VIDEO: Recapping an Exciting January

February 7, 2016 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Monthly Recap, Videos

I can’t believe January is over! I feel like I was here telling you guys about my engagement just yesterday!

This month, I got my Nikon DSLR and I’ve been playing around with it, celebrated my birthday, revealed the new Happy Indulgence and got invited on radio. I also saw the 5th Wave movie which was super cheesy.

I’m super excited about my radio appearance tonight (7 February) at 7pm Sydney time to talk about Lady Helen and the Dark Days Club and Akarnae! I’ve been gearing up for it all week! You can listen to it on the ABC Radio app or http://www.abc.net.au/radio. If you missed out on the live show, you can listen to it here.

It’s also Chinese New Year’s Eve which is one of my favourite festive times of the year!

Without further ado, here’s my January recap video:

Books I read during January

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan – 5 stars (Review)
China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan – 4 stars (Review)
Reawakened by Colleen Houck – 2.5 stars (Review)
Burning Midnight by Will Mcintosh –  3 stars (Review)
Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay – 3.5 stars
Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes – 3 stars
A Madness So Discreet by Mandy McGinnis – 4.5 stars (Review)
Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen – 4 stars
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy – 2 stars (Review)
Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers – 1 star (I totally forgot to talk about this in my video)

Book Haul

Books for review on the left, books I bought on the right. Also my Lifeline bookfest haul here.

What about Aila and Jenna?

Aila has been busy with school, but she got by with binging the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson and 12 other books.

Jenna went on a book buying ban during January, but still managed to haul some books!

  1. Yay for a DSLR! I still have no idea how to do special stuff with mine hahah. Oops? Also, I did not know you hated Assassin's Heart that much! Will you review it? Because I am curious 😀

This has been a VERY busy month for you! The radio show was fabulous, of course. And I see those camouflage Hunger Games books peeking at me. I don't remember if I ever posted mine! I should check, if not, I will- they traveled so far to reach me 😉 Totally agree with you on A Madness So Discreet, definitely a good one!

    • It's so cool Shannon, I learnt all about aperture and framing and played around with the settings! I love it. Yeah, my Assassin's Heart review is actually coming up this Friday!

It meant so much to me to see you and Nick discussing it when I finished! Thanks so much for your support <3 I need to track down the first Hunger Games camouflage edition lol

  2. Oooh nice haul Jeann! Even though the UK cover of Truthwitch is kinda ugly, the spine is actually quite nice. I love the gold lettering! Your radio debut was so exciting and I'm so happy I managed to tune in live. Cannot wait for next month's chat. I'm so excited to hear everyone's thoughts on The Stars at Oktober Bend. It's one of my new favourite OzYA books.

  3. I love your monthly recaps, Jeann. They're really one of my favorite type of posts! haha, no book buying but you still got a ton of books. real slick. 😉 I'm so glad you were on the radio & I'm gonna check out the video now! I have Passenger, too, and I'm looking forward to what you think of Everything, Everything!

Looks like your Jan went pretty well! Congrats on getting your Nikon DSLR. That's awesome.

I did go spending wise on books in Jan as well. I spent under 5 dollars but still managed to get quite a few new titles for my shelves. 🙂

Aww, you're always so bubbly on camera, Jeann! I hope you're enjoying the new DSLR. Gosh, Crazy Rich Asians has been on my TBR for a while. So I'm so glad to hear it's as humorous as it appears in the premise. I actually just started a subscription with Audible, so I may decide to listen to it soon. Agreed! Saint Anything was different from Dessen's usual summery novels but still a really nice surprise. I liked how it had a darker angle, too. But I sort of hated, which was probably the purpose, Sydney's parents. Anyway, great video and post!

    • Hehe thanks Summer! I am finally learning to use it correctly which is awesome! I loved Crazy Rich Asians so much, it would be fun on audio! Yeah, I really liked Saint Anything too. IT really created an impact. Thanks for watching!

  6. aentee @ read at midnight

I hope your first radio gig went well, Jeann! I had to miss it because of Lunar New Year dinner, but I hope I can catch up on it somewhere?
I also really need to get The Weight of Feathers, it looks so beautiful!

    • Thanks lovely, I just updated the post with the radio link recording 🙂 I had Lunar New Year dinner too, but it was totally rushed lol!

  7. "busy with school"
    "STILL READ 12+ BOOKS"
    BAHAH priorities, right there. :'DD
January was such an eventful month! (I love how you forgot Assassin's Heart in your vid lmao) and February seems to be fun as well. Have the best Chinese New Year *makes monkey noises*

  8. YAS CRAZY RICH ASIANS <3 I've been pushing this book onto all my friends who don't read, and even they love it buahaha. Burning Midnight sounds like such an interesting concept, but the ending…lel. Sounds odd. Aww sad to hear that you didn't like The 5th Wave, I really enjoyed it because it wasn't just another alien invasion novel, but revolved more around human psychology.

    • YESSS you totally pushed it onto me and I didn't regret it one bit! I loved it so much, I pushed it onto someone else ASAP lol who's borrowing my copy. Yeah, that ending was totally CRAZY! I do think it was definitely complex but man, those aliens 😛 let's train human kids as part of a wave like what? Lol
