Indulgence Designs #4: Three’s the Lucky Number

August 1, 2016 by Aila J. | Books, Features, Indulgence Designs

3 dsigns

(It was actually going to be four designs but in oriental cultures “four” has the same pronunciation as death, which makes it an unlucky number. So three it is.)

ANYWAYS, these are three more underrated books that I think readers should give a chance! They’re like the quieter books that almost fly under your radar until you accidentally stumble upon it and realize how much you like it. Or at least they were for me. Some rules:

  • Some elements of these designs come from Free Pik. I do not own them!
  • All quotes belong to each respective author and publisher.
  • For personal use only.
  • Happy reading!

*cries gross tears* OMG GUYS – this book has pretty much everything, and all encompassed in a space setting. You got hella amounts of action and adventure, as well as a ship crew that starts to become family, and then an antagonistic romance that is absolutely so dear as you continue the book. I’m not sure how many times I’ve reread this book, but it’s been a lot. I need to start paying more attention and looking out for more quotes to make designs out of this book.

Traitor Angels by Anne Blankman

I actually reviewed the book on Happy Indulgence hereTraitor Angels is another super enjoyable book that has what I like: enough action to keep you interested, a mystery that you’ll become obsessed over, and characters that find their way into your hearts. There’s SO many great references to philosophers and ideologies during the time, and being a science AND history geek (#sorrynotsorry) I was very happy to see those little tidbits. The telescope in the design is one that Galileo drew in real life! And in fiction (this book), he proves quite an important character.

The Weight of Feathers by Anne-Marie McLemore

This is a book both Jenna and I enjoyed immensely! But going over reviews on GR, it definitely seems like one that has mixed reactions. I for one really empathized with the main characters (both of whom are outcasts in their families) and was touched by the emotions that McLemore managed to draw from me. I also almost cried while reading it, even though it wasn’t sad?? It’s just really touching and a beautiful, magical story of star-crossed lovers. I would say it’s the most romantic out of all three of these, too, and has the least action. Even so – MY EMOTIONS. ; u ;

Have you read any of these books? Have I interested you in reading any of them? What other books do you think are more under the radar and deserve more attention? I’d love to know!

  1. Aila as always your designs are absolutely amazing! That's so awesome that you've read Starflight a number of times, maybe I _do_ need to look out for it after all. I still need to read Weight of the Feathers too. Soo beautiful!

    • YES JEANN PLEASE DO READ IT (lol). I don't read scifi as much as I want to anymore, but I end up usually loving it. And thank you!! <3 <3

  2. Book Blather

I've wanted to read 'The Weight of Feathers' for a while now, I shall have to move it up my list I guess! And as a side note, I fully approve of a '3' list now I know your reasoning, also quality over quantity is a thing!

    • YAY, exactly right? I really hope you pick up The Weight of Feathers soon! 😀 It's just beautiful and definitely underrated, in my opinion.

  3. The Weight of Feathers <3 I absolutely adore that book. I loved how it wasn't too over the top with the drama and the rivalry between the families and I loved how both Cluck and Lace had that quiet kind of strength. Watching those two come together was stunning. Traitor Angels is already on my tbr list but I'll be sure to add Starflight to that list as well.
My recent post Review: The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

    • Yay, I'm so glad you added it to your list! I really hope you enjoy the other two.

WASN'T THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS AMAZING?? I really wished more people knew of it and picked it up! Cluck and Lace's relationship is just sooo sweet – definitely a quieter strength.

  4. OMG THANK YOU FOR THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS ONE. I'LL PRETEND YOU MADE IT JUST FOR ME BECAUSE THAT BOOK IS LIFE TO ME. LIKE I JUST CAN'T LOVE IT ANYMORE THAN I ALREADY DO. ALREADY PLANNING MY MARRIAGE TO THAT BOOK.

    • Yessss I hope you pick up Weight of Feathers! Seriously girl, it is sooo good and underrated. Definitely a QuietYA that deserves to be heard.
