Jenna’s January-March Favourite Things

April 2, 2020 by Jenna | Chatterbox, Features

It’s a bit of a miserable time right now so I thought I would share my favourites from the months of January to March. Time has really flown by and it’s hard to think back to even a few weeks ago but upon doing some reflection, a lot of good things have happened to me in the past 3 months.

Winning a $900 painting

Most of my wardrobe is from the fashion brand, Gorman, and I won a painting worth $900 at one of their launches in February. I had been super excited about the Julia Flanagan x Gorman collaboration since they released the lookbook for the collection in January and, of course, went out to get my hands on as many pieces as I could as soon as they were released. There was a lucky door prize at the collection’s launch party and I won! What was even more exciting was the fact that I already owned a dress in the print that was inspired by the same painting!

There was an insane story attached to the win as well. It was incredibly hot the night of the launch party and I spent a good amount of time standing out on the street where it was a little cooler. My raffle ticket ended up falling out of my pocket (because I kept taking my phone out) and it blew down the street without me knowing. Julia Flanagan’s dad actually found it and returned it to me and then I won! It was an incredibly lucky evening for me.

Chain of Gold

I haven’t read a huge number of books so far this year but I’ve been keeping on track of my goal of 100 books this year. Chain of Gold has been by far my favourite read of 2020 so far. It’s so great being back at the London Institute and seeing all the characters from The Infernal Devices again. I have a full review of Chain of Gold up on the blog.

My plant shelf

One of my friends was upgrading her plant shelf earlier in the year and offered her old one to me for free. And of course I said yes. It’s definitely added to my living room space and has given me a little bit of shelf space to put some extra books.

I’m also loving some of the new plants that I’ve gotten this year. Because of where the shelf is placed, a lot of my recent buys have been succulents that can handle some full sun. I’ve got a cute bear’s paws (cotyledon tormentosa) in a bear pot, which is my absolute favourite. And I’ve also got some cute little girls with succulents as their hair. I’m really loving taking care of succulents because they’re so low-maintenance. As long as I remember to water them once in a while, they’re all okay.

Lots of baking

I got into baking last year when I finally got myself a Kitchenaid standmixer. I’ve started making a variety of things this year, including these passionfruit-filled melting moments (which I’ve made about 4 batches of in the last 4 weeks).

Animal Crossing

And of course my new obsession for the past 2 weeks has been Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Like all the other Animal Crossing games, it’s super addictive (but zen) and I’m enjoying putting together my deserted island and hanging out with my villagers. Poppy is one of my villagers and I’m so happy! I love her so much and she definitely mirrors my love of books and baking. I’m trying to collect all the possible plants in the game to decorate my house with and I managed to find the monstera in my Nook’s Cranny yesterday.

What have been your favourites for the first quarter of the year?!

I'm living for the aesthetic photos of this post, including your plant wall, the books, and your baking treats! I'm literally looking over at my own plants and they look so sad :(( Hope you're enjoying Animal Crossing, and miss you! Stay safe! <3

    • Aila! I miss you so much too!

Man, winning that $900 painting was such a wild story. I still can’t believe it. I waited around for over 2 hours that night and I almost left 5 times but something was keeping me there haha. How I just need to find somewhere to put it…

  2. What a great idea! Baking calms me down a lot (though I will get out of quarantine 10 kilos heavier) and your plant shelf looks great.
