A fresh, irresistible rom-com from debut author Emma Lord about the chances we take, the paths life can lead us on, and how love can be found in the opposite place you expected.
Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming ― mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account.
Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side. When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli. His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time.
All’s fair in love and cheese ― that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war. Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life ― on an anonymous chat app Jack built.
As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate ― people on the internet are shipping them?? ― their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.

Tweet Cute was such a cute book! It was simultaneously exactly what I had expected and nothing like I thought it would be. There were a few twists and turns in it that I didn’t see coming and it was really fun to read.

The novel follows Pepper, who occasionally helps with the social media for her parents’ giant burger chain, Big League Burger, and Jack whose family owns a local deli called Girl Cheesing. When it appears that Big League Burger’s new grilled cheese offering is a rip off of the grilled cheese that Girl Cheesing has sold for decades, a Twitter war breaks out between Big League Burger and Girl Cheesing. Or should I say Pepper and Jack? Despite their animosity against each other on Twitter, they begin falling for each other through an anonymous chat app that Jack created for those at his high school. Throw in the fact that Pepper and Jack have to interact with each other in real life for their swim and dive teams, and things get very interesting.

I loved how fun the story was. It was light-hearted and full of interesting twists. Despite the book not being that long, it was jam-packed with action. There wasn’t really a chapter where something wasn’t happening and it kept me invested in the characters and their ‘will they, won’t they’ romance. It doesn’t help that enemies to lovers and friends to lovers are two of my favourite tropes. Emma Lord does it so well in Tweet Cute. I’m not sure how believable the story was though, considering that Pepper and Jack have interactions across three different methods. It just seems way too “meant to be”. I still ended up enjoying the story though when I didn’t think too much about it.

It took me a little while to warm to Pepper but you can’t help but love her. She’s super motivated and hardworking. Plus she’s an experimental baker and there’s a sweet treat for every occasion like her So Sorry Blondies! Her character development throughout the book is fantastic and behind all her serious facade, she’s sassy and fierce. I also enjoyed how she opened up and created new friendships with others around her, especially her swim teammate, Pooja. I loved Jack from the very beginning and thought his character was so interesting. He has a twin brother, Ethan, and I enjoyed the exploration of sibling rivalry between the two. I liked Jack’s goofiness but appreciated his dedication to his family and to making his dreams come true.

Tweet Cute was sweet, cute, fun and all things great about contemporary YA. Pepper and Jack were characters that you couldn’t help but root for and the slow burn of their relationship amazing to read about.
