May 3, 2015 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Yesterday I went to my very first Free Comic Book Day which was a success! So many free comics and got to finally purchase the latest book of The Walking Dead. Here is our combined haul, waited for 2 hours in line for these, but it was totally worth it for the Secret Wars, Street Fighter and Avengers. Also bought Fables, Saga Vol 4 and TWD Book 11 on sale in the corner 🙂 Thanks to Sarah for encouraging me to go.

Also had a great week of Twitter, stayed up late more than a few times chatting. Penguin Teen Australia had a Q&A for their latest PTALive, and they answered my questions:

There was this great troll from HarperCollins, followed by a great comeback…

I love our Aussie publishers. Here’s some other great questions that were asked:

Then the next day, there was #OzYAChat, hosted by SpeconSpecfic. Harper Collins, Penguin Teen Australia, Allen and Unwin and Text Publishing got together to answer a round of questions! Some of my questions asked:

Awesome FCBD haul! I'm still miffed I had to miss it, but i put in an order from Midtown and they let online customers pick a few for themselves on Monday. I'm trying to wait until I have some more money or gift cards before I grab a few trades like Rat Queens 2.

I love that the publishers held twitter chats! There were definitely some awesome questions in there.

  2. Your comic book haul looks great! I haven't read a lot of comic books, but I do like having both a story and pictures so you can see what's going on.
And that PTA chat sounds like fun and that's interesting to know they discuss negative reviews with the authors. I always wondered what happened with those.
That's so frustrating you lost your copy of Grave Mercy, I can't imagine how that must feel readign a book and then not being able to continue. I hope you can replace it soon and finish it. I am looking forward to your review as I own a copy of Grave Mercy, but still haven't read it.
Have a great week and enjoy your new books!

I've never really taken a look at publishers tweets – what a great post! Thanks for sharing – it was so fascinating!

  4. Yay for Free Comic Book Day 😀 I hope you enjoy your goodies! I didn't go this year, I had a math assignment to do instead *sigh*

It was a busy week with twitter chats! I didn't take part, but I did lurk a little. Lots of good questions were asked!

I must admit, I'm kind of curious about the Shadowhunters TV show. I didn't love the books, but I enjoyed them enough. And I'm sure the show will either be wonderful or terrible lol

    • It was so much fun Wattle! My first one was a success. Yeah, the show might be worth watching, who knows 😛

    • It was lovely to see you too, I want to see your haul! Mann, I just saw some of those earlier books I missed out on, like THE WALKING DEAD. Next year, I'll go earlier!

  5. Hi there… It's my first visit – we've got v.different reading tastes but lovely to meet other Aussie book bloggers!

I have to admit I didn't know The Walking Dead was based on a series of novels. I've watched a few seasons but am now 2-3yrs behind!!!

  7. Omgosh, I didn't realise you can grab so many books from Free Comic Book Day, I wish I went now bummer! 😛 YAAAY TWD 😉 I still need to get the full second volume and continue on with it.

So many great discussions on PTA, I wish I could have joined in but I have soccer on Tuesdays 🙁 Oh well, one day!

I hope you enjoy all your new fantabulous books! xx

    • I knowww, you should totally go to the next one! Different stores have different restrictions, but you could totally go to different ones around town. YES TO TWD VOL 2. Truly it is epic!

    • I think you could totally participate even if you're not Aussie Amanda! Oh man, so many great comics, I can't wait to read them! Yeah, so many people were meh on the Sin Eater but I liked it!

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY?! THERE'S A FREE COMIC BOOK DAY?! Oh my freaking goodness, why did i not know?! Thanks for the heads-up Jeann. Must google it now. Love all the books as usual. I got Dangerous Deception as well but I haven't read Dangerous Creatures so don't know what to do……..

    • No problems Faith, I hope you get to go to the one next year! It was so good 😀 Worth lining up for. Yeah, I haven't read DC and I don't know if I will either.

  9. rlsharpe

I always miss #OzYAChat and #PTAChat so thanks for sharing those. Glad to hear the publishers don't mind what form the review comes in, maybe I need to try my hand at reviews in the form of poems lol!

I would die if I left a book on a bus, you poor thing.

I can't wait for Amie and Meagan's next collaboration. It sounds so awesome.

You've got a great haul. Thanks for sharing.

    • I REPLACED GRAVE MERCY. So much happier now, just like it never happened XD no problems Rochelle, I just love when the chats are on!

  10. Look at all those fabulous comic books! 😀 I normally don't go out to bookstores during free comic book day since I'm not a comic reader. But I do check out the graphic novels on sale. 😉

It was so fun stalking the #OzYAChat! Too bad I wasn't there for the #PTAChat, heh. 😉

Oh oh let me know what you think of Minnow Bly. And Dangerous Deception! I didn't like book one, but I'm still curious about the sequel.

    • It was so great Aimee, I'm so excited hehe. I love graphic novels! You should participate in OzYaChat next time! Will definitely let you know about Minnow Bly, I'm still not sure about DD because I haven't read the first and haven't heard good things.

OMG Jeann, I'm like completely fan girling it up over here. I can't believe Simon and Isabel were casted for the show. I've been meaning to check with the progress of what was going on with the show soooo, SQUUEEE! Super excited! 🙂 and yes, I've never actually been to a Twitter chat so definitely have to make it to the next one.:)

  12. OOH, thank you for recaping some of those tweets! I did catch a few of them by scrolling through the hashtag later because I'm sooo unorganised and never actually get there in time. >.> I kind of hoped the publishers didn't pass on negative reviews. **gulps** But I guess that's good to know?! I LOVE HARPERCOLLINS. They're so hilarious and perfect. New life goal = be social media manager for a publisher. xdXD

    • No problems Cait, I always stalk Twitter when the chats are on. Yeah, it's good to know that they still expect negative reviews and I mean nothing bad has happened to us yet D: HarperCollins are awesome hehe! WHAT ABOUT AN AUTHOR. That can be your fallback 😉

  13. Eugenia

It was definitely a busy week for bookish twitter chats! It was great to have two fantastic, similar topics right after each other. The reading community really comes together for things like that, and it's good to see a publisher perspective on things as well. What a lovely haul – glad you had fun at Free Comic Book Day! Hope you have a fabulous week 🙂
