Event Recap: HarperCollinsCA Frenzy Fall Preview

September 14, 2017 by Jenna | Event Recaps, Features

I’m currently working in Toronto at the moment and I was really lucky to be able to attend the HCC Frenzy Fall Preview this past Sunday. It was a fantastic event that was fun and informative, and we were even fortunate enough to be able to have Angie Thomas, Becky Albertalli and Julie Murphy as guest authors at the event!

But let’s talk about the books that are coming out (in Canada) in the next few months. We started off with the contemporary novels, which were obviously the ones that I was most interested in. There are lots of upcoming releases by established authors and I’m looking forward to all of them. The ones that were featured were They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout (a Harlequin title), Release by Patrick Ness, Top Ten by Katie Cotugno, Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza, Here We Are Now by Jasmine Warga, Three Sides of a Heart (an anthology of short stories about love triangles), and Love, Life and the List by Kasie West. I’m super excited about all of these titles but I’m especially looking forward to seeing more about Kat and Meg Conquer the World because it sounds like a wonderfully cute fandom story. I was also a big fan of Jasmine Warga’s debut novel so I’m really keen to check out her new release.

There was one thriller that was previewed: This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis, which sounded creepy as hell but also really intriguing. I’m not typically a fan of thrillers and tend to avoid them so I’ll probably be giving this one a pass. On to the fantasy, we have coming out: Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows, One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake (sequel to Three Dark Crowns), The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano, The Last Mansara by Kristen Ciccarelli, Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings, and Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody (out in 2018). I haven’t been reading very many fantasy novels lately but Ace of Shades definitely piqued my interest. It’s the first book in a trilogy and has been pitched as for fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows. There’s no final cover yet but the preview cover looked absolutely amazing!

We then got to meet the guest authors!

I’m so happy that I got to meet all three of these authors! They were absolutely lovely and talked about their books becoming movie adaptations and there were plenty of funny stories shared. We got to hear a little about their upcoming releases and I am soooo excited for all three of them. There was a signing afterwards and I got some of my copies signed. Because I’m currently away from home and travelling light, I only had Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda and The Hate U Give with me. But the experience of chatting with the authors was amazing anyway.

There were also swag bags to take away and mine contained ARCs of:

  • They Both Die at the End
  • Release
  • Zenith
  • Before She Ignites
  • Here We Are Now

There were also some make up samples from Smashbox, an assortment of pins, an OwlCrate exclusive candle, a purple fountain pen and a bookmark of Firstlife by Gena Showalter.

There were also book-shaped cookies of Ramona Blue, The Hate U Give and The Upside of Unrequited by Sweet Pea Cookies!

I had a lot of fun at the event, so thank you to HCC Frenzy and Ashley for having me that day!
