Indulgence Insider #35 – August ARC Challenge & Giveaway Winners

July 26, 2015 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves, Bought, Borrowed & Bagged and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Hey guys, it’s been another tough week again. The boyfriend’s flu turned out to be pneumonia, and I had to take him to the emergency department. He’s made a full recovery now, but it was quite scary. It just puts things into perspective I guess.

I’m joining the August ARC Challenge held by Read Sleep Repeat! It’s not often I join challenges but I have SO many ARC’s to get through. No more library books or leisure reads, I hope I can get through a few during August! My planned reads are pretty ambitious but we’ll see how it goes:

Here’s my latest colouring masterpieces. Still completing the double page, it’s taken me all week…

Planning mode is underway for my next booktube video…I’m thinking I’ll do monthly recaps and other things in between. Hopefully will have one ready for you guys next week!

Congratulations to the following giveaway winners:

Reading Update

dumplin bitinbetween everythingleads hexed

  • I thought I was going to love Dumplin, but I didn’t. 3 stars.
  • The Bit In Between is a light Aussie contemporary romance which I’m currently reading.
  • Everything Leads to You was AMAZING. Loved the LA movie making setting, the enchanting Ava and the lesbian elements that just were. One of the best LGBT books I’ve ever read. 5 stars.
  • Hexed was a fantastic YA urban fantasy which I loved! 5 stars.

    • Dumplin’ has been announced as a movie! It’d be wonderful seeing this book on screen!

    • The final Mockingjay Part 2 trailer is out and it’s freakin’ epic!

    • Thanks Pili, I really appreciate it! I can't wait for you to pick up a colouring book. Yay, I'm reading my first ARC for the month atm!

  1. danielleisbusyreading

I'll be anxiously awaiting your thoughts of Stray! I'm hoping it's triangle free. 😀 If so, I'll definitely be buying the first two books.
    Happy reading, girl!

    • Thanks Danielle, I\’m looking forward to picking it up, but it\’s not released until September. I\’ll use it as a treat!

  2. inlibrisveritas

I thought about joining ARC August, but I probably won't. I don't have very many arcs to get through, and it's too much temptation add to them just to have something to read during that month, lol. I'm glad you managed to get a Fallout Pre-order! We just saw the Mini-Nuke version on Sunday and my boyfriend thought it was pretty awesome, though I did remind him he already ordered the Pip-Boy version…so here's hoping we don't somehow end up with two preorders, lol.

    • Ah you lucky thing, I'm kind of envious that you don't have a lot of ARCs to read lol! Hahah maybe you can get one each 😉

  3. northernplunder

I really really want to purchase both of the Fallout collector editions youve mentioned, they look so awesome 🙂
I hope you enjoy your new books too! Stray looks super interesting & I hope your boyfriend gets better soon

So many pretty books! I'm especially jealous of Uprooted!

And you have reminded me I need to register for Love YA sometimes soon.

  5. Kathy Martin

Glad to hear that the boyfriend is feeling better. I'm concentrating on review books for my YA blog and reading some books from TBR mountain on my adult blog. I'll have to put Hexed back on my Amazon wishlist. It was there but I removed it because I couldn't remember why I had added it. Come see my weekly report. Happy reading!

PS There's a link to my YA weekly report at the bottom.

    • Thanks Kathy, that's a good mix of books that you're reading. I shall check it out when I get the chance!

  6. I love those colouring books. I have the Enchanted Forest one of that book and three other ones. I can definitely sit all day and colour. I can't believe I forgot to watch the Mockingjay trailer until I saw it here! So excited!

  7. So glad to hear that Romeo is feeling better, poor poppet. I know the weather has been super crappy up there, so probably best to wrap him in cotton wool and strap him down for the rest of winter. Hope he's rugging up.

That's a whole lotta ARC's to get through, maybe start with the biggest ones first. That way by the time you're up to the shorter reads, you'll probably be sick of them and can breeze through them quicker. Looking forward to seeing your progress Jeann and good luck! <3
My recent post The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

    • Thanks Kelly for the lovely sentiments, he's made a full recovery and taking lots of meds now. Hmmm I'm thinking of alternating then so after the big ones I might need a bit of a break lol. Thank you!

