Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves, Bought, Borrowed & Bagged and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

Happy Valentines Day everyone! I hope you get to have a wonderful day with your book boyfriends and stack of books! I tried cooking a big breakfast for the fiancée this morning, and it kind of ended in me running away from the oil splattering everywhere. It was good in theory, but it’s just one of those things that didn’t pan out…anyway, he did appreciate it thankfully.

We also celebrated Chinese New Year with the family, and feasted as usual. But because I had my radio segment, I had to rush off halfway through.

This week, I’ve had a pretty emotionally exhausting week, lots happening at work and in the personal life that has left me too exhausted to blog or interact much. I’m hoping it calms down soon.

My OZYAY! Radio Debut

So last week I had my radio debut to kick off the first OzYAY radio segment on ABC Radio! I was pretty nervous and it was a really great experience, but I’m so glad I had my notes to refer to throughout the show. I was able to talk about the books without too much hesitation. It was fascinating seeing Rhianna working and filling the segment and making it interesting! I’m excited to be a part of it all and will hopefully get more confident each month. Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in and listened to the show!

For those who missed it, you can listen to the radio segment here.

For the next segment, we’ll be covering The Diabolical Miss Hyde by Viola Carr, and The Stars at Oktober Bend by Glenda Millard. It’s on 6 March 2016 at 7pm NSW time on ABC Radio  or via the ABC Radio app.

ABC radio debut 7 feb 2016

Deadpool Movie

I also watched Deadpool upon release which was absolutely hilarious and over the top with the action – everything I hoped for in a Marvel movie! Ryan Reynolds did really well, he’s totally charismatic and pulls off Deadpool really well. He’s an absolute troll and doesn’t take himself too seriously, with the appropriate amount of cheese. The romance was also quite a pleasant surprise. I totally recommend going to see it if you love superheroes!

Reading Update

firstlife strings PsIstillloveyoufull

  • Currently reading Firstlife which has an interesting concept but I’m not too fond of the speech. Keen to see where it goes though.
  • I’ll be covering Strings for the blog tour tomorrow, but it was a really fascinating dark and haunting retelling of Pinocchio.
  • P.S. I Still Love You was a cute sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but I still had many problems with it which I covered here.

Bookish News

  • The big news this week is that the 8th Harry Potter book will be published, which is a transcript of the play. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the conclusion of the series, and we’ll get to follow Harry and his son Albus in their new adventures.

I've said it before but I'm so happy for you Jeann! I hope you keep on enjoying those radio segments! I hope I can tune in someday!

I absolutely adored Deadpool as well. I thought the romance would be cheesy but it was so wonderful!

    • Thank you so much Marianne! I'm glad that they record it just in case for people who can't tune in! I appreciate your support always, lovely. How good was Deadpool!

  2. * is mildly jelly you have when we collided (but so excited to read your thoughts!)

Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed Deadpool & congrats on your radio segment omg I went to see How To Be Single (it was corny tbh) which premiered on the same day, and I noticed a majority of people were going to see Deadpool instead. haha

So now I'm getting the tentacles jokes. XD And I'll say it again, wonderful haul, Jeann! So many beautiful books. I'm still loving the beautiful When We Collided, and I hope you enjoy Rebel of the Sands! Anna and the Swallow Man was such an interesting magical realism story; I ended up really enjoying it. 🙂
My recent post A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

    • Hahahha yess it's going to be an ongoing inside joke for a while! Thank you so much Summer! Jenna will be reading When we Collided, I'm glad to hear you loved Anna and the Swallow Man. I can't wait to read Rebel!

  4. aentee @ read at midnight

Ahhh I am still buzzing from your radio debut, one of the most awesome accomplishments I've ever seen by a book blogger.
The BF and I are hoping to see Deadpool sometimes this week – we're not too big a fan of superhero blockbusters because it feels a bit overdone, but the reviews for this one has us hyped.
Stars Above look amazingly beautiful, as does Glass Sword, I hope you'll enjoy all your reads, hun <3

    • Ahhh you are the best Aentee. Thank you so much for your support, I really appreciate it <3 I hope you enjoyed Deadpool! It was so much fun and totally hilarious! Can't wait to read them both, although they're further down the TBR.

