I cannot believe it is Happy Indulgence’s 8 year blogoversary! I think we were celebrating 3 or 4 years (which is still a huge feat) when I joined Happy Indulgence as a co-blogger but 8 years is massive! Congratulations to Jeann and I’m so happy that I get to share in each one of these blogoversary celebrations.
Today, I thought I would share 8 books or series that I associate with Happy Indulgence for various reasons. It’s a nice way to look back and think about how the blog and our reading tastes have evolved (or stayed the same). I’ll also be doing a giveaway at the end of the post, so stay tuned!
1. The Illuminae Files
Of course I had to include this one at the top of my list! This is one of Jeann’s top recommended series and she talks about it non-stop. She absolutely loves sci-fi and space books and will never stop raving about the Illuminae Files. I think she actually owns multiple copies of each book and has listened to all the audiobooks too. I wonder what she’ll say when she finds out I never finished Obsidio…
2. The Infernal Devices
I included this one because it’s my all-time favourite series. I adooooore this trilogy so much and it’s my favourite of all of the Shadowhunter books. Bec also is a fan of the series and I think we’re all going to do a buddy read of it soon. I’m so glad that after 5 years I have managed to pressure Jeann into starting the series and now I just need to prod her to finish it!
3. The Poppy War
If there is one book that Jeann has hyped over the past year, it would be The Poppy War. I’m sad to admit that I haven’t had a chance to pick this one up yet despite hearing countless amazing things about it. But I’m sure that once I do, I will also be ranting and raving about it! Also, now that Burning God is only a few months away from coming out, perhaps I really will finally pick it up?
4. Lady Helen and the Dark Days Club
Jeann, Aila and I buddy read this a few years back and did one of our very first discussion reviews on it. It was a book that Jeann had DNFed and mailed to Aila, and after I received a review copy, we all decided to buddy read and review it together. This book brought us so much laughter and fun because of all the descriptions of “tentacles”. You’ll have to read our discussion review for all the hilarity! We all ended up enjoying it for various reasons and I have also reviewed the sequel, Lady Helen and the Dark Days Pact. I’ve yet to finish the trilogy but Bec says that it was great and has some crazy twists!
5. Six of Crows
This one is a no brainer. We all love Six of Crows here at Happy Indulgence. The entire cast of characters were perfect and we’re all highly anticipating the Shadow and Bone Netflix series. I don’t even know how many different editions of Six of Crows Jeann owns, but I remember that she has an entire shelf dedicated to the world, including lots of lots of Nikolai merch.
6. Stalking Jack the Ripper
Stalking Jack the Ripper was a series that I found out about from hearing Jeann and Aila raving about it. They prompted me to pick up the audiobooks and I absolutely loved reading about Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell’s adventures. Aila even made a whole series of wallpapers that can be downloaded from the original post.
7. When Dimple Met Rishi
When Dimple Met Rishi is a book that I strongly associate with Happy Indulgence because Aila drew a lot of fanart for the book and made us all completely obsessed with it. If I remember correctly, Jeann and I ended up buddy reading this and we also fell in love with the characters and the story, and ended up writing a discussion review for it.
8. American Panda
This one is slightly narcissistic on my part but the cover model is pretty much my doppelganger. Not only that, I found out from the author herself that the cover model is also called Jenna! We all ended up picking up the book because of the cover and the Asian rep, and really enjoyed the read. You can read our discussion review here.

Ahh I’m getting so nostalgic! Our discussion reviews were soo fun omg – they were probably my peak blogging days. Honestly I haven’t finished the Lady Helen series yet (they so thick and I forgot a lot of what happened rip) but I need to lol. Happy 8 years everyone!!
Gosh the discussion reviews were fun – though half the time I didn’t really have any thoughts to add haha. And yes, I still really need to finish Lady Helen but I can’t remember a damn thing besides the tentacles!!

8 years is such an amazing achievement and I love a lot of the books you’ve featured in this post. I feel like Six of Crows is such a staple in the book blogging community in general haha. I’ve got the Poppy War on my tbr list, but I feel like I need to be in the right frame of mind to read it haha.

Haha I agree – is there anyone who doesn’t love Six of Crows? This blog post has made me want to reread all of the books on this list… or read them for the first time! I really need to pick up The Poppy War, especially now that Jeann is really putting on the pressure. But, like you, I feel like I need to be in the right mood before I can pick it up.

Thanks so much Hasini! I also couldn’t believe we reviewed this many books last year either! I thought it was going to be a short list, which is why I typed them out but it was double the length of what I thought it was going to be!
