Jenna’s Reading and Personal Goals for 2022

January 20, 2022 by Jenna | Books, Features

I’m not really one for resolutions but I do occasionally like setting some broad goals. I don’t really do monthly or weekly goals like a lot of bullet journallers or planners do but I’ve enjoyed having a daily routine and some structure so far in 2022.

Also, I decided to not do a post on what planners I’m using this year, a post that I’ve done for the past few years. But in case you were wondering, I’m only bullet journalling this year and I’m using a forest green coloured Archer & Olive notebook.

My reading goals for 2022 are pretty simple:

Read 100 books this year

I had a pretty good reading year last year, completing my Goodreads goal for the first time in 3 years! This was mainly thanks to me getting into contemporary romances in the second half of the year (I think I read over 100 books from August to December, only a handful of which were YA). I’m hoping to keep the reading streak going this year and I’m really excited for a lot of the contemporary romances that are dropping this year.

Pre-schedule more blog posts

I’m also hoping to be more proactive with my reviewing and blogging this year. Over the last two years, I’ve been really lazy with blogging and have written my blog posts at the very last minute (hehe this one included). I’m hoping to be able to review and schedule more posts in advance to keep the stress off my shoulders.

My personal goals are a little bit random but mainly relate to some hobbies and interests that I have.

Learn German

I’ve been learning German through Duolingo for the past 2 weeks and have been really enjoying it – so much so that I even purchased a subscription to Duolingo Plus. I did French and Japanese in high school but wasn’t exposed to much German, so I’m really excited to learn it now. I decided on German because I figured it would share many similarities with English and would be easier to learn. Plus, one of my colleagues and a few of my friends speak German and I think it’s important to be able to practise speaking with others. If you use Duolingo, I’d love to hear if you also really enjoy it, as well as what language(s) you’re learning!

Use (and clean) my fountain pens more

I have a smallish collection of fountain pens that I haven’t really used much in the last year and I want to make better use of them. It’s a hobby that I’ve loved since being introduced to them by a friend many years ago and it’s a bit of a shame that I have all these pretty ink colours at home that I hardly ever use. Most of my fountain pens are entry-level to mid-range pens so I should really just use them and not be too precious with them. Plus, if I use them more, then I’m more likely to clean them regularly instead of leaving them to dry out and get all gross…

Daily brain training activity

I used to do sudokus (sometimes even samurai sudokus) or crosswords daily but it’s something that has really dropped off my habits in the last few years. I’ve been doing Wordles with my partner for the past week and it’s been lots of fun. I’m hoping to get back into doing more of these types of activities and puzzles on a daily basis… especially now that I’ve reached my cognitive peak and it’s all going downhill from here.

Drink more water

I’ve been told by my doctor that I should be drinking more fluids. So… I’ve been trying by buying new water bottles (memobottles) and doing other things. I think what has worked best for me so far is drinking water through a reusable bubble tea cup with the wide bubble tea straw. It’s going okay so far so I hope I can continue with increasing my fluid intake.

Travel…?

I mean… I probably shouldn’t even bother putting this one down.

I’d love to hear about what your 2022 goals are and whether we share any of the same goals or interests. Also, do you do monthly/weekly/daily goals?
