My Book Blogging Presentations at Whitsunday Voices

August 13, 2019 by Jeann @ Happy Indulgence | Books

Annnnd we’re back from our first family trip together! We headed up to Mackay in North Queensland for the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival and had an incredible time.

Late last year, I was asked by the Whitsunday Voices team to become a speaker at the event to speak about book blogging, and I was incredibly excited! My husband took a few days off and looked after Amelia while we were on our trip, and now looking back at it, I’m really glad we went! I had one of the most incredible moments in my blogging career and I will always remember it for a long time to come.

The festival was held across four days, and during the festival, I presented to almost 1000 students about my book blogging journey. Six sessions were held across two days, and it was definitely a tiring! However, the audience was incredibly enthusiastic and engaged, and it was just incredible soaking up the energy that they had for reading and literature. Never would I have imagined that I would be presenting to hundreds of people about my book blogging journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experience.

The 15 authors were also a fantastic bunch of people to hang out with over the course of the event – down to earth, enthusiastic and passionate about what they did. From illustrators, to successful children’s authors, slam poetry creators and other creators, it was just amazing meeting and hearing about their journeys. I was so grateful to gain some insight and advice into the publishing industry and into making a living as an author. I enjoyed the festival so much that it’s inspired me to focus on what I really want to be doing, which is sharing the love of books, inspiring others whether that’s through speaking, writing, or just being passionate about what I do.

Meeting Li Cunxin, keynote speaker for Whitsunday Voices

We also met Li Cunxin, the author of Mao’s Last Dancer, who had such an incredible life story to share. Through his keynote speech, he talked about his difficult childhood living in Mao’s China, below the poverty line. What an incredible and inspiring journey he’s had throughout his life. There were definitely a lot of tears during his presentation and I was in awe that we got to meet and hear from him.

A big thank you to the organisers, staff, students, volunteers and the attendees of the Whitsunday Voices festival!

I am available to speak at events about book blogging, book reviewing, growing an online audience and content creation, or to host any author launches.

Feel free to contact me for any speaking opportunities in Queensland or Australia.
