Indulgence Insider #75 – I spoke on a panel & hosted Jay Kristoff’s Lifel1k3 launch [+ VLOGS]

May 27, 2018 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books, Features, Indulgence Insider

Indulgence Insider is our version of Stacking the Shelves, Bought, Borrowed & Bagged and the Sunday Post, bringing you this week’s haul, bookish news from around the blogosphere!

Wow. It’s been a super busy couple of weeks, where I’ve had some incredible bookish experiences! I’m working on getting all my vlogs and videos from the events up on my Youtube channel, so you can experience them right along with me.

I spoke on a panel about book blogging!

First of all, we had the Love YA event in Brisbane where I met lots of lovely #LoveOzYA authors, got my books signed and listened to them talk. I also spoke on a panel about book blogging and reviewing, which was an amazing experience! I freaking love the Brisbane book community, you are my people. I also got to meet Nicola from Walker Books and Catriona from Little Book Owl, after interacting with them for years on social media!

Check out my vlog of the event here or below:

I spent 2 days with Jay Kristoff!

Wait, isn’t he one of your favourite authors, of THE ILLUMINAE SERIES?! GUYS I KNOW. He was so lovely to chat to, humble and supportive and an overall great guy. Check out my vlog of our experiences below or on my Youtube channel!

Brisbane Lifel1k3 Launch

Photo from Brisbane Libraries

This week, I had the pleasure of hosting Jay Kristoff’s Lifel1k3 launch in Brisbane! I filmed a Q&A with him before the launch, along with a Rip it or Ship It video (with his characters), which will be up on my channel in the coming weeks! The launch itself went really well, I was so pumped on adrenaline and it was really awesome hearing Jay talk as usual. It was really surreal being on the other side – it’s the first author book launch I’ve ever hosted – and there were 200 people in attendance! We got down to some interesting discussions about the A.I. nature of his book, how it was based off WWII Russian history, and the questions of morality that he wanted to explore. An in-depth wrap up of our discussion is up on the Brisbane Libraries blog.

A very big thank you to Jay Kristoff, Allen & Unwin and Brisbane Libraries for inviting me to the launch!

The Name of the Book Club

The following day, Jay Kristoff was actually a special guest at our Name of the Book Club (that’s right, our book club that we started a few months ago) where we talked about Lifel1k3. It was so much fun, he put up with our weird questions (trust me, there were many) and everyone fangirling over him the whole time. It’s not often that you get to have an indepth conversation with an author about his thought pattern behind writing a book, WITH SPOILERS. Seriously we got to hear some pretty exciting things about what’s coming up for his Lifel1k3 series and how it was inspired off some pretty cool franchises. Which I shall not share with you, because you know, spoilers.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the launch, my fellow host Piera and those who helped me out on the day!

In retrospect

When I started blogging just under six years ago, who knew that I would one day be sharing my experiences with others as part of a Writer’s Festival, and hosting the book launch of one of my favourite authors of ALL TIME? I seriously cannot believe this is my life now, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me which has helped me come this far. I’m forever thankful to my co-bloggers Aila and Jenna, and for everyone else in the blogging and reading world.

When I’m busy at work, stressed with life, blogging is the one thing that I can come home at the end of the day and be proud of. This is my light at the end of the tunnel and the inspiration that keeps me going when sometimes you question the point of…everything. The last few weeks have been an emotional journey, and I’m so glad that I have you all to share it with. Love you all.

  1. Jeann well done! Being a blogger is hard, and many who aren’t don’t realise the hard work and effort it takes to blog! I’m glad your hard work is reaping it’s rewards.

I got to meet Jay at his signing and he’s exactly as you described him, very humble and down to earth! It was a fantastic opportunity to meet him.

    Wonderful post!
