Indulgence Insider #23 – CONFESS and other review copies

March 15, 2015 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Hey guys, I haven’t been around lately because I’ve had a busy few weeks at work and have been catching up with friends in my spare time. Haven’t been able to post any interesting discussions or visit any blogs, but hopefully I’ll catch up soon.

I did my first aid course refresher the other day, which was a great to practice CPR again and a refresher on what to do in different scenarios. I’m the type of person who would freak out if something ever happened, so first aid would help me get into action. In Australia, we have to learn how to apply first aid to a variety of bites and stings from snakes, spiders, jellyfish and all sorts of other creatures! You’d never want to leave the house but in reality, we rarely see any of these things.

I have been doing 5km park runs every week as well and reached my new PB: 34.54 minutes! I’ve been running for about 7 months now and my starting time was like 41 minutes.

Also drew my instagram giveaway for I Was Here and Bloodlines! Congratulations to @maandyreads for winning my birthday giveaway.

Bookish News

  • On Friday the 13th, 2015, we said goodbye to a brilliant mind, Terry Pratchett. His Twitter featured his final farewell. R.I.P.

  • Aussie Competition: Recreate the Insurgent Australia movie poster and be in the running to win a movie pass! Ends Saturday March 21.
  • Aussie Competition: EB Games Australia is giving you the chance to win an Insurgent double pass or Adrenaline voucher. Comment on your irrational fear here.
  • Cover reveal: Winter by Marissa Meyer! I love the glowing apple, I think it’s fitting to the rest of the series but I think the hand is a bit creepy. November can’t come soon enough.
  • Cover reveal: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas! I just love how clean these covers look and how badass Celaena looks in this one.

  2. I haven't read any of Terry Pratchett's books but I was heartbroken when I heard he passed away on Saturday.

I know so many people who are such huge fans and it was just sad seeing that happen.

On a more positive note, YOU HAVE AN AMAZING BOOK HAUL.I hope you get to read The Sin Eater's Daughter soon and hope you end up loving it *crosses fingers*. It's so full of winn *flails*

Have a fantastic week, Jeann!! 🙂

    • I've read Good Omens, but it's such a sad turn of events. Thank you Rashika! I'm looking forward to reading it!

    Running? 5K?
I think my heart just stopped imagining that. Oh Jeann, you are my hero, there is no way I could ever do that. i'm a yoga girl, running is not in my blood. It seems like the ultimate method of torture.
i do hope you enjoy Confess and all your other books! I can't wait for your reviews for them!
My recent post The Last Time We Say Goodbye: Review

    • The funny thing is that if I told myself a year ago that I was going to start running regularly, I would probably laugh in my face. Haha that's what I thought the first time I went as well, had trouble breathing, took forever, etc. but it got better! Thanks Lily!

  4. danielleisbusyreading

The Sydrian books. <3 Beautiful picture. 😀
That's awesome about your running! I'm making it a goal to at least do some walking around my neighborhood park this spring. I'm awful about my eating/exercise habits. D:

    • Thank you Danielle 😀 Spring is such a lovely time to go walking! You just need to set a routine 🙂 Haha I eat out all the time…

  5. The Dorothy must Die stories are out? I need to grab a copy at the shops soon, I absolutely loved that book and highly anticipating the sequel. I've completely lost my thought with that Queen of Shadows cover. My goodness, I may have been late to the TOG party, but I need that book more than Air. Well, maybe that's a little dramatic, but you know what I mean. Oh oh, how will we survive until then? *puts hand to forehead and faints dramatically*
My recent post The Last Place by Michael Adams

    • Yep, go and grab it! I loved the first one as well. I don't know Kelly, I don't know *concerned for your health*

  6. pandora

First I love this whole post with all the updates and so much fun information on one post! I feel the same way, so busy busy I've been neglecting my reading (sad face) and I am a shame to say I have not been running as impressively as you have. I would most likely pass out if I attempt to run a mile right now lol That The Sins Eater Daughter cover is gorgeous! I've been eyeing it for some time. I love the pretty pictures of book display, I want to try it but yet have found inspiration on how to set it up. Lovely post!

    • Yippeee, I'm glad to hear you enjoy it Pandora! Hahah fair enough, you have to build up to running. Thank you!

    • Melbourne Breakfast is my favourite as well! Oh my gosh NOOOO that sounds so terrifying. I hate creepy crawlers :S

    • Thanks Kara, there were so many fantastic cover reveals! I just read Confess, and it was 3 stars for me sadly.

  7. WELCOME BACK, JEANN! <3 That first aid course refresher sounds super cool. I would be one of those people who would completely freak out and not be able to help if something bad happens. Heh.

Look at all your new pretties! Can't wait to see what you think of The Sin Eater's Daughter. The Haunting of Sunshine Girl seems interesting too, but I think it's told in diary/journal form with pictures? Yeah, no thanks. 😉 AND AHH AMOUR AMOUR I HOPE YOU LOVE IT!!

Really excited for both Winter and Queen of Shadows to come out. Personally, I really kind of hate the cover for Winter, but who cares? More Thorne and Scarlet/Wolf! ;D

    • Thanks Aimee! It was a good course, I have a story to tell you guys in my indulgence insider this weekend!

