Read Play Blog #12 – Game World I’d Like to Live In

Read Play Blog 2

Read Play Blog is a meme about video games and books, posted every 16th of the month. Bloggers are encouraged to answer a discussion question, and recommend a video game that is similar to a book they liked. Hosted by Happy Indulgence Books & Read Me Away.

Read Play Blog is back for another month of gaming! Anahera is currently on a blogging hiatus, so I’m hosting this one solely this month. This month’s question is:

What game world would you like to live in?

My answer for this is definitely Final Fantasy! A world that is so different to our own and full of mystical creatures and fantasy objects and most of all, magic. There’s different final fantasy games, but most of them will have similar creatures and worlds:

Here’s some of the weird and wonderful things you can find in Final Fantasy:

1. Chocobos

Forget public transport, you’ll travel by chocobos while listening to some really funky theme music. Chocobos can come in different colours and some even come with powers.

2. Really cool hair and outfits

Final fantasy characters are known for their incredibly stylised looks, who wouldn’t want to go around looking fancy with your own individual style?

3. Magic Powers

White magic and black magic is a big part of final fantasy, and many characters are defined by the types of spells they can cast. It’s not Harry Potter type of magic however, most of this stuff is elemental and can help or hinder you in a fight.

4. Moogles

How freaking cute are these little flying cats? Moogles are smart, useful little creatures to have and many of them have helped adventurers out.

5. Ultimate Weapons

If you’re part of the Final Fantasy world, that means you’ll have an ultimate, elusive weapon out there that will be hard to get, but totally worth it. Guns, nunchucks, swords, bows, even summoning rods and gloves, there will be a perfect one out there for you.

6. Towns and Taverns

Each town will always have a tavern, inn, and item shops where you can always find a place to rest, discover the latest gossip or stock up on the latest supplies. That would certainly make things more predictable right?

Recommendation: Grim Fandango Remastered

I just saw Grim Fandango Remastered on Steam, and it makes me excited because this is one of my favourite classic adventure games ever! It has a really fantastic story, about a mexican Grim Reaper who has to collect people’s souls as they move on. His one true love has been kidnapped from him and he moves earth and water just to reunite with her again. Such a creative game and I definitely recommend it!

Get it from Steam here.

Currently Playing: Batman Arkham Origins

In anticipation for the release of Arkham Knight, I decided to go back and finish my game of Arkham Origins. While I loved Arkham Asylum, which was my Game of the Year in 2009, with Arkham City being a great follow-up, I have found Origins so far to be the weakest in the series. I get rather distracted with the side quests and data packs that I need to work and collect, but the reward of getting Enigma’s trophies are probably less worthwhile. I’ll get there though, but so far I’m only playing in small doses.

Next month’s question: What geek conventions have you been or would like to attend? – post your answer, recommendation & currently playing on the 16th or anytime during the month and link up!

Oh nice, Jeann! I've never played Final Fantasy (I loved the cameos in Kingdom Hearts, though!), but I've been wanting to check out what ones my brother has and give one a try. I think the outfits are a little bizarre but awesome, and the worlds sound so neat. Like the epic, most glorious type of fantasy world to live in.
I wonder how those Chocobos get the music going? Do they have *whispers dramatically* hidden speakers? The epic quest, to discover the source of the chocobo music.

Ooh, Grim Fandango sounds brilliant! Definitely going to watch that trailer.

Where to even choose?! I do love the worlds in Final Fantasy, but what game do I choose? I think I would have to go with either FFVIII or FF X (FFX-2). Ultimately, I'd love to live in the Mass Effect world. Especially if I had a ship like the Normandy, I would be zipping all over the universe! The downside is those nasty reapers and collectors. I could do without those…

I'm sad because I've actually only played FF13, but not the other 10. There is a remastered version for PS3, so I might buy that.

I'm kind of scared to play Batman hahah, actually, not scared but just more disinterested? I don't know I don't think it's my type of game hahaa.

    • Moogles are the best! Oooh I actually haven\’t played 13 yet, what did you think of it? Fair enough Val, I am a huge Batman fan so it\’s up my alley hehe.

  4. I haven't played FF, we don't really have the surverers here to play online games. But I really want to live in The Elder Scrolls world. Skyrim is awesome! I love the different races, the cultures, magic, just everything!!! 🙂

  5. My son has been bombarding me with E3 clips showing the new games. Need4Speed looks like a good time, so I live there. lol

YASSSS FF!!!!! I completely agree. Can I come live with you? Kingdom Hearts would be a fun one to live in for me. The ability to travel to different Disney worlds? Heck yes please. Have you ever played the Tales series games by Namco, those have a similar gameplay but cuter graphics hehe. Great post, Jeann 🙂

I've never played Final Fantasy before, although I did play a couple of similar games. I grew tired of them however, sadly. My type of game – though I'm not an actual ''gamer'' – is Tomb Raider. But I do enjoy some Dreamfall from time to time. 🙂

I LOVE THIS. Now I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fun most of the characters from FF are in here too so it was nice to see them again. And realllyyy?? Are the Moogles really cats?? Huh. I never even saw it. Haha

FF would be a pretty cool place to live in. Though I'll be honest Chocobos terrify me. Sure they are cute, and have the most adorable riding song ever…but meteor strike. They can summon meteors to kill people. o_o And Tonberrys…they are so adorable until you notice the butcher knife. Lol!
I still need to play Origins, I never bought it and I keep forgetting it's out already because I get it confused with Knights.

    • I totally agree…HAHA yes Chocobos are the best! How awesome are they, sometimes they are so kickass. The elusive Tonberries…
