A world divided.A queendom without an heir.An ancient enemy awakens.

The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction—but assassins are getting closer to her door.

Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic.

Across the dark sea, Tané has trained all her life to be a dragonrider, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel.

Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep.

Today I’m excited to be celebrating the release of The Priory of the Orange Tree as part of the Bloomsbury blog tour! This is one of my most highly anticipated books of 2019 and I can’t wait to delve into it. Here’s 5 reasons why I’m excited to read this book…

1. It’s about dragons!

I don’t know about you, but hearing that this book was mainly about dragons was enough to make me want to pick it up. Even though there are many fantasy books about dragons, there’s not a lot of them centering on them alone like The Priory of the Orange Tree. This book features many different types of dragons that are veritable characters in their own right – and I can’t wait to delve in!

2. Complex world building

The world in The Priory of the Orange Tree is large and complex, featuring both Eastern and Western influences including characters from both worlds and the prejudices that they face. I can’t wait to learn more about how the world, the politics and the cultures relate to one another. The finished copy will feature a map of the world as well.

3. Strong female characters & LGBT relationships

If Paige Mahoney from The Bone Season series is anything to go by, the female characters in The Priory of the Orange Tree are going to be strong female characters in their own right. There’s going to be several different character perspectives in this book, and it heavily centers on two LGBT romances which I’m excited to read about!

4. It’s over 800 pages

This book is almost 900 pages and I love big, fantasy books that contain a lot of detail and takes time to build out the world. Samantha Shannon has a way with building a deep, complex world rich with lore and details with a lot of creativity when it comes to the world building. There’s also complex characters, and I can’t wait to sink into her writing again knowing she’s not going to fail me.

5. It’s a standalone novel

While I can’t get enough of series, you have to appreciate standalones for what they are. Firstly, you’ll get closure by the end of the book, and you won’t have to wait a long time for the next book in the series to be published. Even though it’s a HUGE tome, I’m excited that we’ll get to delve into a book for it to be wrapped up by the end of it.

  1. When I heard dragons and F/F romance, it was a no brainer that I needed to read it! I’m heavily intimidated by the weight of the book, but I am damned keen to read it!!

    Thanks for this giveaway! <3

  2. Anisha

LITERALLY SO EXCITED BECAUSE I LOVED THE BONE SEASON!! Also it’s so funny how there isn’t actually enough fantasy with dragons so this shall be a very welcome change! Also I did not know this was a stand-alone omg that’s so awesome – I’m terrible at waiting for the next book. I can’t wait to read it.

  3. ahhh I’m eXCITED because dragons and featuring queer romances and also I’m a huge fan of oranges. I’m probably going to be sad if there are no edible oranges in this book. But still!! The size terrifies me but I still desperately want to read it.
