In case you missed my blast all over social media, I GOT ENGAGED ON OUR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

I’ve spent all day trying to write this post and don’t mind me guys, here I am just getting teary. I’ve never been a big marriage person, but after being with my partner for 10 years it’s been a long time coming. The truth is, I’m just overwhelmed with emotion! My name is going to change! We’re getting married! We’re going to have kids! These things weren’t ever things that I doubted, but it’s just those emotions of finally knowing it’s all going to happen soon.

Romeo (yup, that’s his real name) waited for the right moment too – while we were out celebrating at the Whitsunday Islands, which houses one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef. It was such a beautiful experience! It felt completely surreal, surrounded by gorgeous aquamarine ocean and views from every angle. I will never tire of the beautiful nature of the Islands and I recommend visiting it if you ever get the chance.

So on our 10 year anniversary, we went to Daydream Island, which we visited back in January 2012. It’s a beautiful Island Resort with lots of nature and wildlife (like kangaroos lounging around, and stingrays floating around the coral reef beds), and signature mermaid statues. It took us about 5 hours to get there through a flight, land transit and ferry (and we live in the same State) so we rested when we got to the hotel.

Went for a walk along the island and a hike up in the mountains to see the sunset! It was absolutely beautiful. We then had dinner at the fancy restaurant there called Mermaids, and then after dinner he took me to the beach. I could tell he was totally nervous, and there were these birds there screeching their heads off (of which he made a hilarious joke about, and we’ll remember this moment forever), but then he asked me to marry him! I was so excited, jumping up and down, and it was such a beautiful perfect moment of my life. We were so excited that it was all official!

The morning after, we went on a cruise to Hamilton Island, one of the major islands of the Whitsundays, in transit to the Great Barrier Reef. Here I was thinking it was going to be a relaxing cruise, but it was crowded and a rough and bumpy ride on the way to the reef. Lots of people got sea sick and had to go outside for some fresh air, and it was kind of hilarious seeing people walk back and forth and swinging across the ship.

Behold, the Great Barrier Reef! I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s definitely a sight to see. We had a buffet lunch on the ship and went snorkelling. The experience was nothing short of wondrous, swimming amongst the tropical and brightly coloured fish, seeing the whole sea teeming with life and different species of coral and marine life, watching a giant grouper fish swimming underwater. I just got such a great appreciation of how vast the ocean is and how little we are on the scheme of things. It was an amazing and humbling experience.

After going back to Mermaids for dinner, we went and took photos at the spot he proposed (seeing as we were too excited the night before to do so) and packed up to leave in the morning. It was a whirlwind trip, didn’t get much time to relax and enjoy the resort facilities, but it’s definitely a trip that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

Thank you so much everyone for all of your well wishes and congratulatory messages! Your support means so much to me.

Oh yeah, when’s the wedding? House first, then wedding planning 🙂 hopefully it will all happen next year! Fingers crossed!

Congratulations guys! 10 years is massive! You get less for murder these days. You really are perfect for one another. Both game geeks, love technology. Your table top games. It's like Sheldon and Amy finally tying the knot 😀

Ooh, so as soon as you walk don the aisle, I'm expecting a bun in the oven soon after Jeann. With both your genes, we'll have he or she making apps and programming before their out of nappies and we can make a fortune off them. Yes, I said WE, of course you'll give me a cut, you're super generous like that. You two can make an army of little tech minions and I'll rule the WOOOOORLD! I mean you, YOU'LL rule the world.
