In the last two list posts I posted, I’ve mentioned that I have a lot of unfinished series I need to catch up on. I seem to have a skill of reading the very first book in a series, and then sitting on the rest of the series for years. I’m not entirely sure why I do it (I think I like waiting until I can binge read a whole series at once?) but it’s a bit of a problem. It’s also dangerous because it means I’m at constant risk of stumbling across Major Spoilers.
In any case, I really need to stop this bad habit and catch up to all the series on my TBR. Here are the four series I need to continue.
Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab
Let’s start with a super popular fantasy series. I read this a year or two ago and fell in love with the world(s) and characters. It’s easy to see why everyone loves it so much. And yet here I am, not even having bought the rest of the series yet. And I have no excuses! I read ADSOM well after the final book of the trilogy came out. I’m a terrible bookworm.
The Gold Seer Trilogy by Rae Carson
The Gold Seer series is a pretty underrated trilogy. It’s a YA historical fantasy series. The first book, Walk on Earth a Stranger, came out when there was a small trend of YA Westerns being published. I am sad this was a trend that didn’t take off. It has a unique premise, and I was excited to see where the fantasy elements went in book two but it took me ages to buy the sequels. And since then I’ve just never gotten in the right mood for them.
The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare
I really enjoy the Shadowhunter world. The Infernal Devices are some of my favourite books (the historical element just makes the Shadowhunter stuff so much more interesting, in my opinion). The Shadowhunter books are also the ones I am most at risk of spoilers for. In fact, I think I might have already actually been spoiled for TDA? It really was stupid to put off Lord of Shadows and Queen of Air and Darkness for so long… I’m currently waiting for Alise (my old co-blogger from Readers in Wonderland) to catch up to TMI so we can buddy read this series, TID, and Chain of Gold together.
Ruined trilogy by Amy Tinterra
I bought Ruined years ago when it came out and really enjoyed it! It’s a good fantasy with a nice romance plot and a massive twist at the end!! I immediately bought the rest of the series when they came out (because they’re pretty) and then left them collecting dust. I’m actually about to start rereading Ruined as I’m writing this post, so maybe I’ll have at least one of these series finished by the time this post comes out. That would be nice.
Do you have any unfinished series being neglected on your TBR?
I read the Dark Artifices this year and omg
I wish I read before
I loved the first book! And I love most of the shadohunter books so I don’t know why I haven’t read them yet
You better finish The Dark Artifices and Ruined!!! haha I love them both so much! I mean you probably know what much I love my CC. But I also really enjoyed how the Ruined trio ended! I was really happy with it and I really need to start talking about it more. Thanks for the post.

TDA should be soon(ish) I hope! I’m waiting on Alise to finish TMI so we get onto TID reread and then Chain of Gold and TDA
Ruined has been sitting on my bedside table staring at me as I continue to read romances on my ereaders…
Woww the Ruined trilogy covers in Australia are much more brilliant than the US covers! I remember reading book 2 and feeling ehh about it – to be honest, I forgot it existed LOL.
Also omg I love Rae Carson’s books!! I don’t even remember most of the story of the Gold Seer trilogy other than the fact I really liked it. Hope you get to finish these, this year Bec!
Sometimes we get nice cover changes haha. I love illustrated covers a lot. Oh dear, second book syndrome sucks :/
Rae Carson is an author I keep wanting to read more of but just haven’t because I’m slack…. oops.
I’m terrible at finishing series, but honestly I’ve given up on finishing most of the ones that I haven’t finished by now. The only one that I still have an interest in completing is the Strange the Dreamer duology. But I’d have to reread the first book since it’s been a while, so we’ll see if that ends up happening!

I’m good, but I do tend to wait until they’re finished and I can binge.
I too haven’t read Muse of Nightmares yet… I also need to do a reread of the first book. Hopefully we get to it soon.
Shades of Magic and The Dark Artifices are a couple of my favorites. I’ve also read the first Gold Seer book which was great. I really need to continue it. Happy reading!
So many people love these books! I really hope I enjoy them as much as you do
