinking of who your favourite book siblings, couples, etc. are, but I’m still having fun with it. Follow my Instagram adventures @happyindulgence

Here’s some of my favourites from the past week –

instacouples xmarksthe feedseries bloodlines

I also got some new games from Ozgameshop, I’ve been looking for Animal Crossing: New Leaf everywhere. Anyone playing Animal Crossing? Let me know and we can add each other.

Read Play Blog 2This month’s Read Play Blog topic was: “What games are you looking forward to in 2015?“? Link up here and check out my anticipated games for the year. Check out the topics for the year here.

Book Haul

I scored at the Bookfest! I was searching out the Fables comics as well as the Brandon Sanderson books after countless recommendations from Bec, Jaz, Nara and Faye, so when I found those I was completely stoked!

While taking my instagram photo of the Bloodlines series, I was actually surprised that I didn’t have The Golden Lily (must have read a Kindle version) so was stoked to find it there. Now I have the large format Bloodlines to match the rest of my series too.

All Our Yesterdays is to replace my ARC version, and even though I have the Harry Potter series already, I’m looking for the original hardbacks which I read and fell in love with. I’ve read The Immortal Rules and World After so was pleased to add them to the shelves Every Breath, Blood Red Road, Easy and The Summoning come highly recommended so overall, I think I did pretty well!

I also bought Blue Lily, Lily Blue using a gift card. So pretty!

Review copies – physical

Veronica Mars: Mr Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham – I LOVE VMars and I enjoyed the first book, so was excited to receive this one in the mail! Can’t wait for some LoVe.

A Small Madness by Dianne Touchell – I hadn’t heard of this book before, but it sounds beautiful.

Thank you to Allen and Unwin Australia for sending me these review copies!

Reading Update

blackice ringandcrown

  • Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick – I enjoyed it, but I thought the book had many problems. 2.5 stars. Review to come soon.
  • The Ring and the Crown by Melissa De La Cruz – I’m pleasantly surprised by the beautiful historical setting here, enjoying it so far!

  1. So many pretty boooks! I wanted to the bookstagram challenge, but I find it a bit hard when most of my books are in a different province ha.
Arg, yes original HP hardbacks are the best. I need to get myself a copy of All Our Yesterday still!! Oh did you hear, there's no more sequel/book 2 anymore…I don't know if I'm happy or sad, haha. I love the cover of The Ring and the Crown (:

    Happy reading!

    • Mannn, bookstagram challenges are hard lol! I don't know if I'll continue after this month, it's been great but yeah, stressful sometimes. Oh my gosh no book 2 for All Our Yesterdays? That makes me sad 🙁

  2. Lola @ Hit or Miss Books

So much bookish awesomeness. ^^ I wonder what you'll think of ''Blood Red Road.'' It quite took me by surprise…because, as you probably know, it does not contain quotation marks in dialogs so that was strange. Becautiful cover that ''Blue Lily, Lily Blue'' although it does not make a paranormal book title ahha.
My recent post Review: Playlist for the Dead by Michelle Falkoff

    • Thanks Lola! I've heard interesting things about it and every new dystopian that comes out with different language seems to be based on it. I'm really curous!

  3. danielleisbusyreading

That's an amazing haul, lady! I saw Bloodlines right away, which made me so happy (SYDRIAN <3). And Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Easy, and Every Breath are wonderful too!
Hope you enjoy your new books. 🙂

    • Thanks Danielle, I couldn't believe I didn't have golden lily! This is my 2nd Bloodlines book lol, I need the same size.

    • I\’ve heard so many good things that I\’m excited to finally read this series! I\’ve heard great things about Every Breath as well.

  4. I'm drooling! So many incredible bargains this week Jeann, I'm so envious of that bookfest, all states should have one. BLOOD RED ROAD! I absolutely love that series! Read it next, you definitely won't be sorry. It's incredible! I'm really enjoying the Facebook group as well.

Have a wonderful week of reading lovely <3

  5. NYZE@everythingnyze

I love BookFest! Have you heard of the RT Booklovers Convention. I would really want to join that but I'm not from the US. Too bad. Your haul is awesome as always babe 🙂 Have a great week ♥

We get the lifeline bookfest here, but it only last a weekend, usually in November.
You got some great books. I'd be so excited if I saw Blood Red Road. It's one of those books I've really wanted to read but never got around to buying.
Your instagram pics are really good. I agree that taking photo's of books is hard.

    • Ohhh that's awesome you get the Lifeline bookfest too, I'm glad to hear they've been moving around now. I know what you mean about blood red road, I hope it's good!

  7. readerswonderland

Glad you guys had so much fun! Wish I could have gone *cries tears into the ocean separating us all* SO many great books here. This has definitely inspired me to go to the book festival in my state though, I hope it's just as awesome. I really hope you like Animal Crossing, it's so nice in its simplicity.

    • One day Alise, one day! I hope you score big at your book festival as well, they are definitely worth going to. Can\’t wait to start up AC and have something I can play for a short time every day.

    • Thanks Michelle, I definitely have to pick up one of his books after all the raves I hear! Would definitely love your AC friend code, will let you know mine once I get it started.

    • Thanks Aimee, I wasn\’t keen on The Summoning but both Bec and Chiara were like READ IT and put it in my pile lol. If you like it too, it must be good!