    • I know, I guess I'm not a fan of the author's writing I guess? Anyway, I'll be reviewing it closer to the date. I loved that book so much!

  8. Romi

I'm terribly excited to read Dumplin' (and it's going to be made into a movie? WHAT? Excitement, excitement), although I'm sorry it didn't turn out to be such a swell read for you as you'd anticipated, Jeann. Sorry, too, to hear about your boyfriend's hospital trip! Hope everything's OK now.
MOCKINGJAY TRAILER. THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR LINKING. I didn't even know *whispers* I didn't even knowwwwww.
My recent post From me to you and back again -4-

    • He's feeling better now Romi. Oh man, I wish I loved Dumplin' more because of all the hype! Hehe hope you enjoyed the trailer 🙂

  9. Charnell

I WANT THE FALLOUT 4 NUKE PACK EDITION SO BADLY!!! Was nervous to order it as wasn't sure if it would work on UK console. I AM SO EXCITED FOR FALLOUT 4!!! My love for those games is infinite. I'm planning to take a large amount of my annual leave in November just so I can sit in and play it. IS THAT SAD?!?!? Ah, who cares! I can't wait 🙂 🙂 🙂

Good luck with the ARC challenge! I need to do that… they just keep arriving in the post. My pile has now become RIDICULOUS!

I've started my adult colouring book and I am loving it, it's so much fun! Love your double page, it's gorgeous.

    • I KNOW RIGHT? Man I just saw that the Fallout funko pops are out now and I WANT THEM ALL. I'm not sure if the console games are region locked? Might be worth looking into. It's not sad at all, it sounds heavenly 😉 after all if you're going to use your leave for something, it might as well be that right? Oh man, I totally know what you mean about the ARCs! That photo is just a small slice of the pie!

So glad to hear you're loving the colouring! you must show me how it looks!

  10. I'm glad your bf is on the mend now 🙂

That's such a beautiful cover for Uprooted!!!! I've only ever seen the other cover before (American? British? I'm not entirely sure), but this one is lovely and BLUEEEE!!

I'm going to take a look at Hexed, I don't think I've even heard of it before!!! I love urban fantasy though.

    Have an awesome week jeann!!!!
My recent post Stacking the Shelves (100)

    • Thanks Lauren! I definitely prefer the UK Uprooted cover to the US one this time! Have an awesome one too <3

    • So have I Krystianna, I'm looking forward to reading it! I love Patrick Ness's writing as well, not so much the author 😛

    • It's sooo gorgeous Jackie! Don't you worry Adult Colouring Books are topping bestseller charts everywhere, it's not just for kids!

  11. Oh boy. Those colouring thing's becoming popular, eh? I'm trying not to get sucked into the hype, simply because I've got no time for it. Lol.

I'm glad your bf's getting better. Pneumonia is such a scary illness. :/

Anyway, enjoy your books this week, and thanks for the shout out.
My recent post Hoarders, Books Edition: Episode 153

    • Yup, the colouring is all over instagram now which is awesome because I like seeing how other's colour too. LOL you'd be surprised…I keep mine next to my computer and work on it every now and then, then I get sucked into whole days of colouring lol. Yeah, he's feeling better now. I hope you haven't gotten sick again Joy!

  12. Rachel Lightwood

Oh my, I agree so much – Everything Leads to You is my favourite LGBT+ book so far. The MC"s job was awesome, I cannot believe how little I knew about it before picking the book up. And <i.Hexed was also a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect such an unique story from it but yeah, WOW! Oh, and I'm joining in on ARC August too. I need the excuse to read my ARCs… good luck!

