Top 15 OTPS of All Time

February 15, 2017 by Jenna | Books

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’re each going to be sharing our top five OTPs of all time. Somehow, we managed to not have any duplicates?!

1. Will & Jem (The Infernal Devices)

I was going to go with Will and Tessa for this but, for me, the real OTP of The Infernal Devices is Will and Jem. Their parabatai relationship is just GOALS and every time I think about them, I get all teary-eyed and emotional. Their love for each other is just out of this world amazing and it was the two of them that got me hooked on all the Shadowhunter books and Cassie Clare’s writing. They’re the true parabatai in my eyes, and Will and Jem have pretty much ruined all relationships for me.

2. Maggie & Quentin (Disruption) – My Review | Jeann’s Review

Maggie and Quentin from the Disruption duology instantly became one of my OTPs when I read the books. They’re a couple who are a perfect match according to some complicated calculation of pheromones. And this definitely comes across in the duology. The two are so perfect for each other and their love for each other gave me ALL of the feels. If you want to read about a couple who you can really ship, this duology is the one for you.

3. Kaz & Inej (Six of Crows) – My Review | Jeann’s Review | Aila’s Review

Ahhhh Kaz and Inej. How could you not love the two of them together? I love how Inej brings out the gentle and tender side in the normally cutthroat Kaz, and that she’s able to see the good in him. And I equally love how Kaz would do anything for Inej. Even though the romantic moments in the duology are few and far between, every little Kaz/Inej scene and quote in the book made me swoon.

4. Simon & Baz (Carry On) – My Review | Aila’s ReviewOur Discussion Review

Rainbow Rowell writes such great romances but SnowBaz is by far my favourite of all the couples she has ever written. I love a good enemies to lovers story and Carry On does not disappoint at all. I love Simon and Baz’s secret obsessions with each other and all of the tension just makes their romance even sweeter. Also, do I need to mention that their scenes together are just the right amount of HOT?

5. Magnus & Alec (The Mortal Instruments)

I had a hard time choosing my fifth OTP because I had so many I wanted to choose, but I ended up going with Malec. This is probably mainly because I recently finished reading Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and I’m just currently obsessed with Malec, together and individually right now. The two of them may seem like an unlikely couple, but I really think that it’s this that makes their relationship even more special. (Also that Malec scene at the wedding in the show like gave me life).

6. Rose & Dimitri (Vampire Academy)Review

Although there’s an age gap between them, Rose & Dimitri have always been at the top of my OTP list because of the mutual respect they offer one another. They realise that both of them have their weaknesses and their strengths and they only grow stronger together. I love how they’re still focused on their mission of protecting Lissa, but they try not to let their love get in the way for the longest time. This couple is seriously my OTP for life.

7. Nina & Matthias (Six of Crows) Review

Definitely the underdog of the Dregs, I love these two because of their hate to love romance. They say hate is an emotion closer to love than indifference, and it definitely means that the two have noticed each other. It was wonderful seeing their slow burn romance evolve and seeing them eventually start caring for each other. I love Nina’s constant teasing of the stoic Matthias and she loves him more than waffles, which means a lot to this foodie 🙂

8. Cinder & Kai (The Lunar Chronicles) –  Cress Review

With the weight of the world’s responsibility upon both of their shoulders, these two still find a way to make it work. They are both incredibly caring, and I loved how Kai found Cinder’s awkwardness and unassuming grace to be completely endearing. Their fun teasing banter with one another and the way they support each other, even being worlds away is definitely c ouple goals. And even through the hardest obstacles, they still find a way to believe in each other and I loved that about them.

9. Darrow & Sevro (Red Rising) – Review

I know they’re technically not a couple, but their bromance seriously is up there on the OTP goals. Both of them completely cunning, ruthless and stopping at nothing to get what they want, I loved how they connected with each other over their common goals. They understand each other’s pain points and support each other through every endeavour, as dangerous and unwise as it may seem. If you want to see what loyalty and trust looks like, it’s these two who show it time and time again.

10. Simon & Blue (Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda) – Review

Sometimes being in a relationship means being in love with your best friend, and for Simon and Blue, their love develops over email. They disclose their innermost thoughts and feelings, fears over coming out and being gay, and just their thoughts on everyday life. I had so many feels when they discovered who each other were in real life, and the connection that they had formed was carried over. These two were so adorable and hilarious and I loved their easy, natural connection.

11. Nix & Kash (The Girl From Everywhere) – My Review | Jeann’s Review

Nothing smells more like romance than the salty air of the sea, or hearing the lap of waves on a boat. Traverse through time in The Girl From Everywhere with the spunky and headstrong Nix and the growing feelings she has towards her shipmate, the affable and charming Kash. His support for her throughout the book made me sigh in pleasure while seeing their developing relationship just made my nails bite in anticipation. Loveeee these two.