So many new books and so little time! Hahaha yeah I guess you don't have to look at the cover while reading 😉

  8. Faye M.

You're making me so scared to read Dreamfire! It's something I need to read soon as well and I don't really fare well with SUPER SLOW books. Like, at all. 🙁 And the Terry Pratchett news broke my heart, but the way it was announced was so sweet in a way it really gave tribute to his works somehow. I need to start his works to see what others loved about it! and I hope you enjoy your haul, Jeann!
My recent post ARC Review: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

    • Oh mannn, it was so slow Faye. If you read it, let me know what you think! How sad was Terry Pratchett's own Tiwtter farewell 🙁 Have a good one Faye! Looking forward to chatting this weekend 🙂

  9. jodiellewellyn

Great wrap up! I need to expand my own to take into account some extra around-the-web things 🙂

  10. Zoe

I haven't read anything by Terry Pratchett, but it's so sad about his death. 🙁

On a lighter note, I'm really curious to see what you think of The Sin Eater's Daughter and the Dorothy Must Die novellas. Happy reading Jeann! <3

  11. literateture

This is why I hate living in the Philippines we get limited review copies because of it huhu Harper is only active sender…My dream is to get copies from Atria books and Bloomsbury ugh! This is so annoying….GAAAAH I hope you enjoy your goodies!

  12. Yay for Confess!! I haven't even read the description for that one, but I'm still really excited for it. I'm looking forward to your review of The Last Time We Say Goodbye because I've been on the fence about reading it or not.

I love the Queen of Shadows cover!! I really want to get the paperbacks. The white is so pretty. 🙂

    Happy reading, Jeann. 🙂

    • My review for The Last Time we Say Goodbye just went up, it's 5 stars! I read Confess and it was a 3 star read for me. Thanks Kaitlin!

  13. downrightdystopian

The Sin Eater's Daughter sounds really interesting. I was a bit iffy about reading it at first but after seeing some good reviews on it, it seems really awesome! Confess sounds pretty good too. I've never read a Colleen Hoover book but everyone seems to love them! Have a great week. 🙂

My recent post Interview with Stephanie of Bookfever!

    • I've read hit and miss reviews for the Sin Eater's daughter. Oh yes, you must read a Colleen Hoover book! Her writing is incredible.

    • Yeah, I guess it makes sense with the Winter name hehe! Thank you Kimba, we're just in Autumn now hehe. Have a lovely week yourself.

  14. The cover of Queen of Shadows of SO lovely, it will match the rest of the series rather nicely! 🙂

I'm so sad about Terry Pratchett 🙁 I'm going to have to read more of his work, I've tried Discworld before but didn't get very far (I've been told to read it out of order, but omg nooo I can't!)

    Great haul this week!
My recent post Showcase Sunday #23

    • I know, it's always really sad when the world loses a great person. I totally know what you mean about reading out of order – I can't do that either.

  15. Being busy with work and real life friends happens every now and then, and taking a little break from the blogosphere can be good, too!

I got Confess this week, too, and I've already read it. I enjoyed it, and I think the audiobook will be amazing.

Have a fantastic week ahead, Jeann, happy reading.
My recent post The Sunday Post #23 – MUSE!

    • Yeah, sometimes we get caught up with real life once in a while 😉 thanks for the support Lexxie. Glad to hear you loved Confess, I just picked it up.

  16. Eugenia

It's great to hear that The Winner's Crime met your expectations Jeann – I'm looking forward to reading it myself once my exams are over. Great haul, looking forward to seeing what you think of Colleen Hoover's latest release 🙂 Hope you have a lovely week 🙂
My recent post Genie's Weekly News (26)

    • Thanks Genie, I just picked up Confess so I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for me. Hope you get to read The Winner's Crime soon. Good luck with the exams!

  17. I'VE MISSED YOU JEANN! Because I've been offline myself! Gah, hopefully we both get our ships running the way we like it soon! 😀

5K RUNS??? You're now my inspiration. Running was my thing last year, gym the year before. I'm exploring more high intensity workouts this year though so we'll see where that lead me! And I hope you like the new Hoover. I haven't read any of her new stuff in a LONG while!
My recent post Seeking Saturday's Read #26: Technological Catastrophes, the Declaration of "Once A Fortnight" and Getting Re-Inspired

    • Oh Jess I have missed you as well! Wow, you're really dedicated with mixing things up, but still keeping fit!

    • I know right, there are so many at the moment it seems! Yeah, I don't know about Love Bomb. I know Flirty Dancing felt too young for me.

  18. I'm guessing Dreamfire was the book you mentioned on your previous post that was a slow book? :p
I actually want to learn first aid too. I wanted to be a medical practitioner before but I can't stomach the sight of too much blood and goo and ugh. I just can't, but now after watching a lot of medical tv shows and gory movies I think I want to try. 😀
Because of Winter's cover reveal, I felt compelled to read Cinder that's why I bought Scarlet so that I have the next book ready. I'll look forward to your Confess review 🙂
My recent post Wait. Did I forgot something?

  19. I'm a million percent curious about The Guy, the Girl, the Artist and His Ex now just because of the title (I love those super long titles). xD Congrats on your PB in running! YAY! It used to take me 20 minutes to do 2.6kms (it's all up and downhills though) and then I got it to like 15mins. SO PLEASED. heh. Except I recently had to stop running and start training my puppy on walks, so meh, hopefully one day he'll be okay to run with me.