  13. I hope your husband gets well soon!

I'll have to check out this August ARC challenge. I've got a couple dozen that I need to get through as well haha! It'd definitely be a good time to start catching up with my reading. I have a road trip soon so hopefully I'd get at least a book or two read during that time. I can't wait to see more videos! And thank you for mentioning my discussion post xoxo.
My recent post How I Feel About Diverse Books

    • LOL he\’s not my husband (although practically haha). Ohhh road trips are the best for reading! The challenge is such a great idea 😀

  14. Lisa @ Lost in Lit

I'm so happy your BF is feeling better. I'm sure that was difficult and very scary. <3

Yay! I'm so happy that you joined the ARC August Challenge too!! 😀 You know already how much I LOVE those coloring books. Already preordered her new Ocean one! 🙂 Hope you enjoy all of your new goodies!!
My recent post Let’s Chat: The Pact by Karina Halle

    • Thanks Lisa, it was and I'm glad we're past it now 🙂 I'm looking forward to the ARC Challenge, it sounds like so much fun! At least I'll have some accountability lol. I'm excited about the Lost Ocean one! I'm enjoying seeing your colouring on Instagram!

  15. Grace @ RebelMommyBB

    • I know right? I always get goosebumps watching the trailers! Thanks Inge, I'm experimenting and having fun with it so far ^_^

    • It was really freaky Christy, just to think where would we be without modern medicine! He'd be totally stoked!

  16. STOP, are you serious- AN UNWIND MOVIE actually happening??! Whoa, I am so excited, how did I miss this!? Thank you so much for sharing this! I shall try to calm down 😉 HOLY CRAP, and a new book!? What is happening and where was I?!

The Mockingjay trailer is so epic. But this is the last trailer- how are we supposed to live with that knowledge? Tears.

I am sad that you did not love Dumplin 🙁 BUT, your ARCs for ARC August look epic, so that's a plus! Uprooted, The Rest of Us Just Live Here, swoon. Also, I really liked Denton Little's Deathdate, so I hope you do too! And you have serious coloring skills- mine will actually look like a child did it, yours look like it was printed that way!
My recent post This Week At Midnight (71)

    • Heheh I'm so excited about your enthusiasm for Unwind, it makes me want to read it now! OH man, I can't believe this is the last trailer! Hopefully it'd be for an epic movie.

I'm looking forward to reading my August ARCs actually! I can't wait for the humour in Denton's Little Deathdate. Thanks Shannon, it's so much fun!

  17. I'm glad your boyfriend is ok! It's tough recovering from pneumonia!

Your coloring is GORGEOUS – seriously, I wish I had your skills – and it looks like the rest of your week was awesome and productive. 🙂

Feel better BF! Isn't winter there or something?

Happy reading & Make the BF lots of hearty soup

    • I know, it's so much fun! Yup, it's winter here, there's lots of nasty bugs going around. He's feeling better now 🙂

  20. MOCKINGJAAAAAY. And omg, I didn't know about the Unwind movie. :O I mean, I knew it was a possibility, but so many books are. (Like I didn't know until recently that Red Rising is truly underway !!!!) AHEM. Ah, I'm sad you didn't like Dumplin. I had a few quibbles with it, but mostly love. XDXD But I LOOOOVE Unwind so I'm really excited for this! I hope they make it as chilling as the book.
Awk your secret Garden is beautiful.
And so glad your boyfriend is okay. Gosh, that's super awful. 😐

    • I know, it's actually coming out quite soon isn't it? MAN RED RISING OMG MY FAVOURITE. Yeah, I don't think Julie Murphy's writing is for me! Thanks Cait, he's feeling better now 🙂

  21. booksbonesbuffy

Oh wow, so much to comment on! I love your coloring book! I've got to get one of those:-D I'm so glad you loved Hexed! It's one of my favorite YAs this year so far! And I just got a copy of Everything Leads to You, so I'm glad to see you loved that too. And I loved Uprooted!! Have a great week Jeann!

    • If you do end up colouring you have to show me your masterpieces Tammy! Man, I'm so glad I read your review on Hexed, I really did enjoy it. Everything Leads to you was fantastic, I hope you enjoy it! Have a good one as well 🙂

  22. aentee @ read at midnight

Beautiful colouring, that spread you did scares the hell out of me. I have been at it for a week and I still haven't finished one picture.

I'm really enjoying Spark at the moment, hope to finish it before Stray comes out!

I was never intrigued by Miss Peregrine until I saw that movie logo, plus it has Eva Green – now it's on my must purchase list 🙂

Thanks for the link up to the discussion posts, I love reading them!