  5. Omggg what a beautiful book haul Jeann! I hope you enjoy Rebel of the Sands – IT'S SO SO SOOOO GOOD. <3

I need to watch Deadpool! I heard that it's basically boobs, violence, and comedy. Sounds like a fun and wild ride. 😀 Plus, Ryan Reynolds *heart eyes*

  6. Jade @ Bedtime Bookworm

Woah look at you in the radio studio! So cool, I can't wait to listen to the segment. Thanks so much for linking it here for easy access 🙂 Your valentines cooking experience sounds like me anytime I'm in the kitchen LOL. I'm a terrible cook and my hubby does all the cooking around here – I'm a lucky girl in that sense! Otherwise I would be eating out all the time I'm sure because I'm a terrible cook.
My recent post Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3) by Leigh Bardugo

    • Thanks Jade! LOL yeah, I get pretty stressed in the kitchen. I have a few set meals that I rotate, lol. You are super lucky there – we both kind of muddle through, if it's not takeaway.

  7. Maraia

Is it weird that I feel cool by association? 😛 It was fun getting to hear you on the radio, and I hope you had fun, too! Also, great book haul. I'm really exited to read When We Collided and Stars Above, and I love the cover for Rebel Sands.

Are you looking forward to The Cursed Child? I'm kind of upset about it, actually. I hate the idea of sequels, because I don't want to see middle-aged, grumpy Harry Potter. XD

    • Hahaha awww you're too nice Maraia! You're cool yourself, thank you so much for listening in! Yeah, I am, but I don't expect it to have the same magic as previous books, especially since this one is a play transcript lol

    • Thanks Cyn, definitely it was so much fun! I hope you enjoy Deadpool, I personally loved it! So many great books to read, so little time! You too lovely.

  8. corrallingbooks

    You've been so busy asdfghjkl!
I'm super happy you still got to enjoy a nice CNY dinner~! Plus, that radio segment was awesome, Jeann! 🙂
I'm also really jealous you got a copy of Anna and the Swallow Man to review – that book sounds amazing <3

My recent post The Valentine's Day Book Tag

    • I know, always busy here! It was a nice dinner, thanks so much for listening lovely! I've heard great things about Anna and the Swallow Man, hopefully I enjoy it as much.

  9. Rachel Lightwood

Deadpool was so good, wasn't it!? I saw it last night and loved it. Not my usual type of movie, if I'm being honest. I mean I love Marvel (Captain America is life! <3) but it was more 'adult' then I expected. I heard it's actually R in America and I can see why. But the humour was on point. Ryan Reynolds did it justice!

And yay for your debut on radio! I actually missed it but will catch it up on that link later.

And what a haul! I got My Sister Rosa too and have been hearing so many things about it lately so I hope I love it just as much. Same with Glass Sword. I really need to get to Stars Above soon.
My recent post {Bookish Babble} My All-Time Fave Books & How To Get on The List

    • I know right? Ryan Reynolds did such a great job and it was obscene and outrageously hilarious and I loved it! Thanks Rachel, I've heard great things about My Sister Rosa too, which I'm looking forward to reading! So many great books have just come out to catch up on!

  10. kynndra

Congratulations on the radio bit, Jeann! That's an incredible thing to be able to do c: I'll have to give it a listen when I have the time! Gahh, so many pretty books for your haul, looks like you got so many great ones. I cannot wait to see Deadpool, I'm a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds and it seems like it'll be a riot <3
My recent post REEEEEEEEEEEEEAD IT! Otherwise known as Summer Skin

    • Thanks Kynn, it was an amazing experience which was so much fun and fascinating at the same time! I hope you'll enjoy Deadpool, it's completely hilarious and obscene!

  11. Rebel of the Sands, I've had my eye on that one for awhile, can't wait to see what you think! Congrats on the OzYAY radio segment, how awesome! I just saw Deadpool last night and I really liked it too, it was really different but in a great way. I heard that they were pressured to take some stuff out and make it PG-13 but I'm glad they didn't. Enjoy your new reads 🙂
My recent post Are you a fast or slow reader?

    • I can't wait to read it too Alise! Thank you lovely, it was definitely really different and I'm glad they kept to the rating, it wouldn't be Deadpool otherwise!