12. Maya & Amar (The Star-Touched Queen) – My Review | Jeann’s Review | Jenna’s Review

What happens if you’ve loved someone in the past life? Although the romance of this book was shrouded in mystery and secrets, that didn’t deter me from enjoying every bit. From the touch of excitement you feel once Amar whisks Maya away through the Night Bazaar, to the enchanting (and superrr romantic) scenes of them together as he introduces her to a whole new world, this magical romance – and book – will keep your eyes glued to the pages. Plus, he’s basically, like, King of the Underworld. That’s hot.

13. Shazi & Khalid (The Wrath and The Dawn) – My Review | Jeann’s Review | Jenna’s Review

I honestly have so much love for these two, and the wild rollercoaster they went through throughout the duology. Shazi’s sharp wit and quick retorts are always welcome, while Khalid’s more mysterious past makes for an intriguing love interest – you just want to learn more about him. Once their relationship gets rolling, their support and trust for each other was so lovely to see.

14. Agnieszka & Kasia (Uprooted) – My Review | Jeann’s Review

Another one of those BROTP’s (SISTP’s?) instead of just romantic love interests. These two come immediately to mind when I think of female friendships, and I wanted to include something more platonic in this list. (Although funnily enough, I’ve seen/read fanfic of them as a couple tehee.) Anyhow, this female friendship started out with mild support – more on the superficial level – and ended with each girl saving the other multiple times, as well as becoming extremely close. Kasia’s elegance is a great foil to Agnieszka’s clumsiness, and I loved seeing them come together despite their differences.

15. Vin & Elend (The Mistborn Trilogy) – My Review | Jenna’s Review

I love. Love. Love. Absolutely LOVE these two. They go through so much character development throughout the books and after meeting each other. Elend’s such a bookworm but eventually develops both physically and mentally, while Vin also emerges out of her shell of caution to be confident in her own abilities. I really feel like they bring out the best of each other. And I guess this romance isn’t that heavy, since the books have much more plot and magic and world-building to sustain readers, but the feels are still there. Trust me.

Fabulous OTP list, ladies!! I basically love all the pairs in the Lunar Chronicles and Six of Crows! And yay for Simon and Blue, so cute! And I love the BROTPs/SISTPs, I wish there’s so many more of them! Haha

  2. To my shame I’ve only read Uprooted. I need to catch up with all other couples. Thanks for sharing; I’m amazed you managed to not have any duplicates. Lol.

    • Hahaha and to my shame, I haven’t read Uprooted yet. Both Jeann and Aila loved it though so I’m hoping to FINALLY get to it this year! Hahaha it took lots of coordinating to not have duplicates but I’m glad you appreciate the effort 😀

  3. OMG I need to finish the Red Rising trilogy! I mean I loved Sevro in Red Rising but I've heard that his character gets even better in the other two books. And OMG I need to read The Scorpio Races too T_T. I've had it on my shelf for YEARS. But yes, flailing about all the ships from Six of Crows and Malec. *runs off to rewatch all Malec scenes from tv show*

    • It was sooo hard narrowing down my list of OTPs to just five! The authors are just hitting it out of the park with the relationships that they write!

  4. fullybookedreviews

I love how your list incorporates platonic 'couples' as well! Makes a refreshing change. I'm here for all the epic friendships!

  5. theliteraryhuntress

HERONSTAIRS IS THE ULTIMATE BROTP. I don't think any bromance could beat the bond that will and Jem have! And yes to Malec, I really like that wedding scene too! Shazi/Khalid and Maya/Amar are also my favorites, they are pretty different but has this same dark, enchanting, star crossed vibe in their romance 😀

    • YES. I don't need anything other than Heronstairs. Literally just give me a detailed recount of their day to day lives and I'd be happy! I totally agree about Shazi/Khalid and Maya/Amar too. The star-crossed vibe definitely appealed to me!

  6. anotherafterthought

Damn Jenna, I know you so well. Literally thought "probably Jem and Will #1– THERE IT IS!"

I also cannot believe I haven't read/finished Red Rising yet omfg I need to get on this Darrow/Sevro bromance. I cry because I have read the first 150 pages of RR like 3 times already and stopped for something else guh.

    • Who even would I be if Will and Jem weren't at the top of my list? LOL I managed to finish Red Rising but I still need to pick up the other two books. Sevro was awesome in Red Rising though.

  7. I don't know a lot of these people but I do love Magnus and Alec!! Magnus and the rest of the side characters saved the whole series for me because I wasn't a fan of Clary and what's-his-face.

    Happy Valentine's Day ladies!

    • I totally agree! Clary and Jace were just so flat, and they're definitely my least favourite in the tv show too. Malec saved the series for me tbh. And Simon!

  8. thebookprophet

Malec all the way. I love how it's portrayed in the TV show. Cinder and Kai are also my favorite ship from the lunar chronicles.