    • I totally know how you feel, even though I had a pretty big haul I want to go out and buy all the books! Good luck on the ban!

    • I always have a good time with our bookish chats and hanging out 😀 I totally know what you mean, it\’s easy for me to go back but must restrain!

  8. OMG! Animal Crossing. I used to play that on my DS, but I haven't touched my poor DS in years.

You definitely scored at Bookfest. I've also had friends recommend Sanderson to me. So I imagine he's a pretty safe bet when you're in the mood for fantasy.

I know what you mean about IG photos of books. I see some that are gorgeous and have NO idea how they took such a good pic. I have a feeling Photoshop comes into play for a lot of them, lol. You're doing quite well, I'd say.
My recent post The Reading Machine [12] – January 18, 2015

    • Same with me Leeanna, I miss the peacefulness of the game lol! Hehe I don\’t think Photoshop comes into play, but the filters and everything just makes it so easy to make an average photo look good. I sometimes use my camera instead of my phone as well.

    • Thank you, I'm so lucky we have that massive second hand book sale here! Lol it's so hard to stick to a no buying book ban!

  9. All those gorgeous books! I don't think I'd know where to start. The games look fun too. My husband and I used to play a few different ones together and it was so much fun but we've had to put that on the backburner for awhile. I do miss it! Enjoy your reading and have a great week!
My recent post This Week in Reading – January 18

    • AWww that wouuld have been amazing playing games together <3 I do that with my bf as well, but it's not all the time either.

  10. I've been hoping to get my hands on The Ring and The Crown. I've read great reviews about it. and now I'm glad I never picked up Black Ice. I've never read Becca Fitzpatrick's previous series and reading through Black Ice's blurb… I'm just not feeling it.

aand that's a big haul. Hope you'll enjoy them, Jeann. Happy reading! 🙂

    • I've just finished reading it and it is fantastic! Yeah, I wasn't a fan of her previous series but this one was okay. Thanks Czai!

  11. Girl I can only imagine how it is to take pic everyday. That's why I don't participate in instagram challenges. I'm not that interested in photography and I don't have talent for that. While you on the other hand certainly have. I love your pictures 🙂 Also great haul and I will have to read that Sandeson's series soon. Great post, Jeann 🙂
My recent post The Sunday Post (#39)

    • Oh I know, it really is a lot of fun and has forced me out of my comfort zone but I find it stressful as well, because sometimes I just don't seem to have the picture taking mojo. Thank you so much for your kind words though!

    • I know, finding them at bookfest is like extra special though cos you have to browse through all these unsorted stacks to see if someone donated them! Thanks Pili!

  12. LOOK HOW MUCH FUN YOU'RE HAVING, JEANN! You've got me curious about The Ring and the Crown! But too many cast members, I fear I may be confused.

AND MISTBORN! I grabbed a copy for my brother so I'm just waiting for him to give me the heads up before I dive in. BUT EVERYONE RAVES ON! I read the Vmars two thing last month AND IT WAS SO GOOD, JUST LIKE AN EPISODE! I may have stroked the copy that came through in the mail. Wow, too much vmars love LOL Have a good week, Jeann! x

  13. GAAAH I'm weeping with jealousy!! Haha jokes! So amazed with your haul this week. I hope the Sydney Lifeline fest in July will be just as great, I can't wait to explore it. Hopefully it goes ahead because I haven't heard of one in Syd before!

I absolutely love the original HPs, they bring back so many memories and I'm missing 1-3 in hardback format. Gah!

  14. karawrites15

I enjoyed Black Ice, too, but yeah, I had a few issues with it too. xD Still, it was better than I was expecting! Ooh, I'm super interested in The Ring and the Crown. I've never read anything by that author before–but I'm really curious about this good. Good to see you're liking it so far, and I'm looking forward to see what you think of the rest of it.

    Enjoy your new books! 🙂
My recent post Sunday Weekly Wrap Up (46)

    • Hehe, sounds like a lot of people had similar thoughts on Black Ice – I actually rated it 2.5 because I refused to give it a 3 lol. She has some really beautiful writing, will definitely let you know what I think! Thanks Kara 🙂

  15. Ahhh, I SO wish I could go to something like that Bookfest! IT WOULD BE LIKE BOOKISH HEAVEN. *happy sigh* xD Ah well, maybe one year. *nods*
I'm collecting HP in that edition too! Love it. ^_^
And I'm excited you're liking The Ring and the Crown! I really want to read that one but I heard it wasn't so good so…I've put it off. >.> I'm still so so unsure about Black Ice. I really feel like I'm going to be annoyed at it but still; CURIOSITY. XD
My recent post Weekly Fury #40

    • I know, it's pretty crazy to have so many awesome books in one place, it's kind of overwhelming lol. Maybe one year you can come up here Cait! Yeah, I've heard mixed things about The Ring and the Crown but I'm really enjoying it. I want to hear your thoughts on Black Ice!

  16. thebigfatf

Great haul! I really want to go to Bookfest now! But I don't think my parents would want to let go everything to drive (or fly) me to Brisbane. I really want more book/author events in Sydney this year! Who do I give my inquiries to? Haha, loved the post!
