Giveaway: Double Passes to Two YA Events at Sydney Writers’ Festival

April 26, 2018 by Jenna | Books, Giveaways

It’s unbelievable how quickly the year flies by. I feel like it wasn’t that long ago that I posted about Sydney Writers’ Festival 2017, but here we are in 2018. All Day YA last year was absolutely fantastic and I am sure this year will be just as fantastic, judging by the wonderful guest authors we have on each of the panels. This year’s All Day YA will be held on Saturday 5th May at Parramatta Riverside Theatres. There are 9 different events during the day and they feature a range of Australian and international authors, including Patrick Ness! Tickets to each event are $10 but we are giving away double passes to two of the events that will be running on the day. Of course, Sydney Writers’ Festival is not only about YA, so check out their website to see the full program.

Here are the events that are going to be running during All Day YA:

10:00am

From the Sidelines

Join a panel consisting of Sarah Ayoub, Tamar Chnorhokian, Patrick Ness, Michael Mohammed Ahmad and Rameen Hayat in a discussion about diversity in YA and the importance of diverse characters being more than just the sidekick.

11:30am

Burn the Burn Book: Real Girls in YA

Five amazing Aussie panelists get together to discuss writing about real and believable female protagonists without resorting to using stereotypes. The panelists are Alicia Tuckerman, Tara Eglington, Jenna Guillaume, Rebecca Lim and Kellie Phan (a high school student who will host the panel).

Writing for YA Books and Film

Jesse Andrews and Patrick Ness discuss adapting their work into film with Will Kostakis. You may even get a few extra tidbits from Patrick Ness about the upcoming Chaos Walking movie!

1:30pm

The Personal is Political

This is a panel that I am extremely excited about. Kirsty Eagar, Randa Abdel-Fattah, Alice Pung and Bec Kavanagh talk about the politics that affect them and the ways marginalised voices are challenged.

Architects of New Worlds

This is going to be the panel for fantasy lovers. Jay Kristoff, Claire G. Coleman, Jesse Andrews, Cally Black and Adele Walsh get together to discuss fantasy and science fiction and building worlds that will destroy your soul and make you question what you know about the world we live in.

3:00pm

#poetrydebate: Who Takes the Crown?

Omar Musa and Evelyn Araluen participate in a head-to-head poetry battle about all things poetry.

Bringing Imaginary Worlds to Life

This is another panel that I am especially excited about. It features many wonderful illustrators who I love: Chris Riddell, Shaun Tan, Levi Pinfold and Nicki Greenberg. They will be discussing what it is like to bring to life a world that they have never visited. This is one of the sessions that we will be giving away a double pass to (see below for giveaway details).

4:30pm

The Future of Writing

This panel is about publishing and a panel of authors will discuss the impact of technology on publishing and using digital platforms to bypass publishers. The panel consists of Jay Kristoff, Tonya Alexandra, Alison Croggan and Jenna Guillaume.

TeenCon

And of course we have TeenCon. We will also be giving away a double pass to this event (see below for giveaway details). TeenCon is hosted by Will Kostakis and features upcoming YA releases from a range of publishers who will showcase their favourites or more popular releases of 2018. There will also be impromptu competitions and giveaways.
