Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves, Bought, Borrowed & Bagged and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news and discussion posts from around the blogosphere!

I hope everyone had a lovely thanksgiving! We don’t normally celebrate it in Australia but it’s still a lovely holiday nonetheless.

Sooo it’s no surprise that I’ve been shopping with reckless abandon, with all the Black Friday sales at all (retailers in Australia seem to have adopted this as a Thing, although we don’t normally celebrate thanksgiving in Australia). In an effort to save myself some money, I’ve been placing lots of books on hold at our local library – which is AWESOME btw because we get so many of the latest YA releases when they are out – including the ones from the US!

I have got some exciting news – we’re getting a puppy next month! Owning a dog has been a lifelong dream of mine and I’m so excited to pick up our little golden retriever. We pick him up on our 11 year anniversary so it’s going to be a great way to celebrate.

Other than that, I’ve been planning for the wedding next year. So far we’ve set a date (23 September 2017) and have been trying to find a venue for it. I also went to the Hexenhaus book launch with local author Nikki McWatters, she was absolutely hilarious and it was interesting seeing how timely the book is with feminism at the forefront. It’s a witchy book set in three different time periods, where witches are tortured and branded as demons – definitely sounds up my alley!

I have been on a huge shopping haul lately when it comes to books, despite having a huge library stack. Someone save me from myself!

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour – One of my favourite contemporaries of all time. Review here.
The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
5 to 1 by Holly Bodger
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
The Sky So Heavy by Claire Zorn – one of my favourite post-apocalyptic reads, that felt so realistic. Review here.
Night Film by Marisha Pessl – a favourite thriller of mine that is done SO WELL. Film noir and mystery and intrigue. Review here.
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – This special collector’s edition is SO GORGEOUS.
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova – Picked this up upon recommendation from Read Diverse Books.
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera – Just look at that cover.
Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell – reminds me of Cinder, so how could I not.

Borrowed

Here’s my library book haul from the start of November! I dragged Jenna to the library when she visited a few weeks ago. I’ve also read most of these books now, which I’ll review in my November wrap up coming soon.

OZYAY on Air – 4 December

I can’t believe it’s almost been a year of OzYAY! It’s been so much fun being live on radio and chatting about books with Sarah and Rhianna. We always have a blast even though we always have a difference in opinion over what we read. It’s been great exploring more Aussie YA reads through this forum too!

  1. Congrats again on the puppy Jeann! Omg that pic is just too cute :') :') It'll be awesome as an 11 year anniversary celebration. You know how much work they are, right? 😉

  2. AW PUPPPYYYYY! Congratulations! And also on setting a wedding date, my goodness, so much excitement! I am so happy for you, you deserve ALL the amazing things ♥♥ Also SOOOO many beautiful books! I may be completely jealoys, but that is okay 😉 Also, a year on OzYAY!? That is incredible! I really want to read The Sky So Heavy, but it is hard to come by here hahah. One of these days, I will splurge on Book Depository, especially if it is one of your favorites! Hope you have a fabulous week!

    • Thank you so much Shannon, I’m having so much pain from setting the wedding date because half the venues we are looking at aren’t available. ANYWAY I am really looking forward to picking up our little puppy! Hehe it hasn’t been a year yet, I think March will be 1 year, but we’re almost there! Which is crazy by the way. I still remember both you and Nick listening into the first one, that meant so much to me!

  3. YOU'RE GETTING A PUPPY!!! AHHHH THAT'S SO EXCITING. You have to post lots of photos 😀 I love dogs so much!! Brilliant bookish haul too. I looooooove Night Film to pieces. Nimona is one of my favourites too. The Oz YA anthology looks gorgeous, I'm super excited for it!

    • Yessss I am super excited! I will definitely be posting heaps of photos hehe. Night Film is SUCH a brilliant book! I knew I had to have it for my collection. Looking forward to reading Nimona as well!

Thanks for the blog recommendations and I'll make sure to check out your video with Jenna! 😀

  6. PUPPIES <3 these are SO cute, and I'm hoping you'll want to post a picture on Instagram or something, haha, I love puppies so much <3
What a fantastic bookhaul! I bought More Happy Than Not as well, and could't stop staring at the cover for a while, it is stunning. Though I am not sure how ready I feel to read it right now hahaha, it sounds kind of heartbreaking.

It's so funny, we're the same way here in Canada – we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in November, but our stores are more than happy to jump on the Black Friday bandwagon. The really strange thing is that we already have our own Black Friday in the form of our Boxing Day sales, so now we have two crazy sales days (and two days for me to completely avoid the scary mall crowds)!

Congrats on getting a puppy!! That is totally awesome! I can't wait to see lots of adorable pictures. I too have been requesting more books from the library and its awesome!
Hope you have a great week!

  9. I KNOW I JUST CAN'T WAIT CAIT! I'm not really up to date with the Shadowhunters so I'm looking forward to reading it. I mean look how pretty the cover is! Hahah TBH I buy books because of how they'll fit in my rainbow shelf too LOL.

  10. Transhaan

Wahhhh, that's an epic haul! With those library books too, you seem to have been swallowed by them whole! Happy reading! 😀

Those dogs are cute! Love retrievers… congrats! Bet you can't wait! And that's so cool your library has the latest YA releases… mine doesn't lol. Anyway such a great stack of books… I definitely want to get A Closed and Common Orbit. I'm only halfway through The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet but love it so far, so I know I'm going to want the next book.

Congrats too on OzYay- a year is awesome. And thanx for the link too- more for me to go read lol. Have a super week. 🙂

    • I'm looking forward to getting the puppy definitely lol! Not keen on the toilet training though. I know, I'm so lucky with our library! I'm so glad you love that book, it's one of my favourites that I've read this year! Thank you Greg, have a great one ahead!

  12. It's great that YA's getting a lot of attention at the moment. I don't read much / any but see a lot of conversations on Twitter and Instagram here in Oz.

And a puppy will be so cute. Though my friend recently got one and could not get him toilet trained. He couldn't go outside until he was old enough for some vaccinations so she was constantly cleaning her carpets!!!

    • I know, I'm loving how YA has such a vibrant community! There's nothing better than connecting over books hehe. Oh man, that's actually a good warning lol! I need to watch lots of dog training videos.