  12. I'm so excited for more of your radio show, Jeann! It was fun and I loved your enthusiasm. 🙂 Woo, I'm happy to hear that Deadpool was good! Even the trailer had me laughing my butt off.
You've got so many exciting books this week. Nereyda and I are planning on reading Rebel of the Sands and I'm looking forward to it. It's gotten a lot of hype so far. I haven't picked up Ice Like Fire yet, because of all the things I heard about it, but I'll have to re-think after the last one comes out. And When We Collided looks so pretty! I love that cover.
Happy reading, and have a lovely week, Jeann! 🙂

My recent post The Weekly Recap (178)

    • Thank you so much Nick! It meant so much to me that you guys tuned in from afar in the middle of the night! Deadpool was absolutely hilarious, the movie is just as good! Oooh, I hope you enjoy Rebel of Sands! I have a few books before I can read that one (still need to catch up on Truthwitch and Passenger!). Yeah, I\’ve heard so many mixed things about it. Fingers crossed. Have a lovely week yourself!

  13. Oh Jeann, now I k Leahy you guys prefer to go out and eat, it's safer 😀

Deadpool sounds like Hangcock, that snarky antihero type film. The hubster will probably want to grab it when it comes out on Blu Ray eventually.

HULLO MISS RADIO STAR! With daylight savings and Me going to bed even before all the old age pensioners, I missed the life show but listened to it the next morning and it was fabulous! Looking forward to the next show and will be caffined up and waiting to call in. Don't worry, I won't blow your gangsta cover G-Anne 😀 I'm hoping in the next few months maybe the show could also include books you've read and rate those too, rather than the two set books.

You'll be on tv next, then off to Hollywood.
Don't forget the little people, I might need to borrow some money one day 😀
My recent post REEEEEEEEEEEEEAD IT! Otherwise known as Summer Skin

    • Hahha I don\’t know about safer…based on all the food safety reports I see! Anyway, he was quite sweet about it saying he could taste the love HAHAHA. Thank you so much for listening to it afterwards first thing though! Haha it would be great to have some interaction actually. LOL don\’t freak me out just yet Kelly! We\’ll see where it goes.

  14. Sounds like a great and busy week. I love your book haul!! Wow.. There are so many pretty ones!
What an exciting Harry Potter news right?! I have been walking around with this smile on my face all week. Can't wait to read it.
    Have a great week 😉

  15. Grace @ RebelMommyBB

Yay on the radio segment. So cool!! Deadpool is one I am actually looking forward to. I have heard good things and I love Ryan Reynolds and TJ Miller. Glad you enjoyed it! Great haul!! Hope you enjoy them and have a great week!!
My recent post Weekly Rewind ~ 2.14.16

  16. Bieke (Nelly B.)

Congrats on your radio debut! 😀 I'm so excited to see Deadpool! Ryan Reynolds was born for this roll and has been trying to get this movie made for over 11 years and I'm so happy everyone is loving it.

  17. Congrats on the radio segment Jeann, that's pretty cool! 🙂

I thought Deadpool was fun but plenty of people seem totally shocked by the film – people really need to google him before seeing the movie, he's not exactly a cuddly superhero lol I like that they stayed true to the comics, though I didn't think it had much of a plot, it was a good starting point.

I'm looking forward to the Cursed Child play script book – it's been so long since I've read an actual play, what better way to reintroduce them to my life! 😀
My recent post The Sunday Post #1

    • Thank you so much Wattle, it was so much fun! Oh really? I haven't heard that feedback, my gosh it's deadpool not xmen! lol I loved it so much and actually loved his trolling throughout the movie. Me too, it would be amazing to read and find out what happens!

  18. Ooh congrats on having such a good time in the radio segment thing, Jeann!! WOOO YOU ARE FAMOUS. XD And omg I want to see Deadpool so so badly! I can't wait till it's out on dvd. AND OMG STARS ABOVE!! *flails wildly* Also I didn't really love Firstlife either? I kept waiting for it to get better, but….overall I found the characters kind of irritating. >_> BUT ANYWAY. I hope you have better luck with it. 😛

    • Thank you Cait, it was so nerve wracking but so much fun! Hehe I'll sign something for you if we ever meet Cait 😉 j/ks! Deadpool is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Yeah, Firstlife is kind of weird, like weird massive infodumps out of nowhere? Anyway….I need that luck lol.
